After gathering information from Law, Mosen pulled out a Den Den Mushi from his pocket and dialled Sengoku.
Buru buru… buru buru…
“Sengoku-san, I’ve found the boy. I’m ready to report the details if you’re available.”
“Hold on a moment, Mosen.”
From the other end, Sengoku’s voice was heard, followed by shouting: “Damn you, Garp, get out! I have work to do!”
“Hey, damn Sengoku, I brought you new tea and you won’t even give me some senbei!”
“Get out, now!”
“Stingy Sengoku… Oh, it’s Kuzan, you’re back. Come have tea with me, this old…”
The voice faded away.
Mosen was left speechless. So, Garp did spend every day in Sengoku’s office, he thought.
“You can proceed, Mosen.”
“Understood, Sengoku-san.” Mosen began, “Doflamingo has a spy within the Marines. His name is Vergo…”
Sengoku was stunned by Mosen’s first sentence.
“Hiss… So it’s him…” Sengoku seemed to realise something.
“Sengoku-san?”
“It’s nothing, go on.”
Adjusting his position, Mosen continued, “The Op-Op Fruit was taken by Rosinante and given to the boy with lead-platinum disease, but Rosinante was gravely injured… That’s the gist of it.”
Mosen finished his report and waited for Sengoku’s instructions.
After digesting the information, Sengoku asked in a low voice, “That boy, is he… never mind. Just confirm he’s safe. That was Rosinante’s wish after all.” Pausing briefly, he continued, “You did an excellent job on this mission, Mosen. Take a good rest and then return to base. You’ll receive the honor you deserve.”
“Yes, Sengoku-san.”
Click, the call ended.
As for Law, Sengoku understood Rosinante’s wishes. He wouldn’t force a traumatised child, especially one who the World Government had betrayed.
“Phew,” Mosen sighed in relief. With the mission complete, he could relax now.
“I want to sail the big ship and have some fun with the ladies… No, better not. Who knows who will end up troubling whom,” Mosen muttered, touching his face and discarding the idea.
“Hey, Law, want to join me?”
Mosen looked at Law, who had regained his cold expression.
“No way!”
Mosen gave Law a regretful glance. Such a straightforward refusal—he had no idea what he was missing.
“Are you rejecting me out of jealousy for my handsomeness? Law, you need to face the truth.”
Law’s face darkened, and he yelled at Mosen, “Who’s jealous of you, you narcissist!”
“There you go, that’s the spirit of a young boy,” Mosen laughed.
Navy Headquarters, Admiral’s Office
After ending the call, Sengoku leaned back in his chair, stroking his beard in deep thought.
For a moment, he wanted to send someone to apprehend Vergo immediately.
But as the Navy’s famed strategist, he restrained his impulse.
If it were Garp, he would probably rush in, beat Vergo senselessly, and drag him to Impel Down.
If it were Mosen, he would likely charge in and dismember the traitor.
Sengoku, however, chose a more cunning approach.
He pretended he didn’t know Vergo’s true identity and used him to gather information on the Donquixote Family.
Since Rosinante left Do Flamingo’s crew, Tsuru had struggled to track the family’s movements.
Capturing them all at once had become even more challenging.
Now, he had a perfect opportunity. By leveraging Vergo’s position, he could feed false information and eventually destroy the Donquixote Family.
“If that’s the plan, the G-5 base commander needs to be replaced. But with whom?”
After pondering for a while, Sengoku picked up the Den Den Mushi and made a call.
“Check Major General Jonathan’s schedule. If he’s on base, have him come to me immediately. If not, inform him to report back as soon as he returns.”
“Yes, Sengoku-san.”
As the soon-to-be Fleet Admiral, Sengoku couldn’t directly appoint a new base commander. But after some manoeuvres, it would be settled with approval from Fleet Admiral Kong.
Back on Hayan Island
Mosen looked at the stubborn Law with a headache.
“I reject your challenge; you’re too weak now.”
“Are you afraid?” Law’s face was full of disdain.
Mosen was exasperated. “Your goading is so obvious, I don’t even feel like responding.”
“I’m afraid I might accidentally kill you, kid. You’re too weak. Challenge me in five or ten years.”
Perhaps sensing Mosen’s goodwill, Law’s stubbornness seemed to flare up. He insisted on challenging Mosen.
With Law having recently operated on himself, Mosen was genuinely worried about hurting him.
“Alright, I’ll accept your challenge after we get some proper food and rest in town. You need to build up some strength.”
Law’s face turned slightly red before he hid it behind a cool demeanour. “Fine, I’ll agree to that.”
Your reluctant attitude… where did you learn that from?
Mosen’s face darkened. He hoped Law would refuse.
Unable to resist, he playfully knocked Law’s hat. “You should know how to say thank you, you brat.”
“Damn it, I want to duel you right now!” Law fumed.
“Catch me if you can.”
“Don’t run!”
“Law, wait for us! Wait for us!”
In the Best Restaurant in Town
Mosen sat with Law and his companions at a table covered in empty plates, with more dishes being brought from the kitchen.
Mosen, a big eater, enjoyed the meal. Having never seen such a feast, the three kids and the bear stuff their faces without concern for manners.
Fortunately, Mosen had made a lot of money on his journey, so the meal was just a small expense.
After clearing the table once again, Mosen finally felt satisfied. He’d had to endure the terrible cooking of the former Bounty Pirates’ chef, thinking it was poisoned at first.
Rushing through the journey, Mosen had to tolerate it, only getting decent meals when docking to restock.
Today’s meal was the most satisfying he’d had in days.
