Mosen stood aside, squinting at Admiral Akainu’s stern face as he parted the crowd and strode over.
He hadn’t forgotten Akainu’s ruthless attack just now. With his current Devil Fruit ability, he couldn’t evade the highly developed magma powers of Akainu.
The stone slabs on the ground had melted into a large pit.
“As Marine officers of the headquarters, fighting in front of civilians disgraces the Navy’s honor. Both of you are under arrest. Men, take them away,” Akainu ordered, not caring about right or wrong, only the Navy’s face.
However,
Risti was too weak to speak, but Mosen was still relatively fine.
“Admiral Akainu, this matter needs to be investigated properly. I’m the victim here.”
Mosen’s words darkened Akainu’s face. As a strict traditionalist Marine, disobedience to orders was a grave offense in his eyes.
“Captain Mosen, are you questioning my decision?” Akainu’s gaze turned dangerous.
Mosen was speechless. Was this guy so domineering?
I just spoke the truth. Why can’t I dispute?
He came here and arrested people without understanding the situation. Does he think that I should listen to him without question just because he’s a candidate for Admiral?
We need the internal affairs department to determine the truth first.
Moreover, I was genuinely acting in self-defense!
“I wouldn’t dare have an opinion, but, Admiral, coming here and arresting people without knowing the details is a bit inappropriate. Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you I’m the victim.”
Akainu’s face darkened further.
The situation was that the supposed victim, Mosen, was fine, while Risti looked like he was nearly killed. If Akainu had been a bit later, he’d probably have to prepare for a funeral.
“Regardless of right or wrong, acting recklessly in front of civilians undermines the Navy’s dignity. Seems like I’ll have to take you in myself for interrogation,” Akainu said, stepping closer, his tone icy.
Akainu cared more about the Navy’s image than anything else, which irritated Mosen.
But fighting Akainu wasn’t his intention.
Not to mention whether he could win—well, he definitely couldn’t.
More importantly, fighting a superior officer on his first day as a Captain wouldn’t look good.
Even pirates follow their leaders’ commands.
Fortunately, Mosen saw Sengoku and Garp approaching in the distance.
Thinking quickly, he let a mouthful of blood trickle out, his face turning pale as he leaned on his sword, appearing on the verge of collapse.
Akainu’s face darkened further, and the crowd and soldiers were also stunned.
Is there such a shameless act?
Is this a joke? This isn’t just cunning; it’s divine-level cunning.
“I sustained internal injuries just now and can’t suppress it anymore. I need immediate medical attention.”
Seeing soldiers treating Risti’s wounds, Mosen added to his act.
In the distance, Vincent and Leaf, genuinely believing Mosen was gravely injured after seeing him hit and bleed, hurried over to support him, confronting Akainu.
Akainu felt his worldview shattering. He thought having a powerful young recruit was a boon for the Navy.
As a straightforward man, he had never encountered such shameless tactics.
This disgraceful conduct was a blot on the Navy!
If not for Sengoku and Garp arriving, he might have already acted on his sense of justice.
Sengoku and Garp arrived at the scene. Sengoku had been informed earlier and was feeling quite troubled. Compared to Mosen, even Smoker’s rebelliousness seemed minor.
Usually, such matters wouldn’t require his presence, but the negative impact and Garp wanting to join the excitement forced him to come.
“Mosen, what’s going on?”
Sengoku’s and Garp’s presence quieted the crowd and soldiers.
“Never mind, don’t speak,” Sengoku said, waving Mosen off. He turned to Vincent and Leaf.
“You two, tell me what happened.”
Leaf stepped forward: “Reporting, Admiral Sengoku, I know what happened…”
She recounted the events. After verifying her story, Sengoku’s expression darkened.
He didn’t agree with Akainu’s approach but didn’t see it as wrong either.
The real issue was with Risti. He had been punished before and never got along with Sengoku.
Despite his brutal methods and disregard for ordinary soldiers, Risti captured numerous pirates.
Handling this situation was tricky.
“Take Brigadier General Risti to the hospital. We’ll decide on his punishment once his condition stabilizes,” Sengoku ordered.
Risti lay nearby, his wounds bandaged. He looked dejected, evidently deeply affected by this defeat. The mess he caused also made it hard for him to save face.
For once, he didn’t mock Sengoku, quietly accepting his fate.
Mosen saw this wasn’t looking good. He was also injured with serious internal injuries.
If only the other party’s injuries were severe while he seemed fine, it wouldn’t look good.
Though he was the victim, people sympathized with the weaker party.
In a weak voice, he said, “Admiral Sengoku, I think I need some treatment too.”
Sengoku’s face darkened further. Mosen has some decency.
He saw you jumping around energetically earlier. Do you think I didn’t notice?
Do you want treatment? Why don’t you just ascend to heaven?
“Do you really need treatment?” Sengoku’s tone was menacing, his gaze murderous.
Mosen quickly backed down, getting up promptly.
“Amazing, I seem to have healed so quickly. Youth is indeed a blessing, unlike the elderly…”
Mosen abruptly stopped, sensing the chilly atmosphere.
Realizing his blunder, he glanced at Sengoku and Garp.
Great, now I’ve included them too.
With an awkward smile, Mosen said to Sengoku, “If I’m no longer needed, I’ll take Vincent and head back.”
“Feel free to come by for a meal sometime. I’m quite the cook.”
Akainu frowned, about to speak, clearly feeling Mosen shouldn’t just leave.
Sengoku interrupted: “Although you’re the victim, this incident negatively affected nearby residents and caused significant damage to facilities. You’ll need to cover the repairs and submit a thorough report.”
“Yes, Admiral Sengoku,” Mosen replied, then added, “Your decision is very fair.”
He glanced subtly at the displeased Akainu, clearly implying something.
