“Kai, is it convenient for me to visit your home today? I want to conduct a home visit,” Mokutsuki told Might Guy after their training session.
“Huh, what’s a home visit?” Guy scratched his head, puzzled.
The Ninja Academy didn’t have the practice of home visits or parent-teacher meetings, so Guy needed help understanding Mokutsuki’s intentions.
“You can think of it as me coming over as a guest. After all, it’s the first time I’ve known another Eight Gates practitioner besides myself,” Mokutsuki smiled.
“No problem, that’s very convenient,” Guy replied enthusiastically.
Guy was naturally very welcoming of Mokutsuki’s visit. After all, Mokutsuki helped him a lot, and Guy was very grateful. His achievements, whether being the top student in his grade or defeating ninjas who spoke ill of his father, were all thanks to Mokutsuki’s dedicated teaching.
“Then, teacher, I’ll run home first and tell my father so he can prepare more food,” Guy suggested after thinking for a moment.
Might Duy’s cooking schedule need to be more consistent? Sometimes, the food was ready when Guy got home; sometimes, it had yet to start.
“No need, we’ll go together. I can buy some ingredients on the way,” Mokutsuki said warmly.
Although Mokutsuki didn’t initially plan to eat, since Guy mentioned it, he decided not to refuse Guy’s hospitality. Eating together would also make it more convenient for his plans.
“But teacher, if you’re a guest, it wouldn’t be right to trouble you with buying ingredients,” Guy protested.
“Just consider it that your teacher is a bit picky about food,” Mokutsuki said with a smile, patting Guy’s head.
Guy still felt it wasn’t right, but he couldn’t argue with Mokutsuki and eventually agreed.
Guy led Mokutsuki to his home, and on the way, they bought some ingredients at the nearest market.
“I’m home,” Guy announced as he opened the door.
“Kai, welcome back! Did you have a youthful and vigorous training session today?” Might Duy respond enthusiastically while washing vegetables?
“Of course, today was another day full of youthful energy,” Guy replied instinctively.
When he remembered Mokutsuki was with him, Guy quickly added, “Dad, we have a guest.”
“A guest, you say?” Might Duy stopped what he was doing and walked towards the door.
“Dad, this is Teacher Mokutsuki. He’s a teacher at the Ninja Academy and an exceptional one at that. Because of his outstanding teaching abilities, he’s been promoted to Special Jounin,” Guy introduced Mokutsuki.
Following Mokutsuki’s instructions, Guy only revealed a little information, only what was publicly known.
“A Special Jounin, huh? That must mean you’re an exceptional ninja,” Might Duy said, giving a thumbs up and showing his big smile.
“Hello, Duy-senpai,” Mokutsuki greeted with a smile. Guy had already given him a brief introduction about Duy on the way.
Might Duy’s impression of Mokutsuki immediately improve? Despite being significantly younger, Mokutsuki, as a Special Jounin, respectfully addressed him as “senpai,” even though he was just a low-ranking ninja.
“Dad, these are the ingredients Teacher Mokutsuki bought on the way here,” Guy said, handing over the groceries.
“A guest buying ingredients, that’s not right,” Duy commented, feeling it was inappropriate.
“Haha, I saw a discount on the way and couldn’t resist buying them. I’m sorry if it’s an inconvenience,” Mokutsuki apologised with a smile.
“Well, if there was a discount, that’s understandable. Anyone would be tempted,” Duy said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
Guy scratched his head, unsure if Mokutsuki was telling the truth about the discount or just saying it to make his father accept the gesture.
Mokutsuki didn’t forcefully insist on helping with cooking or washing dishes, knowing that being overly enthusiastic could be counterproductive.
Mokutsuki initiated the conversation with a smile during dinner, “Kai is very diligent at school. Although his basics weren’t strong initially, he’s made great progress since the start of the first semester of the fourth grade. Now, he has only one real competitor.”
“This is the power of youth!” Duy exclaimed, hugging Guy and shedding tears of pride.
Despite starting with poor grades, Guy never gave up. Watching his son grow from the bottom of the class to the top made Duy incredibly proud.
“Dad, we’re still eating,” Guy reminded him.
“Eat more, youthful energy needs fuel,” Duy encouraged.
“Duy-senpai, may I see your Eight Gates? I also practice this technique,” Mokutsuki asked after dinner.
“Teacher Mokutsuki, how did you know? And you practice it too?” Duy was surprised.
“Dad, I told Teacher Mokutsuki,” Guy explained.
“Besides teaching Guy at the academy, I’m also his personal mentor. He once mentioned practicing the Eight Gates,” Mokutsuki explained briefly.
Revealing his mentoring relationship with Guy to Duy was a well-considered decision by Mokutsuki.
First, Duy was a reliable and low-key person who remained a humble, eternal Genin despite mastering the Eight Gates. Revealing this relationship wouldn’t risk exposure.
Second, it would improve Duy’s goodwill, facilitating Mokutsuki’s plans to boost Guy’s trust.
“Teacher Mokutsuki, I…” The guy was surprised. He had only intended to help explain things but hadn’t expected Mokutsuki to reveal their relationship, which he had been forbidden to mention.
“It’s fine, considering he is your father,” Mokutsuki reassured gently.
Guy felt Mokutsuki’s trust and resolved to remind his father to keep this information confidential later.
“So, he’s Kai’s teacher. That explains a lot,” Duy thought, realising why Guy’s skills had improved so dramatically in the first semester of the fourth grade.
“Thank you so much, Teacher Mokutsuki!” Duy said solemnly, bowing deeply.
Duy felt somewhat guilty towards Guy. As a father, the only technique he could teach was the extremely dangerous Eight Gates. He couldn’t teach other ninjutsu or taijutsu because he didn’t know any.
