Eust and Sunny were stranded on a deserted island. On the first day, Eust woke up late and spent most of his time catching, killing, roasting, eating, and smoking fish—essentially, he was preoccupied with fish-related activities.
The second day started with Sunny waking Eust at dawn because Sunny was hungry. After eating a piece of smoked fish, Sunny didn’t want any more and wanted something fresh.
Eust had no choice. Sunny hadn’t mentioned disliking smoked fish the day before. The smoked fish Eust prepared to save food now seemed to be something he’d have to consume himself.
After getting up, Eust comforted Sunny, telling him to wait. He went to the spring to freshen up and washed some fruit for himself and Sunny to eat as a light snack.
Having a picky companion made survival on the island more challenging. Eust had thought the fish would be a long-term food supply, but Sunny’s dislike of smoked fish threw a wrench in his plans.
With Sunny’s complaints in mind, Eust added firewood and placed three pieces of smoked fish for his breakfast. He realized he had become quite the foodie, needing more food than he remembered.
Eust asked about Sunny’s appetite and was relieved to learn that Sunny’s breakfast needs weren’t as terrifying as the previous day’s.
Sunny explained that the previous day’s large appetite was due to an energy replenishment. In normal circumstances, Sunny’s food intake was significantly less than the day before but still more than a typical cat.
With Sunny’s food needs less than his own, Eust felt relieved, knowing he wouldn’t have to starve Sunny.
Eust focused on catching fish in the ocean, a common food source. With his impressive fishing skills, Eust quickly caught four dumbhead fish by the shore.
Dumbhead fish were named for their low intelligence and poor danger awareness, making them easy to catch. Though not large, they survived through sheer numbers. The four fish were enough for Sunny, so Eust began preparing them.
Eust also considered that his next companion should be a cook, benefiting both him and Sunny. Although he didn’t mind handling food, training to improve his strength was also important for his adventures and treasure hunts.
After preparing and roasting the dumbhead fish for Sunny, Eust ate his smoked fish from the day before. The smoked fish was quite good, so he wondered why Sunny didn’t like it, given his preference for roasted fish.
After breakfast, Sunny was much happier and shared some good news with Eust.
Sunny had become more familiar with the Task Fruit’s abilities and could now influence the assignment of simple tasks. He could control whether to issue compulsory tasks, a significant improvement. Although compulsory tasks offered greater rewards, Eust disliked uncontrollable factors.
Sunny wanted to discuss the development direction of his fruit abilities. The Task Fruit had two potential development paths, and once chosen, the direction couldn’t be changed for a while.
This restriction seemed unique to the Task Fruit, as Eust had never heard of such a rule. Additionally, Sunny’s ability development was tied to task assignments, adding to their uniqueness.
The Task Fruit’s current development paths corresponded to training tasks and hunting tasks, enhancing the rewards for completed tasks.
Sunny needed to choose between boosting rewards for training tasks or hunting tasks.
“Meow, with my wisdom, I favor the training task reward boost. Considering your current weak strength, Eust, it’s best to quickly improve our power, meow!”
Although Sunny called Eust weak, Sunny’s assessment was accurate and suited their current situation. Eust agreed with Sunny’s choice for the fruit ability development direction.
Eust added, “Sunny, I agree with your choice. But don’t forget who prepared your roast fish. How could you insult the cook after eating, calling me an idiot?”
Sunny immediately apologized, “Meow, Eust, don’t mind it. It was just a slip of the tongue. Eust is the best, not an idiot, just a bit weak, meow!”
Eust felt the sting of Sunny’s words, even though Sunny stopped calling him an idiot, now focusing on his strength.
“Sunny, your sharp tongue could get you into trouble with others. I can’t guarantee you won’t get hurt.”
“Meow, Eust, did you forget? I don’t speak to humans I don’t recognize. I only acknowledge you, Eust. I won’t talk in front of others, meow!”
“Sigh, am I really an idiot?” Eust wondered.
After their banter, Eust started his work for the day, setting up a shelter and a smoke signal fire.
He planned to set up the shelter by the shore for easy observation of passing ships. The island was small, so fetching fresh water wouldn’t be a problem.
Food sources included fish and shellfish from the sea, as well as some fruits and potentially the Beastly Roar Birds on the island.
Eust decided to wait for the rescue. If no ships passed by for a long time, he’d consider building a raft, though this option was risky.
A navigator was another crucial companion. With his limited sailing skills and Sunny’s lack of navigation knowledge, they needed an expert.
Strength training was also essential for making dreams a reality. Eust planned to start with basic physical training and seek more advanced methods once off the island, including swordsmanship.
Eust invited Sunny to train with him. Although Sunny’s training seemed to focus on agility, Eust respected the strategist cat’s unique methods.
Sunny explained, “Meow, the strategist cat clan has special training methods, focusing on agility and secondary strength. It’s not suitable for foolish humans. Don’t try to copy it, or you’ll hurt yourself, meow!”
“Sigh, I was just curious. I have no intention of copying it. I just want to know more about you, Sunny. Look at my sincere eyes.”
Sunny gave Eust a disdainful look, and so began their journey to becoming stronger.
