“Tony Stark’s tabloid news is almost a daily occurrence. You write, and others write; where’s the competitiveness?
On my way here, I saw many people holding newspapers, all reporting on last night’s event. You should ask your subordinates to see how the sales of your fifth edition are doing so far.”
Seeing J. Jonah Jameson’s reluctance, Stephen Hawking patiently explained.
J. Jonah Jameson was someone he valued highly. Establishing the Daily Bugle and developing it to this extent took some skill.
J. Jonah Jameson’s professional ethics weren’t high, and his news reporting could have been more truthful, as seen from his various campaigns against Spider-Man.
But what he valued was precisely this point. He didn’t need someone whose moral standards were too high, the kind that only pursued the truth in the news.
Because the news the Daily Bugle would release in the future couldn’t always be trustworthy, when necessary, various false exaggerations were indispensable.
“Check the sales of the fifth edition for me up to now.”
After listening, J. Jonah Jameson skeptically picked up the phone and called his secretary outside the office.
Moments later, the secretary reported back on the phone:
“Boss, the fifth edition is sold out by now.”
“Sold out?”
J. Jonah Jameson was stunned for a moment, then immediately jumped up from his chair and roared into the phone:
“Quick… get Eddie to my office. Tomorrow’s front page, the armored man, I want photos of that armored man!”
In his eyes, nothing was more important than sales as long as the sales were good, not to mention the armored man. Even a masked man would do.
Soon, a young reporter with a camera hanging around his neck rushed in.
“Eddie, write me an article about that armored man, and I don’t care how you do it, whether you pay or pull strings. Just get me some photos of that guy.”
Seeing Eddie, the Daily Bugle’s best reporter, J. Jonah Jameson immediately got up and gave orders.
At this moment, he had utterly forgotten about Stephen Hawking’s presence.
“Boss, should I write it positively or negatively?”
Eddie asked.
J. Jonah Jameson glared:
“Of course, negatively, negative articles are more attractive. You still need to ask me about this.
Just write that the armored man showed up and possibly was in cahoots with those bank robbers. They fought over the loot and ran away when they saw the police coming.
Yes, just like that, polish up the details.”
“Yes, boss!”
Eddie wasn’t surprised at all, immediately nodding his head. He knew his boss’s personality best, just asking to be safe.
Just as he was about to turn around, he was stopped by a voice.
“No, you can’t write it like that. I want you to write it all positively.”
Turning his head, the strange young man sitting opposite the boss had been silent all this time.
“Who are you?”
“I’m your boss’s boss, and if you don’t listen to me, by this time tomorrow, you’ll be part of the unemployed.”
Stephen Hawking stood up and smiled.
Eddie immediately turned to look at his boss, J. Jonah Jameson, whose mouth twitched:
“Do as he says?”
“I’ll tell you how to write tomorrow’s news headlines like this:
Shocking, a deity descends to save humanity!
Terrifying, someone can catch bullets with their bare hands!
Incredible, a cloud capable of carrying people seen flying in the Bronx!
And then glorify Iron Man to death in the content. You can even write him as a god to make everyone feel he is a trustworthy superhero.”
After finishing, Stephen Hawking took a stack of staged photos from his pocket and threw them on the table.
“These are Iron Man’s photos. Use whichever you think is appropriate.”
“You missed your calling as a journalist!”
J. Jonah Jameson picked up the photos on the table, looking at Stephen Hawking with admiration, feeling like he had met a kindred spirit.
Without mentioning “Iron Man” by name, those three news headlines highlighted all the key points. Just one glance makes you want to click in to see what’s going on immediately; it’s brilliant!
He decided that the headlines of the Daily Bugle would all adopt this format.
After spending a while in the Daily Bugle news building and finalizing the headline for tomorrow’s paper, Hawkins rode his motorcycle toward Queens.
Besides some young people, everyone still prefers to read the news in newspapers, so the role of the Daily Bugle is still significant.
“Just now, that Eddie, I wonder if he’s the host for Venom.”
While riding the motorcycle, Hawkins suddenly remembered that Venom’s symbiote host was Eddie, a journalist.
However, he doesn’t take it to heart because even if it were true, he is a lowly reporter, and superheroes like Venom are relatively more straightforward to recruit.
“Midtown High School, let’s check out this place first.”
Speeding along, Hawkins finally found the famous Midtown High School in Queens.
Finding Peter Parker in such a prominent place as Queens is challenging, but finding a well-known public high school is much simpler.
At least in his memory, most of the universe’s Spider-Men should have attended Midtown High School.
If not in this universe, then it doesn’t matter. At worst, he could make an excuse and have Professor X help find him with a Cerebro.
“Hey, handsome, which class are you in? Let’s get acquainted, I’m Lily!”
Hawkins had just parked his motorcycle and hadn’t even reached the academic building when a hot blonde girl proactively stopped him.
Midtown High School is a city public high school, not a noble school, nor an expensive private school, without any elite education. The whole school’s atmosphere is relatively loose, so naturally, students are of all sorts.
Besides a few with good grades, most are just playing, dating, and rebelling, and they may start to work hard once they get to college.
Hawkins’s nearly perfect body, paired with a black jacket and riding a domineering Harley motorcycle, naturally seemed very attractive to girls of this age.
“Foreign girls are straightforward.”
Hawkins was stunned for a moment, then smiled and replied:
“Little sister, I’m not from your school. Can I ask if you know a student named Peter Parker?”
“Little… sister?”
The blonde girl raised her eyebrows at the words and deliberately puffed up her chest:
“You don’t look much older, and you’re calling me little?”
“Oh… I didn’t mean anything else; obviously, you’re a big beauty. I just meant that I’m a few years older than you.”
Seeing this, Hawkins immediately explained with a smile.
He knew that rebellious girls hated being treated as children the most.
Sure enough, the blonde girl’s face looked much better after hearing this:
“That’s more like it. The school does have a nerd named Peter Parker, but I don’t know if he’s the one you’re looking for.”
