One Piece Quest Fruit Chapter 4

Fish Dodo Leaps Ashore

Sunny introduced the basic situation regarding the Task Fruit and expressed its intentions—well, its goal of becoming the strongest strategist cat.

Eust understood that even a lazy fish dreams of turning over; it’s not unreasonable for a cat to want to become the strongest. If you don’t consider the fact that curious cats often get into trouble, the world is actually quite beautiful.

But as Eust’s partner, having dreams is a basic requirement, right? Eust would be the guardian of the cat’s smile, determined to be the King of Cat Care.

Eust asked Sunny, “Boss Sunny, what is the situation with task assignments? Will you notify me when there’s a task?”

Sunny replied, “Meow, I will notify you, stupid Eust, when a task is assigned. Just now, a very strange compulsory task was triggered, meow!”

“Meow, let me tell you the specific information about the task that was just assigned. Listen carefully, meow!”

“Meow, a Fish Dodo is stranded on the shore of this deserted island. Your task, stupid Eust, is to kill that Fish Dodo and roast its meat for me to eat. Not that I would admit the roasting part is part of the task, meow!”

“Meow, the task must be completed before the tide rises. After that, the stranded Fish Dodo will swim back to the sea. The reward for completing the task is a slight improvement in our physical condition and an increased chance of rescue from the deserted island. The punishment for failing the task is that I will lose my sense of taste for a week. My fish meat! Work hard, my subordinate, meow!”

Hearing the task from the Task Fruit, Eust knew his guess was correct. The Devil Fruit Sunny obtained could be a path for him to become stronger, an unusual golden finger.

Eust scanned the coastline but didn’t see any stranded Fish Dodo and asked Sunny, “Boss Sunny, where is the stranded Fish Dodo mentioned in the task? I can’t see it.”

Sunny gave him a disdainful look as if looking at an idiot, “Meow, stupid Eust, I told you it’s on this coastline. Even thinking logically, you should know the island has more than one stretch of coastline. Stupid Eust, meow!”

Feeling a bit defeated, Eust wondered if he was secretly an idiot but felt something was off.

After some thought, he realized he just hadn’t considered it fully. As the saying goes, even a wise man has a thousand thoughts but can still make a mistake. Yes, that’s it.

Eust and Sunny walked along the coastline and soon found the stranded Fish Dodo. The Fish Dodo was weakly flapping its fins in the shallow water, but its body wasn’t moving much.

The Fish Dodo’s structure was odd, unlike typical fish. It was shaped almost like a dumbbell, with a large head and tail and a small midsection.

The Fish Dodo was also quite large, about the size of two people, weighing at least one or two hundred kilograms. Eust doubted if he could move it.

Eust waded into the water to complete the task. Sunny, disliking water and having eaten the Devil Fruit, stayed far from the water, waving Eust off with bright eyes, revealing itself to be a foodie.

Approaching the Fish Dodo, Eust hesitated to strike with his wooden stick when the Fish Dodo suddenly spat water at his face, causing him to stumble and fall.

Sunny on the shore laughed heartily at Eust’s misfortune. Eust got up, rubbing his swollen cheek, realizing he couldn’t underestimate the stranded Fish Dodo.

Originally, Eust thought the Fish Dodo would only be fierce in the sea, not expecting it to have a “spit water” skill that hit hard and hurt.

Determined, Eust approached the Fish Dodo, wielding a thick wooden stick and aiming for its big mouth. Surprisingly, the Fish Dodo’s head was quite agile, dodging and occasionally using its “spit water” skill, making Eust’s situation awkward.

Finally, Eust sneaked around to attack the Fish Dodo’s tail, thinking the stranded fish couldn’t retaliate and would only take hits.

This reminded Eust of a story about Dodo that had made him laugh hard, remembering the three hobbies of penguins: eating, sleeping, and beating Dodo. He felt sorry for the penguin named Dodo.

Back to the present, Eust’s sneaky attack on the Fish Dodo’s tail seemed effective, but the Fish Dodo’s scales deflected most blows, showing exceptional defense. Blunt force attacks proved more effective than sharp weapons.

Realizing this, Eust redirected his attacks to the Fish Dodo’s head, aiming for a concussion. This made Sunny laugh uncontrollably from the shore, calling Eust a big idiot repeatedly.

Frustrated, Eust resolved to give the Fish Dodo a hard time. After all, it had embarrassed him twice, not knowing the terror of an angry man.

However, the Fish Dodo’s resilience exceeded Eust’s expectations. Despite continuous strikes, it took a long time to finally stop moving.

Eust, exhausted, returned to the shore to regain his strength before dealing with the Fish Dodo. Swinging the wooden stick for several minutes had been tiring, and he wanted to rest earlier but feared Sunny’s mockery. Now, his aching arms were a reminder of his struggle.

The physical condition of people in the pirate world was somewhat abnormal, and Eust realized the same applied to the fish. Fish Dodos weren’t supposed to be this resilient; did this one have some Sea King genes?

But one thing was certain: this Fish Dodo wasn’t an ordinary fish. If it hadn’t been stranded, it might have taken on ten Eusts in the sea.

Returning to the shore, Sunny couldn’t sit still and demanded roasted fish. Eust took the opportunity to ask about the task rewards.

“Boss Sunny, is the task considered complete now? How are the rewards given out?”

“Meow, what do you mean the task is complete? I haven’t eaten roasted fish yet. Hurry up, stupid Eust. I want to eat…”

As Sunny demanded fish, Eust felt a peculiar energy in his body. The soreness in his arms eased significantly.

Eust realized this was the power of the Task Fruit, rewarding the executor upon task completion.

It seemed Sunny, having just obtained the Devil Fruit’s power, couldn’t fully control it, and the task rewards were automatically distributed.

The improvement in Eust’s condition and Sunny’s sudden stop in speech were clear evidence.
