After a good night’s sleep, Lan Xingyu’s energy and spirit were fully restored. Today was another day full of hope. (For those who know where this quote is from, if you could go back to that era, would you still save her?) Lan Xingyu stretched, got out of bed, washed up, and had breakfast quickly and efficiently.
The reason? Today, Lan Xingyu was going to start raising a pet in Monster Hunter (I didn’t misspell it; those who know, understand. It’s a painful realization). He turned on his computer and began his new world adventure.
While Lan Xingyu was engrossed in his game, Tony came up from the lab to have breakfast. As he ate, he watched Lan Xingyu play the game. Seeing Lan Xingyu so engrossed in the game made Tony realize how young Lan Xingyu really was.
Honestly, unless Lan Xingyu intentionally acted cute, his interactions and conversations with Tony often made people forget his age. This was why Tony treated Lan Xingyu as a friend in the cave. It was also why Tony didn’t mind Lan Xingyu’s somewhat lecturing tone and considered his words seriously.
Watching the child playing enthusiastically, Tony realized this was how Lan Xingyu should be.
Tony suddenly felt guilty. He had promised to take good care of Lan Xingyu, but so far, Lan Xingyu had been the one helping him.
First, there was the Asgardian metal, which Lan Xingyu gave him without caring about the money. Then, every time Tony was in danger during experiments, Lan Xingyu was there to help. Lan Xingyu even helped clarify Tony’s feelings for Pepper with a simple push. Not to mention the daily magic treatments for his palladium poisoning…
Tony suddenly felt like slapping himself. What had he been doing all this time? Tony wanted to make it up to Lan Xingyu. He wanted to know what Lan Xingyu really liked. Was it games?
But Tony didn’t want to ask directly, so he tried a roundabout way. “Lan Xingyu, playing Monster Hunter, huh? How’s it going? What are you fighting now?”
“You know Monster Hunter, Tony? I’m fighting the Pukei-Pukei right now. Do you have any tips?” Lan Xingyu replied without looking up, as he was currently being chased around by the monster.
“I know about it but haven’t played. Why do you like this game?” Tony continued his roundabout questioning.
“Me? Because I can raise pets here! Look at my cat. Isn’t it as cute as me?”
Lan Xingyu liked raising pets? That was something Tony could work with.
“Actually, I’ve been thinking about getting a pet to change things up. Any recommendations?” Tony felt his plan was going to succeed.
“You want to get a pet? You won’t just abandon it halfway or neglect it after feeding it, right? You better think it through,” Lan Xingyu said, leaving his keyboard to face Tony.
“If you abandon it halfway, I’ll despise you for life,” Lan Xingyu added.
Lan Xingyu found it odd. There was no mention of Tony wanting a pet in the movies. Could it be the butterfly effect from his presence?
“Don’t worry, I won’t. I really like animals,” Tony assured.
“Alright, what type are you thinking of? A cat or a dog?” Lan Xingyu asked.
“A dog! I have a thing for dogs. It should be cool, energetic, and if it has any traits like mine, even better,” Tony thought aloud.
Hearing Tony’s requirements, Lan Xingyu pondered. A Poodle, perhaps? No, it’s not cool enough. Suddenly, an idea struck him, and a sly smile spread across his face.
“Husky! How about a Siberian Husky? They’re said to have wolf bloodlines, full of energy, and very cool,” Lan Xingyu suggested.
“A Husky? Jarvis, show me some pictures of Huskies,” Tony instructed.
Jarvis quickly displayed several photos, all of which were of handsome Huskies.
Tony felt an instant connection. “Jarvis, order one for me. A puppy, with a pure bloodline. The purer, the better.”
“Understood, sir. I’ll get right on it.”
Lan Xingyu suddenly stopped Tony. “Are you sure about this? Huskies aren’t easy to raise!”
“Ha! Do you think I’m just anyone? I’m Tony Stark. Even if that dog wrecks my house, I won’t blame it. So please, don’t judge me with your ordinary people’s standards,” Tony laughed and walked away.
Watching Tony leave, Lan Xingyu said to Jarvis, “Jarvis, get someone to replace my door with a metal…no, an alloy door. As soon as possible, preferably before the dog arrives.”
“Understood, Mr. Lan Xingyu. The installation team is on their way.”
Soon enough, the workers arrived. Knowing it was Tony’s house, they worked quickly. Before noon, the installation was complete!
Lan Xingyu felt relieved. To his delight, the Husky arrived right after lunch.
Lan Xingyu and Tony welcomed the new family member together: a black and white Husky puppy.
The Husky was indeed adorable, with blue eyes and a black mask around them. Truly, it had traded intelligence for looks. Watching it play on the grass, Lan Xingyu thought.
Tony named the Husky Panda, saying it looked like a panda except for its size.
Just after bringing the Husky inside, Pepper arrived. Tony called her into the lab, and Lan Xingyu had a good idea of what Tony wanted to discuss.
Lan Xingyu set up a small surveillance spell at home. He wanted Tony to truly understand what kind of person Obadiah was. Although in the original story Tony managed to get the first arc reactor from Pepper, Lan Xingyu felt it was safer to keep an eye on things. He placed the first arc reactor Tony had taken out on his gaming table, which was in a blind spot and couldn’t be seen from the doorway.
Having done this, Tony and Pepper came upstairs.
“Lan Xingyu, I need your help today. Protect Pepper for me. I have a plan. Also, try not to hurt Obadiah. I want to talk to him myself,” Tony requested.
Lan Xingyu agreed without asking about the plan. “Okay, I got it.”
Before leaving with Pepper, Lan Xingyu told Tony, “I put the gift you gave me on my gaming table.”
Then he and Pepper got into the car and headed to Stark Industries.
Seeing Pepper a bit nervous, Lan Xingyu comforted her, “Don’t worry, Pepper. I’m very strong. No one can hurt you with me around.” Lan Xingyu said confidently.
“Thank you, Lan Xingyu. I feel much better,” Pepper replied, knowing Tony wouldn’t have Lan Xingyu protect her if he wasn’t capable.
At the company, Lan Xingyu and Pepper went straight to Tony’s office. While Pepper worked on the computer, Lan Xingyu pretended to play with the items on the cabinet near the door, but he was actually keeping watch.
Just as Pepper found the files she needed, the door moved.
