A convoy of Western Star 4900 heavy-duty trucks was speeding down the interstate. On the surface, it looked like an ordinary Amazon delivery fleet, with the company’s logo painted on the shipping containers behind the truck cabs. However, this convoy wasn’t what it seemed.
Inside the containers, instead of packages, were fully armed mercenaries, with ventilation fans buzzing to keep the air fresh.
Sitting cross-legged on the floor, Eclipse was inspecting his firearm.
“I heard the boss is going to reward anyone who performs well on this mission with the animal serum,” said one of the gunmen beside him. “Just like Dr. Connors—being able to shift between human and animal form at will.”
The mention of the serum sparked an excited conversation among the men. Almost everyone harbored a secret desire for superpowers, one of the reasons why mutants were often envied and even hated.
“If I had a choice, I’d pick the tiger. King of the jungle!” one of them boasted.
“Lions are way stronger!” another argued, leading to a heated debate.
Eclipse listened with a slight smirk but remained silent. In his mind, if he were to choose, he’d prefer an animal that could fly. A golden eagle or a peregrine falcon would be his top picks. Still, he wasn’t sure if the animal serum would conflict with his mutant X-gene.
No one in the group still considered themselves loyal to the Mata cartel or the Sicilian Falcone crime family. They all saw themselves as soldiers of the Green Demon, Broly. After all, the Mata cartel would never dare directly confront the Mexican military or rob a corporation as powerful as Oscorp. Only by following Broly could they achieve such grand ambitions.
After shoveling manure for so long, they had finally made it, and some of them were so moved they were wiping away tears.
Alejandro drove a modest Toyota Corolla, following the convoy of trucks closely. These trucks had just left the New York Veterans Hospital. After Dr. Connors exposed Oscorp’s secret experiments at the hospital, the fastest reporters had quickly surrounded the facility. Some tabloid journalists had even attempted to scale the hospital’s walls to interview the veterans.
Thanks to Oscorp’s connections, the NYPD delayed their search warrant, giving the hospital enough time to act. They injected the mutated lizard test subjects with lethal doses of anesthetic and smuggled them out in garbage trucks, transporting them to other secret Oscorp laboratories.
Alejandro gripped the steering wheel with one hand, while the other gently tapped the M4A1 assault rifle resting on the passenger seat. If he opened fire on the convoy right now, releasing those sedated lizard mutants, Oscorp would be utterly ruined and teeter on the edge of bankruptcy.
However, the highway was congested, and if the lizard mutants went berserk, the resulting chaos and casualties would far surpass the Brooklyn Bridge incident.
“Conscience is the biggest obstacle to getting rich,” Alejandro muttered to himself.
He had invested all his savings in betting against Oscorp’s stock alongside Broly. With the way Oscorp’s stock was plummeting, Alejandro was already a millionaire.
As the convoy slowly turned off the highway, under the watchful eyes of armed security, it entered one of Oscorp’s secret laboratories.
Alejandro didn’t stop. The team transporting the lizard mutants was experienced, and any slight mistake could get him caught. He drove about a mile away, parked his car in a random spot, and then walked back toward the lab.
Reaching a building with a clear vantage point, he climbed to the rooftop and set up his long-range camera. Pulling out his phone, he called Broly.
After waiting for about five or six minutes, the air was suddenly filled with the roar of something moving at supersonic speed, creating a sonic boom.
“Boom!”
With a deafening noise, Broly dropped out of supersonic flight above the lab and landed on the ground. In a flash, he vanished inside the building.
The guards at the entrance were still looking up at the sky, bewildered by what had just happened.
Alejandro took a deep breath. Broly was becoming more terrifying by the day. He could barely comprehend how a person could fly at supersonic speeds using just their body without being crushed by the shockwaves.
Not long after, the sounds of gunfire echoed from within the lab, followed by the explosions of grenades.
Oscorp’s security forces were engaging in a fierce battle with the escaped lizard mutants. Though the mutants were being shot, their rapid regeneration allowed them to heal almost instantly. In the confined space of the building, their sharp claws and powerful tails were wreaking havoc. Even the armored guards, despite their bulletproof vests, were being severely injured—some having their throats ripped open by the lizards’ claws.
Blood sprayed everywhere. The place had turned into a hellscape.
The lab director, in a desperate attempt to contain the situation, sealed off the affected sections, trapping both the lizard mutants and the security personnel together.
“F***! Open the door, now!”
Oscorp’s guards, already struggling, fell into complete disarray when their escape route was cut off. They were being torn to shreds by the rampaging mutants.
The lizard mutants began tearing at the bulletproof glass and reinforced aluminum doors. Their claws screeched against the metal, creating a horrible noise. Doors that could withstand heavy machine-gun fire were starting to buckle under their attacks.
“Hurry! Bring in reinforcements from Oscorp’s other security teams! The doors won’t hold much longer!”
The lab director, watching the slaughter unfold on the security monitors, shivered in fear, nearly wetting himself. He was used to watching test subjects strapped down on operating tables, not facing this kind of mayhem.
Oscorp’s stock was already in free fall, and the company couldn’t handle any more turmoil. The lizard mutants absolutely could not be allowed to escape.
Upon receiving the distress call, Oscorp’s board immediately mobilized nearly all of the company’s armed forces in New York to secure the lab and contain the rampaging mutants.
Broly, meanwhile, appeared beside Alejandro.
While adjusting the camera to snap more photos, Alejandro said, “Everything’s going smoothly. Oscorp’s entire security force has been drawn to the lab. The Oscorp Tower is now practically defenseless.”
“Good. The sooner this is over, the sooner I can get back to training.”
Broly stretched, then floated in a meditative pose, suspended in the air. The time for his battle with the Huoyun Xieshen was fast approaching, and he could feel that the Huoyun’s energy had become strange.
“Hello? Is this the Daily Bugle? I’ve got a huge scoop for you, something big about Oscorp!” Alejandro said, copying the photos from his camera onto his phone and making a call.
