Daily Life in One Piece Chapter 30

Rejected

“What are you all staring at? Aren’t you supposed to be training? Everyone’s training is doubled today! No meals until you finish!”

Looking at those who had stopped their training, Zephyr felt today had been a mistake. He intended to discourage Mosen in front of everyone, hoping to motivate him to train more diligently.

Unexpectedly, it ended up demoralizing the recruits and instructors instead.

The recruits at the training camp varied: some were highly talented, some were selected from naval academies, and some were children of Marine officers. The instructors at the training camp were also of two types: retired or disabled Marine officers who volunteered to teach and active-duty Vice Admirals who taught certain subjects part-time.

For example, Vice Admirals Momonga, Onigumo, and Dalmatian taught swordsmanship and physical training. Shuzo was an exception.

The training ground was filled with groans before the recruits resumed their intense training. Half a year of training had taught them how terrifying Zephyr could be. Failing to complete their training could be deadly.

Zephyr ignored the recruits who had resumed their training and glanced at Mosen, still lying on the ground pretending to be dead. Zephyr’s mouth twitched, and he almost wanted to kick him.

“Alright, kid, stop pretending to be severely injured. Get up and follow me. Isn’t it embarrassing to lie there with everyone watching?”

Mosen grumbled, reluctant to get up. He felt utterly humiliated—beaten by the chief instructor in front of most of his future teammates. As the self-proclaimed “handsomest Marine,” he couldn’t believe this had happened. Why did these bastards always aim for the face? It was blatant jealousy of his unparalleled good looks!

When he was stronger, he’d pay back everyone who dared to mar his beautiful face. He’d written their names down—no one would escape.

Sensing through Observation Haki that Zephyr was about to kick him, Mosen quickly scrambled up and darted to the gate of the training ground.

This was ridiculous! Bullying the weak? Uncle can bear it… but little Mosen can’t! He couldn’t win, but he could run!

Seeing Mosen sneakily peeking from the gate, Zephyr, for the first time in his life, wondered if trying to take on another disciple was a mistake.

In the office of the chief instructor of the Marine training camp, Zephyr called Shuzo.

“Shuzo, arrange the kid’s accommodations and get the medical and nutrition team to quickly come up with a plan to repair the damage to his body. I hope to cultivate another Admiral-level talent. The future of the Navy lies with them.”

Shuzo understood Zephyr’s situation. Nearly twenty years had passed since his family’s death. Zephyr had remained in the training camp not only to uphold justice but also because he could nurture Marine heroes there. The stronger the Navy, the fewer the pirates he hated.

Since Aokiji had become an Admiral, Zephyr had not seen such an outstanding talent in over a decade. This was why he was so invested in Mosen. Their similar tragic experiences might also have played a role.

Training a new Admiral could change the Navy’s future.

“Yes, teacher. Rest assured, I’ll handle everything immediately.”

Shuzo had always admired Zephyr. His willingness to resign from his post to assist Zephyr at the training camp showed his deep respect and affection. Thus, he consistently executed Zephyr’s orders without question.

When Shuzo and a veteran found Mosen, he mingled with the research staff, bombarding them with questions.

“Hey, researcher, do you know a way to make the swelling on my face go down faster?”

“What? Really? Do you have a product I can try? Will it leave any side effects? Will it affect my handsome face?”

Seeing the researcher ignore him, Mosen turned to another.

“Hey, researcher who’s almost one-tenth as handsome as me, do you know how to make me even more handsome after the swelling goes down? Will using this ice affect my future good looks? Hey, don’t walk away!”

Seriously, why walk away? Saying you’re one-tenth as handsome as me is a compliment. With one-tenth of my looks, you could be the star of the headquarters.

Shuzo’s face darkened, though it was hard to tell because it was already dark.

What the hell is this? This is the monster with Admiral potential?

This isn’t a monster; it’s a freak.

The researchers didn’t want to deal with him but didn’t dare offend this future star of the headquarters, so they just ignored him.

Mosen was about to find another researcher to chat with when he suddenly noticed a large, dark face in front of him. Startled, he almost threw a punch.

Shuzo quickly realized this kid was trouble. He had seen him earlier but still pretended to be startled, ready to punch him in the face. The punch would have landed if not for Shuzo’s Observation Haki and Armament Haki.

Taking a deep breath, Shuzo reminded himself to stay calm. This kid might soon become his teacher’s disciple and, before long, someone he couldn’t defeat.

Mosen felt a bit awkward. He had intended to give Zephyr’s loyal fan a taste of his own medicine but realized the guy had Observation Haki and Armament Haki.

He locked eyes with Shuzo, confirming he couldn’t win this fight. Sorry, my bad!

“Mosen recruit, this is a logistics officer. He will help you collect all necessary items for the recruit camp. All your belongings, except for your sword, must be stored with the logistics department. You can retrieve them after graduation.”

Shuzo decided to get rid of the kid quickly. Otherwise, he might punch his nearly recovered swollen face a few more times.

“Also, after you collect your items, you’ll be assigned a dormitory. Get along with your roommates; they’ll be your loyal comrades. Now, go!”

Shuzo waved dismissively, pretending not to see Mosen’s eager questions. Hurry up, I’m swamped and didn’t see anything.

Mosen felt helpless. This guy was petty. He hadn’t even hit him.

Turning, Mosen saw a veteran, who looked about 60, with only one leg and a crutch, standing barely over five feet tall.

Mosen quickly approached to help the veteran, only to be brushed aside with the crutch.

“You cheeky brat, save your pity. I’m not some decrepit old man who can’t walk!”

The veteran turned, motioning for Mosen to follow.
