Become Gilgamesh in Bleach Chapter 55

The Power of Myth!

Gungnir!?

Aizen stared at the magnificent, platinum-gold spear in Gilgamesh’s hand, momentarily taken aback.

Due to his knowledge of the Spirit King, Aizen had developed an interest in human myths for a while, reading many books on the subject. It was during this period that he came across the name “Gilgamesh” in various myths, which is why he felt a sense of familiarity when he heard the name at the Shin’ō Academy.

Coincidentally, Aizen had also read about Norse mythology.

The tale of Ragnarok had intrigued him greatly, even making him contemplate orchestrating a Shinigami version of Ragnarok in Soul Society.

Naturally, Aizen was familiar with Gungnir as well.

In his memory, Gungnir was forged by dwarves from the branches of the World Tree and presented to the chief Norse god, Odin. Gungnir, also known as the Spear of Destiny, was said to emit a radiant light when thrown, referred to as a “shooting star” by those on the ground.

According to Norse mythology, anyone who swore an oath on this spear would see their oath fulfilled, which is one of the origins of wishing upon a shooting star.

Aizen didn’t have time to ponder this further as Gilgamesh, still seated on Vimana’s throne, raised Gungnir and hurled it with great force toward him.

With its true name released, Gungnir blazed brilliantly as it soared through the air like a shooting star.

Watching this scene, Aizen’s heart trembled slightly, feeling as if myth had come to life.

Despite sensing no spiritual pressure from Gungnir, Aizen felt an inexplicable sense of danger.

Trusting his intuition, Aizen immediately used Shunpo to evade.

Even if Gungnir was indeed the Spear of Destiny from Norse mythology, so what?

Spears, when used in close combat, were formidable, but as thrown weapons, no matter how powerful, had a fatal flaw: accuracy.

Enemies were not stationary targets; they could dodge.

Seeing the spear thrown at him, Aizen could simply dodge.

Furthermore, a thrown spear had only one chance to hit its target.

Aizen couldn’t understand why Gilgamesh would choose to throw Gungnir.

If Gungnir was real, wouldn’t it be better to use it in close combat?

With these thoughts, Aizen continued to use Shunpo, moving out of Gungnir’s range, ready to see what Gilgamesh would do next.

But just as Aizen halted his Shunpo and turned to look at Gilgamesh, he caught sight of a shooting star out of the corner of his eye.

Looking closely, he realized it was Gungnir, somehow aimed at him again.

His expression changed, and without hesitation, he used Shunpo again to evade.

Gin and Tōsen, who were near Vimana attempting to break through its barrier, also noticed the shooting star in the sky and Aizen’s constant Shunpo.

To them, no matter how Aizen used Shunpo to escape, he couldn’t shake off Gungnir.

Moreover, the distance between Aizen and Gungnir was decreasing.

This unusual scene left Gin and Tōsen bewildered. They couldn’t understand what was happening.

They had heard Gilgamesh’s earlier words.

However, they were not interested in human myths from the World of the Living.

To them, such myths were fabrications, not real.

If human myths were real, they, as Shinigami, would surely know.

Thus, Gin and Tōsen didn’t know about Odin or Gungnir.

The phrase “feel the power of mythology” spoken by Gilgamesh echoed in their minds.

The power of mythology? What kind of power is that?

While their thoughts raced, Gungnir closed in on Aizen.

Realizing he couldn’t escape and that the distance was closing, Aizen stopped evading.

He stood in the air, raised his hand towards Gungnir, and began to chant:

“Destruction of a bound world, child of heaven, wall of iron, dragon’s flight, lion’s roar, tiger’s howl, wolf’s run. Sever the heavens and the earth before they crumble. Bakudō #81: Dankū!”

As he finished, a massive transparent barrier appeared in front of him.

This barrier could completely defend against Hadō #89 and below.

When chanted by Aizen, it could even defend against Hadō #95 and below.

The next second, Gungnir arrived, striking the barrier.

Aizen expected a massive explosion, but it didn’t happen.

Crack!

The sound of shattering glass echoed, making Aizen’s pupils contract.

During the chase, Aizen had felt a sense of impending doom from Gungnir.

His intuition told him not to be struck by Gungnir.

Without hesitation, Aizen raised his hand and cast more Bakudō spells.

This time, he didn’t chant, as there was no time.

“Bakudō #81: Dankū!”

“Bakudō #63: Sajo Sabaku!”

“Bakudō #79: Kuyō Shibari!”

Aizen quickly cast three Bakudō spells.

The first was another Dankū barrier; the latter two were binding spells to restrain Gungnir.

Crack!

The first Dankū barrier shattered, and Gungnir crashed into the second.

With the help of Sajo Sabaku and Kuyō Shibari, the second Dankū barrier held, but it was still pierced.

Not only did the second barrier shatter, but the spearhead also pierced Aizen’s abdomen.

Before Aizen could catch his breath, Gungnir began to disintegrate into particles of light and vanished.

Frowning, Aizen instinctively looked at Gilgamesh.

Gin, Tōsen, and Yoruichi also turned their gazes to Gilgamesh.

In their eyes, a golden ripple appeared before Gilgamesh, and Gungnir slowly emerged again.

Silence.
