The next morning, the same day the news was released, Mosen reported to Garp and began his week-long vacation. As a Marine Headquarters captain, his duties were relatively light unless stationed at an external base or out hunting pirates. Especially since he was with Garp, who often stayed at headquarters due to Sengoku being the only admiral, Mosen had plenty of free time.
Marine School
The Marine School was currently on break, but since Webster and some of his classmates were orphans with nowhere to go, they stayed at the school for easier supervision. The school was not small and occupied a significant area within Marine Headquarters, larger than the recruit training camp. This was understandable given its role in educating the children of headquarters personnel, government officials, and other ranks.
The school’s role wasn’t solely to train students in combat skills. Many children of officials without combat talents would study academic subjects, eventually graduating to administrative positions in headquarters or branch offices. Those talented enough might work for the World Government. Unlike pirates, the Marine Corps, a long-standing law enforcement institution, had a well-established system for training and developing talent.
The school’s large playground had only a few people. During the break, only these orphans remained. With most facilities closed for the break, the dozen or so children carried out their activities on the playground. Thankfully, the school kept a small cafeteria open, ensuring the children didn’t go hungry.
No instructors were present on the playground; only a retired old soldier was overseeing the kids. In the sunlight, a group of children exercised diligently, understanding that their skills were the key to survival, unlike the children of many officials who could afford to be lackadaisical.
In a secluded corner, Wenster was practising alone with a girl about his age. The girl was tall and slender, slightly taller than Wenster, who had just started to grow. Her long black hair was tied into a ponytail, and her face was both pretty and determined.
Both held wooden swords, showing considerable skill. Webster, diligently following Mosen’s training regimen for six months, was noticeably stronger and no longer looked frail.
Their wooden swords clashed rhythmically, producing sharp sounds as they moved swiftly, their bodies following the movements of their swords. Even those unfamiliar with swordsmanship could see they had achieved considerable skill.
With a final clash, they separated, both panting heavily.
“We should take a break, Webster. You’re improving so quickly; I can barely keep up,” said the girl sitting beside him.
Webster replied earnestly, “My strength has improved recently, so my swordsmanship has strengthened, but my technique hasn’t changed. You’ve improved a lot too, Leif.”
Webster had become much more outgoing over the past six months, thanks to his interactions with Leif. Indeed, a girl can heal a boy’s wounds better than anything else.
Leif laughed softly. Webster never beat around the bush; even when complimented, he explained himself. “My swordsmanship still has a long way to go. I wonder when I can become a world-famous swordsman,” she said, eyes filled with longing. Every aspiring swordsman dreams of becoming a great swordsman.
“Keep training hard, and that day will come,” Webster replied, his eyes sharp and determined.
Leif nodded in agreement. This shared determination was what brought them close at school.
“Well, well, Wenster, there you are! I had to look everywhere for you. Is this a date?” a voice suddenly said behind them, startling the pair. They jumped up and turned to face the speaker.
It was, of course, Mosen, ever the playful one. He had visited Webster once before but hadn’t found him at school. After a brief meal together, he had left. This time, after asking the retired soldier guarding the school, he found them.
What he hadn’t expected was to witness this scene, which left him feeling a bit jealous.
Why was it that despite his good looks, he still hadn’t found a girl to be with?
Mosen felt like he must have the wrong script. He seemed to be the main character, yet it felt like he was just a side character. Apart from his unparalleled looks, strength, and intelligence, he still didn’t have a girlfriend.
He gave up. Entering a sage mode, he decided to let things be.
Webster and Leif, recovering from their shock, saw Mosen standing there. Today, he wore a white floral shirt, grey casual shorts, and high-top boots resembling crocodile leather. He had the paper kite at his waist, his justice cape billowing behind him. The sunlight made him look like a divine being.
Leif, who had never seen such a handsome man before, was starstruck, her eyes turning into hearts, and even drooled a bit, which improved Mosen’s mood considerably.
Webster felt like covering his face. Did his brother need to show off so much just to visit him? A captain… a captain!
“Did you come here just to show off, you annoying brother?” Webster said, a mixture of warmth and annoyance in his voice.
Bang! A bump appeared on Wenster’s head.
“Respect your elder brother, dear brother. Aren’t you going to introduce this lovely girl?” Mosen said, smirking. To him, any pretty girl who liked him was cute.
Leif finally snapped out of her daze, blushing deeply and feeling flustered in front of Mosen.
Webster, feeling a bit exasperated at his friend’s reaction, introduced them. “This is Leif, my classmate. This is my brother, Mosen.”
Leif stammered, “Hello, Mosen. Wenster, this is Mosen? The prodigy from the recruit camp? I can’t believe he’s your brother!”
Ding, your little fan has logged in.
Webster felt even more exasperated. Their teachers had constantly talked about Mosen’s feats. He had never mentioned Mosen at school, fearing this exact reaction. Now, his friend seemed to have lost her mind upon meeting his brother.
