Daily Life in One Piece Chapter 34

The Six Powers

The entire plan chart had Mosen’s schedule packed. Each task had a set duration and required a rest period after completion. It even details daily nutritional intake and balance.

It was the same recruit camp mess hall, but Mosen’s meals were more meticulously balanced than the other soldiers.

Mosen couldn’t help but marvel at the Navy headquarters’ recruit camp. It pooled the Navy’s best resources and soldiers, and just looking at the plan sheet showed how remarkable its foundation was.

This proved that his choice was correct.

It didn’t matter to Mosen if he was a pirate or a marine. As a pirate, he’d wander the world like Mihawk, becoming a Shichibukai. As a marine, he’d receive better training without much hassle, which was a win-win situation.

“Hey, brat, what are you still standing there for? Get your ass to the training field. You’ve already made history by getting confined for three days right after joining the recruit camp.”

Mosen decided to take back his appreciation. You couldn’t talk nicely to someone with such a temper.

“I got confined because you confined me. If I made history, half the credit goes to you.”

Bring it on; it is mutual harm. I don’t have Haki yet, so I’ll lay low, but who’s afraid of a war of words?

“You little brat, stop right there!” Shuzo’s roar followed as Mosen dashed out of the office.

You must be kidding. Why wait to get beaten up?

Mosen began his structured training without resorting to his previous habit of sleeping only five hours a day.

More importantly, as his internal injuries cleared up, he gained better control over his body, feeling direct feedback from his physique. Before, he could control his body, but sometimes it felt unnatural.

This complete control over his body was as intoxicating as getting more robust, even more satisfying than a specific indescribable slow-motion activity involving his left hand.

With the nutritional balance provided by the recruit camp, Mosen’s body grew continuously. Not only did his height and weight increase, but his strength, agility, nerve reaction speed, bone density, muscle and skin resilience, and even his Devil Fruit ability were all improving.

Three months later, Mosen had grown to 188 cm. Under the medical team’s care, all the hidden injuries from overtraining were eliminated.

At that moment, Mosen felt a significant change in his Kenbunshoku Haki, or perhaps it was just his imagination.

Outside the medical room, Mosen encountered the burly chief instructor, Zeff.

“Well done, kid. It’s impressive how much you’ve improved in just three months of basic training,” Zeff said, his eyes gleaming.

Zeff’s perception was precise, having honed both Kenbunshoku and Busoshoku Haki to advanced levels. Outsiders called him ‘Black Arm’ Zeff due to his formidable Busoshoku Haki, but as a pure martial artist and former Marine Admiral, his Kenbunshoku Haki was also top-notch.

Mosen had not seen much of Zeff or the other recruits during these three months. Once practical combat training began, the recruit camp was no longer as it had been when Mosen first arrived.

The recruit camp mainly consisted of recruits. Those like Mosen, who entered based on military achievements, were rare. In these three months, the recruits who had seen bloodshed began to show a noticeable change in their demeanour.

“Hello, instructor!” Mosen saluted promptly, appreciating the customised training plan Zeff had designed for him. Despite the initial beating, Mosen felt it was worth it—though he certainly didn’t want to go through it again.

“If you don’t mind, you can call me ‘teacher’ like Shuzo. I will be teaching you Rokushiki and Busoshoku Haki from now on.”

At this point, Zeff hadn’t experienced the events leading to his downfall. He was still the kind and committed former Marine Admiral. Despite his stern tone…

Who cared about the tone? Mosen had joined the recruit camp to learn from Zeff. There was no reason to refuse.

“Yes, teacher!”

“Don’t get too excited yet. My training is very rigorous. Now that your internal injuries are healed, the upcoming training will be much more intense than before.”

“Don’t worry, teacher. Compared to fighting hard, I’m not boasting, but in this room, everyone else is just a younger brother.”

“What does that mean?”

Mosen was dumbfounded. How do I explain this? Especially when Zeff asked so seriously, suddenly making him seem cute.

“Never mind the details. Can I start learning Rokushiki now?”

Zeff was okay with Mosen changing the topic and motioned for him to follow. There was a better place for teaching.

Leading Mosen to an empty training room, Zeff began the lesson.

“I won’t go into the principles of Rokushiki. You’ve probably learned a lot about them these three months. I commend you for not rushing to practice Rokushiki prematurely.”

“Why do we only start teaching Rokushiki in the recruit camp and not in the Navy Academy?”

“You’ve probably realized by now that Rokushiki, as a body technique that surpasses human limits, puts a huge strain on the body. It’s like comparing walls of wood, stone, and iron of the same thickness—it’s obvious which can withstand more hits.”

“So, the body is the foundation for Rokushiki. If you had mastered Rokushiki in the East Blue, the damage to your body would be far worse than what we can repair in three months.”

Pausing, Zeff fixed his gaze on Mosen and asked, “Have you decided which Rokushiki techniques you want to learn?”

Mosen had thought about this since acquiring the Sube Sube no Mi, and now he had a clear idea.

He answered without hesitation.

“Teacher, I want to learn Soru, Geppo, and Kami-e!”

Zeff, unfazed, looked at Mosen and asked further.

“Why these choices?”

“A senior once told me while developing Kenbunshoku Haki that the most important thing is to choose what suits you best. I already have the Sube Sube no Mi, so Tekkai is useless to me. Similarly, with my swordsmanship, Rankyaku and Shigan would only distract me and waste my time. Soru is foundational; mastering it makes Geppo easier to learn, and Geppo will make my attacks more flexible, allowing me to strike from the air. Kami-e will make my Devil Fruit ability more versatile, offering more development options.”

P was pleased with Mosen’s reasoning, and Zeff laughed. “Since Kuzan, few of my students have understood themselves so well. Hahaha, Mosen, with such self-awareness at your age, you’re bound to surpass Kuzan in the future.”

“Now, let’s start with Soru!”
