Daily Life in One Piece Chapter 33

The New Training Plan

Chief Instructor’s Office
Zeff listened to Shuzo’s report with a look of exasperation and thought for a few seconds.

“You did the right thing. Confining him for three days is appropriate. Sparring among teammates is fine, but damaging public property is not.”

It wasn’t a big deal, but Zeff didn’t dwell on it. However, Shuzo seemed quite troubled by Mosen. Having such a troublemaker would undoubtedly keep him busy.

“The basic training in the recruit camp is almost complete. We can start the practical combat training now. Only real battles on the high seas can produce true warriors.”

Zeff’s recruit camp wasn’t just about training muscle-bound fighters. While physical strength was crucial in this era, so were naval command and tactical deployment.

Why did the Marines often have overwhelming victories against pirates? It was because of their sturdy ships and powerful cannons. Naval battles were all about firepower. The fight was decisively one-sided; if one could sink the enemy ship from a thousand meters away, the enemy couldn’t hit back effectively. Unless, of course, the enemy had some bug-level powerhouse on board.

Thus, while the recruit camp was a place for training strong warriors, it also needed wise strategists like how Captain Jonathan of the G-8 base effortlessly captured the Straw Hat Pirates with his tactical acumen. They might have met their end there without the protagonist’s plot armour.

Jonathan was a contemporary of Akainu in the recruit camp. While his combat prowess was likely formidable, his strategic skills set him apart. The recruit camp’s first six months focused on various skills training. The latter six months were about combining sea combat with base training.

“Yes, sir. We’ve already identified a pirate crew from the North Blue currently in the Grand Line. Once we pinpoint their location, we can proceed with the combat training,” Shuzo reported.

Shuzo’s presence greatly relieved Zeff of many tasks. Without him, gaps in the training and guidance might have emerged.

“I trust you with these matters, Shuzo. You’ve been a great help,” Zeff acknowledged.

“Not at all, sir. It’s my duty as your student to share your burdens,” Shuzo replied, clearly moved, though his dark face didn’t show it.

Confinement Room

Mosen lay contentedly on his bed. He was amazed by the exciting stories from the main base. The high-ranking admirals and vice admirals, who seemed so lofty and reserved, were quite different.

Who would have thought that a Marine vice admiral, known for his swordsmanship, enjoyed stripping his opponents during battles? No wonder he was still single at nearly 40.

Mosen sighed. It was a pity alcohol was not allowed in the recruit camp. He wasn’t fond of wine or spirits in his previous life but loved beer, having lived in a region famous for it.

Bang! The small window on the iron door opened.

“Dinner time.”

Mosen was surprised by the decent quality of the food. It was much better than what he had in his previous base, understandable given that this was the elite training camp.

He quickly devoured everything, including a fish fillet with bones.

“Hey, can I get another serving?” Mosen called out, shocking the soldier who was distributing the meals.

Another large serving was handed over, and Mosen ate it just as quickly.

“One more!”

His cellmate, Road Renga, was nearly in tears. “Boss, that last serving was supposed to be mine.”

The soldier sighed, exasperated. The meticulously planned meal portions had been disrupted, and he would have to make another trip.

After five servings, Mosen finally felt full, oblivious to the murderous glare of the soldier outside.

Three Days Later

The seven inmates of Dormitory 208 were finally released. Mosen noticed the dazed expressions of his companions, clearly affected by the confinement. However, Mosen felt invigorated after using the time for physical training and resting.

The only problem was that he hadn’t bathed in three days. He rushed back to the dorm for a shower and a change of clothes, ignoring his cellmates.

“Mosen, Instructor Shuzo wants to see you in his office!”

“Got it…” Mosen called back as he hurried off.

In Shuzo’s office, Mosen had changed into a fresh recruit camp uniform, though he disliked the blue scarf that came with it.

“Instructor Shuzo, did you call me to apologize for the confinement being too harsh? It’s okay, I don’t mind. You didn’t have to call me for that,” Mosen said cheekily.

Shuzo felt an urge to punch Mosen. Why did he always want to turn his face into a punching bag?

“I should have confined you for half a month. Three days was lenient,” Shuzo muttered to himself before handing Mosen a document.

“This is a new training plan tailored for you by our medical and research staff, based on your physical condition and training habits,” Shuzo explained.

“Chief Instructor Zeff has instructed that you must undergo weekly medical check-ups until you are completely recovered from your previous overtraining injuries. And you must strictly follow this new training plan without adding extra hours.”

Mosen took the plan, rolling his eyes internally. He had no intention of overtraining anymore. With a proper plan, he didn’t need to push himself to the brink.

“Thank you, Instructor. I understand.”

Mosen wasn’t ungrateful. Zeff and Shuzo, who had no personal ties to him, went out of their way to help, and he appreciated their efforts.

His eyes fell on the first line of the training plan:

“Daily sleep must not be less than 8 hours!”
