Lan Xingyu looked at the white tiger in front of him and, matching it to the knowledge in his mind, said, “A white tiger with fully awakened intelligence, a near-All-Father level being. If I’m not mistaken, you must be the White Tiger, Bai Di.”
“Bai Di? What’s that?” Tony asked curiously.
“How to put it… You can think of it like this: my summoning circle can call creatures from other worlds to fight alongside me, provided I can form a contract with them. This one is from a species that stands at the top of its world’s food chain, one of the four divine beasts, named Bai Di,” Lan Xingyu explained to Tony.
“A divine beast, huh? That sounds impressive! So, how do you form a contract with it?”
“Uh… you have to ask it. The contract method for divine beasts is determined by them,” Lan Xingyu said, looking at the white tiger.
“Show me the quality and quantity of your magic. Half-baked magic power won’t be of any use,” the white tiger said arrogantly.
“Magic power?” Lan Xingyu thought for a moment, then smiled a devious smile.
Seeing this smile, Tony took a few steps back. He had a strong feeling that this white tiger was about to have a bad time, a feeling that kept growing stronger…
The white tiger sniffed around and said curiously, “Strange? A spirit? No, I sense a higher power. Interesting. Touch my body and inject your magic.”
“Alright, here goes!” Lan Xingyu placed a hand on the white tiger’s head and channeled his vast, terrifying magic into it.
As soon as he did, the white tiger felt an unimaginably powerful surge of magic enter its body.
“What… power is this…” the white tiger stammered before foaming at the mouth and passing out.
Tony confirmed his earlier suspicion: this kid should not be messed with. Seeing the white tiger foaming at the mouth, Tony silently observed a three-second moment of silence for it.
Lan Xingyu woke the white tiger with a spell. This time, the tiger behaved itself, lying on the ground and wagging its tail as it said, “Lord Lan Xingyu, I acknowledge you as my master. Please allow me to form a master-servant contract with you.”
“How do I form a contract with you?” Lan Xingyu asked.
“Give me a name. That will serve as the contract token.”
“A name, huh? How about Hupo (Amber)?” Lan Xingyu suggested.
“Hupo?”
Lan Xingyu took a piece of chalk from his space and wrote “Hupo” on the ground. Pointing at the characters, he explained, “This ‘Hu’ stands for tiger, ‘Po’ represents white, and the side character means king.”
“A white tiger standing by the king’s side. This is a name befitting me,” the white tiger said excitedly.
“Master, please allow me to stay by your side forever,” Hupo said sincerely.
“Uh… but you’re quite large. You’ll attract too much attention.”
“Is that so? How about this?” Hupo said, shrinking down to the size of a kitten with a ring of longer white fur around its neck. Its voice also became adorably cute.
At this moment, Pepper arrived to see Tony. Seeing the “little white cat” on the ground, she rushed over and hugged Hupo.
“Aww! So cute! Where did this kitten come from?”
“Not someone! Let go of me!” Hupo yelped in pain. After all, considering Pepper’s physique, everyone knew she was quite well-endowed.
“She’s my sister,” Lan Xingyu explained.
“What! Master’s sister!” Hupo exclaimed, immediately withdrawing its magic meant to push Pepper away.
“Hey, this cat can talk!” Pepper exclaimed, surprised at the talking cat in her arms.
“Think of it as a talking magical creature. Don’t worry, it’s completely safe,” Lan Xingyu reassured Pepper.
“How did you summon her?” Pepper asked curiously, since the magical world was very unfamiliar to her.
“Like this, and like that,” Lan Xingyu explained.
“Oh, that’s amazing!” Pepper exclaimed.
“Pepper, let’s head back. Hupo has something important to do,” Lan Xingyu said seriously to Hupo.
“No matter what it is, I will do my best for you, Master,” Hupo said solemnly. But with its cute appearance and voice, it was so adorable that Pepper squeezed it tighter. Only when Hupo’s eyes rolled back and it started foaming at the mouth did she let go.
“I believe in you. Let’s go home first. Your task awaits you there,” Lan Xingyu said, leading the way home.
Tony seemed to have an epiphany, muttering to himself, “So that’s it! Maybe this is a good idea?”
“What did you say, Tony?” Pepper asked, noticing Tony’s muttering but not catching it clearly.
“Nothing. Pepper, don’t you have things to do? You should get going,” Tony quickly said, not wanting anyone to know he couldn’t handle a dog.
“That’s not going to work! There’s something important for Xingyu to decide today. School is about to start, and Xingyu hasn’t decided which one to attend,” Pepper said, dissatisfied. She also felt that Tony was hiding something from her.
When they entered the house together, Pepper was stunned by the mess. A black and white dog was running around, and upon seeing them, it rushed over and started rubbing against Tony’s legs.
“Another one? Tony, are you opening a zoo?” Pepper asked, confused. She recognized the Husky and suddenly felt a headache. A house-proud Tony paired with a house-wrecking dog—this was going to be a disaster.
“Pepper, put Hupo down,” Lan Xingyu said upon entering.
After Pepper put Hupo down, Lan Xingyu said to Hupo, “Can you use some form of pressure to keep it in line?”
“Simple!” Hupo said. Instantly, the Husky felt an overwhelming sense of threat and lay flat on the ground, staring at the white creature slightly larger than itself.
“Very good. If Panda goes into that area, stop him, but don’t hurt him. From now on, he’s your little brother,” Lan Xingyu said, pointing at his gaming area.
“Wait, why just your gaming area? What about my sofa and other things?” Tony asked, realizing something was off.
“If we limit Panda to just a small area, he’ll feel constantly threatened and unable to do anything. He’d be living in fear all the time,” Lan Xingyu said righteously. Besides, if Hupo handles it all, I wouldn’t have needed to persuade you to get a Husky.
“Listen, Tony. You are Panda’s owner. You should learn to take care of him and teach him what he can and can’t do. Hupo can assist you. Tony, I hope you understand that while Panda might be just a part of your life, to him, you are his whole world from the moment you brought him home,” Lan Xingyu said solemnly.
Tony didn’t speak, looking at Panda, who was rubbing against his leg. He picked Panda up and began stroking his fur, finally starting to take the new family member seriously. If it weren’t for Panda, he might have died yesterday.
“Alright, Panda, let’s get along. I’m your owner, Tony Stark. And your name is Panda,” Tony said. Pepper looked at Lan Xingyu in amazement and then at Tony.
She had never seen Tony like this before. Ever since Lan Xingyu had come into their lives, Tony had been slowly changing. Tony, known for his reckless behavior, was being transformed by this child.
Suddenly, she remembered something and asked Lan Xingyu, “Have you decided which school to attend? School starts in a few days.”
Lan Xingyu realized he still needed to go to school! Oh no, school again! What a hassle! But he couldn’t skip it, as it was Master Ancient One’s request.
“Midtown School, I guess,” Lan Xingyu said casually, remembering that Spider-Man attended Midtown. He wondered if he would meet Uncle Ben. Lan Xingyu still hoped to save Uncle Ben. Good people deserved better treatment.
As for Spider-Man, Lan Xingyu believed that some people were destined to be heroes.
