I Am Merus, Trainee Angel and Marcarita’s Younger Brother (Part 1)
…
“Whoosh!”
The four of them appeared in the starry sky.
“Hmph, I always knew the food on that planet wasn’t great, so there was no need to keep it,” Sidra said with a grin.
“You destroyed the whole planet just like that?” Broly asked, turning his head in surprise.
“As a God of Destruction, it’s our duty to destroy useless planets. It’s part of our responsibility, our job,” Sidra explained casually.
Broly nodded, signaling that he understood.
Majin Buu, however, scratched his head, looking utterly confused.
What exactly defines a “useless” planet?
Can you explain it better?
“But Broly, the 18th Universe, where you’re from, only has one white planet for now, so there’s no need for you to work just yet,” Sidra continued with a smile. “Actually, what Universe 18 needs most right now is a Supreme Kai, the god of creation. The Supreme Kai is responsible for creating planets and life.”
“I’ve met one before,” Broly responded.
“You’ve probably met a Supreme Kai from another universe,” Sidra chuckled. “One day, Universe 18 will have its own Supreme Kai. Once that happens, your life force will be bound together.”
Broly scratched his head, looking thoughtful.
“That’s right, your lives will be connected—if one dies, so does the other,” Sidra added with a knowing smile.
“Ren already told me,” Broly nodded.
“Let’s head to another planet and see if the food is better there,” Sidra suggested, signaling for them to follow.
Broly and Majin Buu, like two naive newcomers, readily agreed.
Whatever you say, the last planet’s food wasn’t good anyway.
“Whoosh!”
The four of them sped off toward another planet.

Seventh Universe, Galactic Patrol Headquarters
Inside Tights’ room.
Tights sat at her desk, typing away on her laptop, deeply focused on her writing.
After finishing her latest chapter, she attempted to upload it to her novel’s platform…
Only to be greeted by the sight of a spinning loading icon on the screen.
“The internet is acting up again…” Tights sighed, frustrated. “What can I do? This is Galactic Patrol Headquarters, far from Earth, so the signal is often unreliable.”
Whenever the network struggled, she would ask the tech department at the Patrol to look into it.
They’d told her it could take up to a week to fix the signal issues.
Thankfully, the connection would sometimes stabilize on its own, and she’d eventually get the chapter uploaded. But it was an annoying process.
Seizing the downtime, Tights picked up her phone and dialed her mother’s number.
As per her routine, Tights would call her parents daily to let them know she was safe, usually via video call.
However, today she was met with a voice saying, “The number you’re trying to reach is outside the service area.”
Tights: “???”
She froze, bewildered.
What’s going on?
Is the signal really that bad today?
Tights stepped out of her room and headed to the tech department to check.
“Everything seems fine today; the network’s working normally,” the tech team reported after checking Galactic Patrol’s systems.
“Then why can’t I get through to Earth?” Tights asked.
“Let me see,” one technician said, quickly working at the console.
As he looked at the data, the technician’s face changed, his expression becoming increasingly troubled.
“What’s wrong? Say something!” Tights had a sinking feeling in her stomach.
“This… this has to be some kind of joke,” the technician stammered, pointing at the display. “Look at Earth… it’s become… like this?”
Other techs gathered around the screen, all staring at Earth’s grim, devastated appearance.
The once vibrant planet now looked like something out of an apocalyptic nightmare.
Tights saw the image of Earth and felt like she’d been struck by lightning. She collapsed into a chair nearby, her face pale.
What happened to Earth?
“Isn’t Earth under Jaco’s watch? Get Jaco over here!” someone suggested.
Jaco quickly arrived after hearing the news.
Jaco stared at the screen, perplexed.
There hadn’t been any mention of a global catastrophe or war recently.
How could Earth, a thriving planet, suddenly become a dead star?
“Are there any survivors?” Jaco asked the tech team.
“Based on the scans, there’s no sign of life anywhere on the planet. Not even plants or animals remain,” a technician reported.
“Could this be the work of a Saiyan?” Jaco muttered, still holding a grudge over previous Saiyan incidents.
“You mean Ren or Broly?” Tights asked, trying to stay calm.
“Who else? Who else could do something like this to Earth?” Jaco retorted.
“No way, it couldn’t be them! They’re good people; they would never do something like this!” Tights firmly denied the accusation.
“Then explain to me why Earth has turned into a dead star,” Jaco shot back.
“I need to go back and see for myself!” Tights declared.
“That’s crazy! If something dangerous destroyed Earth, going back now is too risky,” Jaco said sternly.
“I don’t care! My parents and my sister are there—I need answers!” Tights’ voice wavered, her face pale.
And what about my novel?
Is there no point in continuing it now?
I’ve written close to 400,000 words!
This is too tragic.
“I’m going back, Jaco, whether you help me or not,” Tights said firmly, her eyes tearing up.
Jaco sighed, seeing her resolve, and requested permission from the Galactic King to investigate Earth.
The Galactic King, recognizing the seriousness of the situation, quickly dispatched additional support.
Soon, a Galactic Patrol spacecraft was speeding toward Earth.
The ship’s advanced engines made the journey relatively quick, taking only a few hours to reach Earth’s orbit.
The entire planet was eerily lifeless, devoid of any green.
The sky had turned gray, and even the oceans seemed colorless, like stagnant water.
“How could a planet like Earth end up like this?” one of the patrol members muttered, shocked by the sight. “We were just monitoring Earth a few days ago.”
“I was just updating my novel yesterday…” Tights said anxiously, turning to Jaco. “Take me to West City, I want to go home!”
Jaco glanced at her sympathetically and complied. Following their coordinates, the ship descended toward West City.
But as Tights looked down, all she saw were ruins and devastation.
“Jaco! This isn’t West City! You think I wouldn’t recognize my own home?” Tights snapped angrily.
“This is strange… The coordinates are correct,” Jaco said, scratching his head in confusion.
“Jaco, there’s something else… We’ve detected traces of radiation all over the planet—nuclear radiation. It’s extremely hazardous,” one of the techs reported.
“Nuclear radiation?” Jaco blinked, puzzled.
“Nuclear radiation? That’s impossible! Those weapons were completely destroyed centuries ago,” Tights said, stunned.
“Destroyed? How?” Jaco asked curiously.
“A groundbreaking technological advancement wiped out all nuclear weapons and reactors long ago. I learned about it in history class—my great-great-grandfather invented the new energy source that replaced them,” Tights explained.
“Well, Earth now seems to have been destroyed by nuclear weapons. The whole planet is contaminated with radiation,” the technician confirmed. “Based on preliminary scans, it looks like the planet was wiped out about 300 years ago.”
“What? 300 years ago? How is that possible?” Tights was in disbelief. “I just spoke to my parents yesterday! I even uploaded a new chapter for my novel! How can you say Earth was destroyed 300 years ago?”
“The data doesn’t lie,” the tech responded, though even he sounded unsure.
“Jaco, what’s going on here?” Tights demanded.
…
I Am Merus, Trainee Angel and Marcarita’s Younger Brother (Part 2)
…
“I honestly have no idea…” Jaco admitted, scratching his head. “Let’s suit up and investigate.”
The spacecraft slowly descended.
Tights and Jaco donned radiation suits and exited the ship.
As Tights walked through the wasteland, she felt more and more disconnected from the Earth she knew.
Everything here was foreign.
Jaco was equally confused and ordered samples of the soil and ruins to be taken for further analysis.
Half an hour later…
The spacecraft lifted off, returning to space.
“This is worse than any sci-fi novel I’ve ever written,” Tights muttered, on the verge of tears. “You’re telling me Earth was destroyed 300 years ago? Are you all just messing with me?”
“We have no reason to lie,” Jaco replied, shaking his head. “I’m just as confused as you are. I want to get to the bottom of this too.”
“And what about my parents? My sister? What happened to them?” Tights asked, her voice cracking. “And what about my 400,000-word novel?”
Jaco: “…”
I’m starting to think your family matters less to you than your novel.
After a moment of silence…
“Tights, you’re a writer worthy of admiration,” Jaco said with a sigh.
…
Universe 11, Planet of Pride
After more than three hours of flight, Ren and Merus finally arrived above the planet.
“First, let’s locate Jiren,” Merus said, holding his staff and carefully searching for Jiren’s energy.
It’s worth mentioning that Ren had already returned the staff to Merus. He had only been joking earlier.
Ren had no real interest in Merus’ staff.
If I wanted a staff, wouldn’t it be better to get one from Vados instead?
“There, I’ve found him,” Merus pointed toward a dense forest below, closely observing Jiren through the staff.
After two minutes…
“He’s not a beauty, why are you staring at him for so long?” Ren teased.
Merus: “…”
“I was reading his features. Based on his appearance, Jiren seems like a genuinely kind-hearted person,” Merus replied, sounding excited.
“You can tell that from his face?” Ren asked, a bit surprised. “Can you read faces now?”
“Well, when you’ve met as many people as I have, you get a sense of someone’s nature just by looking at them,” Merus smiled confidently. “I can usually tell whether someone’s good or bad.”
“So, what about that Supreme Kai named Zamasu? Is he good or bad?” Ren inquired.
Merus: “???”
“Why are you bringing up Zamasu all of a sudden?” Merus asked, puzzled by the sudden mention of the Supreme Kai from Universe 10.
“No reason, just curious. If you don’t want to answer, forget I asked,” Ren said nonchalantly.
Merus wiped his brow nervously.
After a brief moment of thought, Merus answered, “Judging by Zamasu’s appearance, he’s naturally a good person. After all, the fruits of the Kaiju tree that become Supreme Kais are the best of the best.”
“Uh… those fruits, can they be eaten? If so, do they grant immortality?” Ren asked casually.
Merus didn’t feel like responding anymore.
You really know how to kill a conversation.
“Still, I feel like Zamasu has a rebellious streak. He’ll probably cause a big problem for the gods in the future,” Ren mused.
“Huh? A rebellious streak? What do you mean?” Merus asked, confused.
“I mean, someday he might do something earth-shattering, something that could shake the entire realm of the gods,” Ren said, thoughtfully.
“Ren, maybe you should go back and help Tights write her novels,” Merus joked with a smile.
“Merus, you’re getting better at making jokes,” Ren laughed.
“This Jiren fellow would make an excellent Supreme Kai candidate,” Merus said, returning to his observation of Jiren. “Look at him, his demeanor even somewhat resembles a Supreme Kai.”
“Come on, tell me what his glowing eyes have to do with Supreme Kais,” Ren shot back.
Merus didn’t bother responding to Ren anymore.
I’m just saying he’s a good candidate and trying to give him a solid justification.
You’ve really become a nitpicker, haven’t you?
It’s only been half a year, and you’ve gotten worse.
“So, what’s the plan?” Ren asked.
“What else? Let’s go visit him,” Merus replied after thinking for a moment.
“Just show up? In what capacity?” Ren asked again.
“As a trainee angel, of course. How else?” Merus responded.
“And what if he’s not interested in becoming a Supreme Kai? What’s your backup plan? Knock him out and take him back for ‘training’?” Ren suggested with a smirk.
Merus: “…”
You’re way too direct.
This is about mentoring a Supreme Kai, not a Destroyer.
“With your strength, knocking him out shouldn’t be a problem, right?” Ren asked again.
Merus didn’t want to answer anymore.
I’m a trainee angel, after all.
Am I not capable of handling a human?
I know Jiren’s strong, but angels aren’t weak either!
As long as we don’t engage in a full battle, angels won’t disappear.
And besides, knocking him out isn’t even considered a real fight.
Merus thought about it for a moment and realized Ren was leading him astray again.
I wasn’t planning to knock Jiren out!
You’re the one trying to mess with my head.
I almost fell for it again.
Merus nervously wiped his brow.
“You stay quiet and let me handle this,” Merus warned, afraid that Ren might talk Jiren out of accepting the offer.
“Alright, I’ll keep quiet and just watch,” Ren agreed with a smile.
“Thanks,” Merus said politely.
Moments later, Merus and Ren descended, landing in front of Jiren’s home.
Jiren’s dwelling looked peaceful and secluded, like a retreat far from the world.
At that moment, Jiren was hovering in the air, meditating with his eyes closed.
This was one of Jiren’s training methods, similar to the way Gohan and Krillin meditated in their spaceship on the way to Namek.
Jiren felt the flow of the universe, his expression calm.
Suddenly, Jiren sensed something and opened his eyes, scanning the nearby area.
When he looked, he immediately noticed the descending figures of Ren and Merus.
Jiren remained silent, his expression unreadable as he observed the two who had landed at his doorstep.
Knock, knock.
Merus stepped forward and knocked on the door.
Jiren slowly floated down to the ground.
“Anyone home?” Merus called out from outside.
Jiren: “…”
“Mr. Jiren, are you in?” Merus asked politely.
Jiren was speechless.
We just made eye contact in the air.
Do I even need to answer?
Nonetheless, Jiren slowly approached and opened the door.
Merus immediately greeted him with a bow.
Jiren didn’t respond much, just studying Merus with a careful eye.
It didn’t take long for Jiren to deduce Merus’ identity from his attire.
“What’s your relation to Marcarita?” Jiren asked.
“I am Merus, a trainee angel, and Marcarita’s younger brother,” Merus responded truthfully.
“Do you need something?” Jiren asked.
“I’d like to invite you to become my trainee Supreme Kai,” Merus got straight to the point. “Would you be interested, Mr. Jiren?”
