One Piece Space Fruit Chapter 18

Inescapable Predicament

Impel Down, the world’s greatest prison.

It was known as the “Impenetrable Fortress.”

For pirates, there was no place more feared. Once inside, one might never leave again.

Impel Down, also known as the “Underwater Prison,” had six levels: the First Level, Crimson Hell; the Second Level, Beast Hell; the Third Level, Starvation Hell; the Fourth Level, Blazing Hell; the Fifth Level, Freezing Hell; and the Sixth Level, Eternal Hell (a level known to very few).

Prisoners were placed in these levels based on their strength and the threat they posed to the world.

The final Sixth Level held those of extreme significance, containing either death row inmates or those sentenced to life imprisonment—monstrous criminals erased from history.

At this moment, in the Sixth Level, Eternal Hell.

“Clack, clack, clack…”

Footsteps echoed in the dark corridors of the prison as several marines carried a bloodied prisoner inside, drawing the sharp eyes of the inmates in each cell.

“Hey, hey, hey! Who’s the unlucky one this time?”

“Let me see… a kid? Are you kidding me? When did Eternal Hell start admitting children? Don’t tell me this kid has a bounty in the billions!”

“He looks pretty messed up, his body is wrecked. Not sure if he’s even alive. If they put him in my cell, I’d make sure to take good care of him, hahaha!”

“Yeah, right! Kibanou, you’d probably kill him.”

They jeered and taunted, finding amusement in the situation.

The passing marines were visibly afraid, even of these imprisoned criminals.

Despite being chained or restrained with Seastone, these prisoners were in the Sixth Level for a reason—they were monsters who had once been invincible on the seas.

They had killed countless people, their hands soaked in blood, and their sheer presence was enough to instil fear and oppression.

Most new marine soldiers walked in but had to be carried out, legs trembling with fear.

The marines quickly locked the prisoner in a separate cell and hurriedly left, not daring to linger in such a stifling environment.

“They put him in that cell…”

“A private cell, what a lucky kid.”

“Hey! Kid, if you’re not dead, say something!”

The cell was shrouded in thick shadows, and the prisoner lay motionless, seemingly dead.

“Did he really die? I wanted to ask him about the latest news from the sea.”

“Ugh, how boring!”

The prisoners grumbled a bit before quieting down to sleep, and Eternal Hell returned to its usual dead silence.

After an unknown amount of time, Evan awoke. The intense pain in his body made him gasp for breath, his entire body convulsing as he almost passed out again. He was drenched in sweat, veins bulging.

His bones felt like they were shattered, devoid of any strength.

Evan propped himself up on the cold floor, trying to support his body.

He struggled to lift his head, opening his eyes to survey his surroundings. The light was dim, but he could make out the shape of a cell.

The floor was icy cold, making him shiver continuously. As he struggled to rise, he heard the clinking of chains, realizing his feet were shackled.

A prison?

Evan thought for a moment, then called out tentatively, “Is anyone there?”

His voice echoed in the silent, dark prison, triggering a series of responses.

“Oh? The kid’s awake?”

“I thought he was dead. Kid, what did you do to end up here?”

Chaotic voices mingled together, but none provided any useful information.

Evan frowned slightly, ignoring them as he continued to ask, “Where am I?”

“You don’t even know why you were captured? What a pathetic kid. I thought you caused some big trouble.”

“This is Impel Down, the Sixth Level, Eternal Hell!”

Impel Down, Eternal Hell?

Evan wasn’t surprised to be captured and imprisoned by the Marines, but he hadn’t expected to be placed in the Sixth Level, Eternal Hell…

The Marines sure thought highly of him.

“I wonder if Sakazuki is dead…” Evan muttered.

Though his voice was low, the surrounding prisoners heard it, and their reactions were immediate.

“Kid, did you kill a marine named Sakazuki?”

“Sakazuki? I’ve heard of him; he’s a tough one.”

“There’s no way a kid like you could kill him. You were probably captured by him.”

“Sakazuki always talks about justice, but he’s killed more people than me!”

The prisoners argued, some questioning and some mocking, while Evan fell silent.

After Ohara, it was Eternal Hell, huh? Living freely under the blue sky was proving to be an incredibly difficult task.

Evan felt a sense of oppression, but he quickly let it go.

Though he was in Eternal Hell, it was better than dying on Ohara. Once dead, everything is lost.

As long as he was alive, there was a chance to escape!

“The most important thing now is to recover my body.”

Evan examined his condition. The dim light made it hard to see, so he used his hands to feel and assess his injuries.

The more he checked, the more bitter his smile became.

His injuries were worse than he imagined!

Aside from external wounds, his right side had been pierced by Sakazuki’s magma fist, damaging his internal organs. Additionally, cold and heat wreaked havoc inside him, preventing his natural healing.

His vitality was drained, and combined with the backlash from using “ROOM: Spatial Exile” and “ROOM: Spatial Obliteration,” his body was utterly wrecked.

He was practically a cripple, barely hanging on to life.

“The situation is dire.”

Evan felt helpless. Even if he managed to remove the Seastone shackles suppressing his Devil Fruit powers, his weakened body wouldn’t allow him to use his spatial abilities.

Right now, without his abilities, he was no different from an ordinary person.

Evan kept thinking of solutions, but his body was too weak. Drowsiness overcame him, and he passed out again.

In Eternal Hell, time seemed to stand still.

It might have been a second, a minute, or an hour.

At some point, the sound of a tray hitting the floor woke Evan. He opened his bleary eyes to see a plate of meat and water by the cell door.

Evan crawled forward, stuffing the meat into his mouth, and swallowing without chewing.

The warm food filled his empty stomach, easing his hunger.

Sea King’s meat? The taste was mediocre, but it was nutritious.

Evan licked his cracked lips and drank the water.

Unfortunately, the portions were just enough to keep him alive, not enough to help him heal.

Evan leaned against the cold, solid wall, closing his eyes again.

It was a deadlock—severely injured and weakened by Seastone, with no way to escape.

For the next few days, Evan, like the other prisoners, ate and slept, conserving his energy.

But Evan soon realized that he would be stuck here indefinitely without a breakthrough.

With his current state, no abilities, and severe injuries, how could he escape?

Evan didn’t give up, constantly recalling memories of the One Piece world, seeking any opportunity.

He noticed that he was forgetting more about his previous world, needing longer to remember fragmented pieces.

In the original story, Impel Down had two major events: Shiki’s escape and Luffy’s prison break.

Unfortunately, he learned from other inmates that Shiki had escaped months ago. Coincidentally, Evan was now in the cell Shiki had occupied.

Shiki had killed his cellmate, leaving the cell empty for Evan.

Evan was shocked to learn this, not expecting to be in Shiki’s cell, making them cellmates in a way.

With no hope from Shiki, he could only wait for Luffy’s break-in twenty years later.

Evan’s eyes dimmed. He was confident in his will but wasn’t sure he could survive such a long time.

But he was powerless, left to wait.

Wait for a chance to escape this predicament.

He refused to believe fate would abandon him entirely.
