In Nick Fury’s office at S.H.I.E.L.D.
“Director, the vampire situation has spiraled out of control. We have confirmed intel that they have abducted around 4,000 women and children.” Coulson reported, his eyes wide with anger, his face twisted with rage.
“I understand. I have already sent people to handle the vampire issue covertly. Until the U.S. government asks for our intervention, we have no reason to get involved. I suspect the government will cover up this massive kidnapping, considering the number of cowardly officials in power.” Fury said, a touch of helplessness in his voice. The vampires had signed a peace treaty with the U.S. government. Without solid evidence of a world-threatening plot, there wasn’t much Fury could do to intervene.
“And about that swordmaster Yasuo—he was involved in this incident. Numerous witnesses reported seeing a red-clad eccentric chasing a truck for three blocks, leading to the mansion where the subsequent explosions occurred.” Coulson added.
“He was involved too?” Fury covered his face with his hands, contemplating for a while before speaking. “Let him be. As long as he doesn’t engage in anti-human activities that endanger civilians, we don’t need to monitor his every move. Where possible, offer him some support regarding the vampire issue.” Fury’s one eye bore into Coulson. “Remember, keep his matter confidential. Don’t let me down, Coulson.”
“Yes, sir.” Coulson promised.
After Coulson left, Fury stood alone in his office, staring out of the floor-to-ceiling windows. He pulled out a phone and made a call.
“Hey, it’s me. Good job rescuing so many civilians. Yes, I know there are other storage sites. That wind swordmaster was likely a coincidence, but he can be trusted. If you need help, you can rely on him. Rest assured, I’ll keep you informed.” Fury hung up, gazing out into the New York night, analyzing the situation.
Blade and Wind Swordmaster Yasuo should handle the vampire problem well. Fury hoped everything would proceed as planned.
Yes, it was Fury who had provided Blade with the intel. Fury had known Blade since the war days, and they had established a private network. Fury provided vampire intel, and Blade took care of them, keeping Fury’s involvement hidden.
(Comics reveal that Blade and Wolverine were part of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Howling Commandos, linking them to Fury early on.)
Alexander Pierce, a middle-aged white man with a perpetually wise (or cunning) look, was the top officer of HYDRA’s infiltration within S.H.I.E.L.D. He served as S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Secretary, liaising with the World Security Council and holding level ten clearance.
Recently, Pierce took an interest in a young Asian man named Yasuo. A special superhuman? After hearing about Yasuo, Pierce privately investigated him. An orphan with incredible abilities, capable of destruction akin to a mutant, but most importantly, he was controllable.
The sound of knocking interrupted his thoughts.
Jasper Sitwell, a bald middle-aged man with glasses, entered. Publicly a level six S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, he was Pierce’s trusted HYDRA operative, handling recruitment and turning S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to HYDRA.
Seeing Sitwell, Pierce maintained his composure. “Agent, do you have a report for me?”
Sitwell quietly closed the door, signaling private HYDRA business rather than official S.H.I.E.L.D. matters.
Adjusting his glasses, Sitwell spoke softly, “Mr. Secretary, the World Security Council wants to know more about your recent funding request.”
Pierce nodded in satisfaction. “I see. Inform them I will submit a detailed funding plan tomorrow.”
Smoke screen deployed, Sitwell approached Pierce and whispered, “Sir, I have intel on the Asian youth Yasuo you asked me to monitor. He went out today, killed some vampires, and rescued about a thousand civilians. Our experts confirm his destructive capability. We can proceed with the next step if you wish.”
Pierce smiled approvingly. “Confirmed? Excellent. But hold off on the next step for now. It’s a sensitive period. Be ready for my command. We need to wash his brain clean and turn him into another asset.”
HYDRA was essentially a parasite within S.H.I.E.L.D., thriving as S.H.I.E.L.D. grew stronger. Pierce aimed to cultivate HYDRA into something surpassing its past glory. He planned to subtly influence Fury into recruiting Yasuo into S.H.I.E.L.D. before HYDRA made their move, ensuring they gained another powerful pawn.
While S.H.I.E.L.D. churned with hidden turmoil, Yasuo, unaware of the attention from both S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA, pondered over the source of his gold coins. Why did killing vampires earn him coins but not gang members?
Perhaps the system considered vampires as equivalent to minions in the game, while gang members were just regular humans?
If so, then the equivalent of the cannon minion would be a higher-ranked vampire like Deacon Frost.
Yasuo decided the vampires were now his target. They harmed innocents and provided gold coins—a perfect alignment with his pursuit of justice.
Deacon Frost, at his new hideout, addressed the NYPD Chief, “I need those pigs. Use any means necessary to deliver them to the new warehouse.”
“Sir, it’s impossible. Too many witnesses, including American citizens who have returned home. The government is taking this seriously. Although there are attempts to suppress it, they won’t let me handle it freely.” The police chief wiped sweat from his face, speaking cautiously.
“I don’t care how. If you succeed, you’ll gain my friendship and become my direct descendant with eternal life. And about that intruder, any leads?” Frost inquired, his tone icy.
“My subordinates are investigating. We should have news soon.” The police chief responded softly.
“Daywalker, you’ve teamed up with humans? If you weren’t useful, I’d…” Frost mused before asking another question.
A subordinate promptly reported, “We’ve found it. The hired mercenaries are escorting the item back to New York. You’ll have it in a few days, sir.”
