The next morning, as the first rays of dawn slowly rose from the horizon, Foxy woke up at his usual time when the sky was still dim.
He glanced over at the other bed where Donald Duck lay on his back, his round belly facing up, legs crossed, wings spread out in an ‘X’ shape, lightly snoring with his mouth slightly open. Foxy quietly left the room.
Breathing in the fresh air, Foxy headed to the training ground to start his workout. He practiced shaving, moonwalking, Finger Pistol, and basic exercises without skipping a beat.
After about an hour, the training ground began to fill with Marines doing their morning run. When they saw Foxy doing push-ups with three 2,000-pound barbells, they were all slack-jawed in disbelief.
They knew that a 2,000-pound barbell was one ton, and Foxy was just a teenager. Yet, he was training with three tons of weight, and the speed at which he did push-ups was not normal.
Foxy’s training went beyond the limits of ordinary people, leaving the onlookers gulping in astonishment.
Especially when they saw him balancing his weight plus an additional ton on a single finger, they felt that their usual training was child’s play.
Just as Foxy was engrossed in his training, a pair of large boots appeared in front of him.
Sweating profusely, Foxy kicked off the barbells with his feet. With a slight push from his finger, he flipped into the air and landed steadily, looking at the person in front of him while panting slightly.
The man wore a light purple striped suit and a dark blue shirt, with a Mohican hairstyle. His hair was deep purple, and he wore a Vice Admiral’s justice coat, looking somewhat stern.
“You must be one of Zefa-sensei’s students,” the man said, his face softening a bit as he looked at Foxy.
Foxy found the man familiar and realized he was a Vice Admiral.
“Yes, sir,” Foxy saluted and answered, “I am.”
“If you are Zefa-sensei’s student, then I should be your senior, from the previous class,” the man continued, seeing Foxy’s momentary confusion. “My name is Dalmatian. You might not have heard of me.”
“I have heard of you. Zefa-sensei mentioned you a few times,” Foxy lied smoothly.
“Really?”
Foxy nodded, even though Zefa had never mentioned Dalmatian.
“What’s your name?” Dalmatian asked.
“Foxy,” he replied.
“Foxy? Are you the cadet who encountered the World Breaker during your internship?” Dalmatian asked, somewhat surprised.
Strictly speaking, Dalmatian didn’t know Foxy, but he had heard about the World Breaker incident.
“If there’s no other Foxy in the academy, then that’s me,” Foxy grinned.
“It’s good to be alive,” Dalmatian said, patting Foxy’s shoulder without probing further.
“Zefa-sensei and the others will be here in a few days. If you have any questions during this time, feel free to ask me.”
“Okay,” Foxy nodded.
“Continue your training. I won’t disturb you,” Dalmatian said before leaving to patrol.
Watching Dalmatian’s departing figure, Foxy frowned slightly. Dalmatian was currently only a Vice Admiral, but he would become a mainstay of the Navy in the future, with formidable strength and extensive combat experience—a veteran Vice Admiral.
Due to their limited appearances, Foxy didn’t know much about these people, just a few names. However, their strength and importance in the Navy were undeniable.
Foxy didn’t dwell on it, continuing his training for another hour before returning to his room.
Seeing Donald Duck still sprawled on the bed, snoring, Foxy shook his head and smacked him awake.
“Quack… quack…” Donald Duck sat up suddenly, still a bit confused and as silly as ever.
“Get ready; I’m taking you out for a stroll.”
Upon hearing they were going out, Donald Duck quickly got up, his previously sleepy eyes now bright and full of life.
In no time, Foxy and Donald Duck left the base and entered the center of Loguetown.
Loguetown was bustling, with many people coming and going.
The majority were fierce-looking pirates. Conflict was inevitable with so many people around; within a single street, Foxy witnessed three fights.
Foxy observed coldly and led Donald Duck to the central square, where the execution platform for the Pirate King had been set up, guarded by a squad of Marines.
Many locals and visitors lingered around.
After wandering around, Foxy remembered something, but just then, Donald Duck called out weakly.
“Quack…”
Patting his stomach with his wings, Donald Duck indicated it was time for breakfast.
“What do you want to eat?” Foxy asked, rubbing his stomach.
Donald Duck blinked, seemingly in deep thought.
Seeing Donald Duck’s silly expression, Foxy knew he couldn’t come up with anything. In Alabasta, he mostly ate stolen bread and never had the chance to try any delicacies.
“Today, we’ll have udon for breakfast,” Foxy decided, spotting a noodle shop with an udon sign and a good number of customers.
“Quack quack,” Donald Duck’s eyes sparkled at the thought of food, even though he didn’t know what udon was.
“Let’s go.”
The duo walked to the shop, finding a table on the street.
“Boss, give us twenty bowls of spicy udon to start with,” Foxy said, attracting the attention of the nearby patrons.
Twenty bowls to start with? Each bowl of udon here was the size of a medium rice cooker. Could a kid finish twenty bowls?
“Are you sure?” the boss asked, looking at Foxy strangely, most eyes drawn to Donald Duck.
Sitting like a human, Donald Duck had his wings on the table, staring at the soup pot, swallowing repeatedly.
“Don’t worry, we have money.”
The bounty from the last heist still amounted to a few thousand, enough for a meal.
“Alright,” the boss agreed and started preparing the order.
Due to the increasing population in Loguetown, all the restaurants were bustling, with the boss’s entire family helping out, including an eight or nine-year-old boy.
The boy was delivering liquor and juice to various tables.
It wasn’t unusual to have alcohol with noodles in the morning.
Foxy noticed Donald Duck eyeing the juice on the counter and found it amusing.
“Three glasses of juice here,” he called out.
“Coming right up,” the boy smiled sweetly and brought three glasses of juice.
“This one is on me,” Foxy said, taking two glasses and leaving one for the boy.
The boy hesitated but then smiled genuinely, thanking Foxy before getting back to work.
This was life, simple and ordinary.
“Drink up,” Foxy said, placing the two glasses in front of Donald Duck. “There’s more if you finish.”
“Quack,” Donald Duck happily bit the straw and started drinking, his round eyes curving into crescents with joy.
