One Piece Quest Fruit Chapter 6

Post-Meal Fruit and the Strategist Cat**

After eating his fill, Sunny started grooming himself and didn’t want to move, while Eust, also full, needed to continue preparing the remaining fish.

There was still a lot of fish left, and if not processed, it would spoil quickly. A simple smoking process would preserve it for a long time.

Smoking the fish would also release smoke signals, potentially serving as a distress signal. However, for now, Eust focused on smoking the fish rather than building a dedicated smoke signal fire.

After some hard work, Eust finally completed the preliminary processing of the food, ensuring they had enough to last for the next few days.

As for making a raft to set out to sea, Eust had no intention of doing so. The dangers of the sea were not as simple as one might imagine.

Luffy could drift on the sea in a barrel at the beginning due to the protagonist’s halo. While Eust felt he might also have a protagonist’s halo, he wouldn’t recklessly venture out to sea unless absolutely necessary.

The method for making smoke signals and the materials needed for smoking fish were very similar, requiring branches and leaves with a certain level of moisture. These were easy to gather, and the incomplete combustion would produce black smoke.

After setting up the smoking process, Eust took the impatient Sunny into the jungle.

Sunny kept yelling for water, so Eust told him about the spring in the jungle but insisted on finishing their tasks first. This displeased Sunny, who wrinkled his face in annoyance.

The spring among the jungle rocks provided the fresh water they needed. After eating roast fish and working by the fire, drinking the spring water was refreshing.

Eust didn’t let Sunny go alone to prevent him from eating something strange. While Eust had some confidence in Sunny’s unique digestive system, it was still better to avoid unnecessary risks.

They left the small box and the smoking fish by the shore, as there were no dangerous animals on the island. The jewelry in the box was also their initial capital, needed once they re-entered human society.

Eust and Sunny quickly reached the spring. Sunny, small enough to stand nimbly on Eust’s shoulder, weighed only about two pounds.

Sunny explained that the food he ate was stored in his stomach. Though Eust didn’t understand, he couldn’t argue with a shape-shifting cat. If Sunny could transform, having a unique stomach was probably normal.

After drinking from the spring, Eust remembered the fruit trees in the jungle, which he had forgotten about due to Sunny’s demands for water.

Eust told Sunny about the fruit trees, only to be met with disdain. Sunny’s look of contempt was something Eust wouldn’t forget.

Eust felt aggrieved, thinking he wouldn’t have forgotten the fruit if Sunny had asked for it instead of water.

After confirming that Sunny could eat the fruit, Eust carefully washed it and offered it to him, finally avoiding Sunny’s disdainful gaze.

Cat owners should note that not all fruits are safe for cats. Some fruits harmless to humans can harm a cat’s bodily functions. Never feed your cat random fruits just because it looks pitiful.

As for Sunny, Eust’s worries were unfounded. Sunny explained his special ability to sense dangerous food, which he didn’t use for the Devil Fruit because the danger sense didn’t activate.

“Meow, I can sense dangerous food. I didn’t sense danger with the Devil Fruit, so I ate it. You’re making a fuss over nothing, stupid Eust, meow!”

“Sunny, if you don’t tell me about your special abilities, how would I know? And stop looking at me like I’m an idiot. Who prepared the food and washed the fruit for you? Me,” Eust retorted.

Sunny’s ability to sense dangerous food was something Eust envied. With such an ability, anyone from his homeland would never worry about poisoning while eating.

But knowing Sunny had this ability meant Eust didn’t need to worry about poisoning either. Sunny’s ability would serve them both.

Thinking about this, Eust petted Sunny’s head, earning an annoyed glare in return.

Sunny ate fruit much slower than fish, which made Eust wonder if it was due to being full or just the way it was.

Seeing Sunny’s displeased look, Eust asked about it.

“Meow, stupid Eust, I’m enjoying my post-meal fruit slowly. You have no sense of taste, meow!”

Eust took a few bites of the fruit. It tasted quite good. With three black lines appearing on his forehead, he silently chanted, “I’m not an idiot, not an idiot, not an idiot.”

Having searched most of the island, Eust and Sunny left the jungle, taking some washed fruit with them.

Observing the Beastly Roar Birds hunting, Eust noticed they were insect hunters. These birds consumed all types of insects, big and small, making them the nemesis of bugs.

By the time Eust and Sunny left the jungle, it was getting dark. With no suitable place to rest on the island and insufficient time to build a shelter, Eust decided to spend the night by the fire. As long as it didn’t rain or get windy, they’d be fine.

There hadn’t been enough time to build a shelter today. Eust had woken up in the late afternoon, and exploring the island, completing tasks, and smoking fish had taken up most of the day.

From what little knowledge Eust had about the weather, he deduced that the next few days would be clear. The climate in East Blue wasn’t as unpredictable as in the Grand Line, so there was no need to build a shelter in the dark.

Returning to the fire, Eust and Sunny sat upwind and started chatting, mainly about Eust trying to learn more about Sunny.

Eust learned that the strategist cats came from a small world attached to the pirate world but relatively independent.

Strategist cats had unique abilities, with Sunny possessing a danger sense that included detecting dangerous food. This ability would grow stronger as Sunny matured, making Eust envious.

Adult strategist cats desiring to live in the pirate world could do so, but if a strategist cat or their chosen human died, their journey in the pirate world would end.

Not every strategist cat yearned for the pirate world’s excitement. Some were engrossed in strategic games and didn’t want to engage in real conflicts.

The strategist cat population was already very limited. Considering those lost to games, the young ones, and the few who returned, there were very few strategist cats in the pirate world.

There were fewer strategist cats than Devil Fruit users, especially those who wished to live in the pirate world. Some preferred staying on an island, doing nothing, which Sunny found despicable.

Due to these circumstances, Sunny wasn’t sure if they would encounter another strategist cat.

Sunny didn’t know why he arrived early in the pirate world and met Eust. He said it was due to some great power.
