Time flew by.
In the blink of an eye, a full year had passed since Lin Chuan’s battle with Champa, where he broke into the realm of Autonomous Ultra Instinct.
During this year, aside from briefly returning to Earth in Universe 7 to handle some minor matters and explain the situation to Bulma, Android 18, and the others, Lin Chuan had remained training in the God of Destruction Realm of Universe 6.
Of course, he’d occasionally return home, he wasn’t a saint, after all.
Especially over six months ago, for his daughter’s first birthday, Lin Chuan even brought Champa and Vados back with him for several days.
You might ask: since he stayed in Universe 6 to train, does that mean he accepted Vados’s legacy?
No!
Lin Chuan didn’t directly accept Vados’s legacy or embark on the path of becoming an Angel-in-training. Instead, he made three agreements with her:
Vados couldn’t secretly manipulate or interfere with his training in any way.
He could train in Universe 6’s God of Destruction Realm, and while he would accept her guidance, he would never accept forced instruction.
He needed time to explore and break through his own limits. Even if becoming an Angel would make him stronger, that path wasn’t one he was willing to take yet.
Vados agreed, but with her own condition:
Ten years. That was her limit.
If, after ten years, Lin Chuan still couldn’t break the rules and bring her greater surprises, then he would have no right to refuse becoming her successor.
Truth be told, Lin Chuan was actually quite pleased.
After all, this was an Angel placing her hopes on him, and giving him more room to choose.
Where else in the universe would you find such a generous deal?
It was the best of both worlds.
Lin Chuan couldn’t understand why Vados cared so much about him, it even felt selfless.
If he didn’t already know the basic story and possible endings of the Dragon Ball universe, he might’ve suspected some grand conspiracy.
Today marked the exact one-year anniversary.
Just as Lin Chuan ended his meditative training and began to contemplate deeper insights into Ultra Instinct, a massive disturbance erupted nearby.
Two fierce energies clashed violently.
“Those two… ever since they followed me here over six months ago, they’ve been fighting every few days, and each time, it’s more intense.” Lin Chuan shook his head and stood up.
Six months ago, during his daughter’s birthday celebration, Lin Chuan had invited all his friends and family.
Naturally, Vegeta and Piccolo came with their families.
The only ones absent were Goku and Raditz, who were not on Earth at the time.
It was then that Goku and Raditz learned of Lin Chuan’s whereabouts and immediately asked Vados and Champa to let them follow Lin Chuan to train.
Lin Chuan didn’t object.
But what surprised him was how direct, and forceful, Vegeta and Piccolo had been with their requests.
Even more unexpected, Vados approved them on the spot, and Whis didn’t object. In fact, he seemed to enjoy the outcome.
In the original timeline, Vegeta had proactively asked Whis to be his master and was taken to Universe 7’s God of Destruction Realm to train.
So training there wasn’t shocking.
But going to Universe 6 was a different story.
Whis clearly had complete trust.
After all, unlike Vegeta and Piccolo, Lin Chuan was chosen by Vados as a potential successor, hence his unique privileges.
Otherwise, how could he be allowed to stay in Universe 6’s God Realm?
At the time, Lin Chuan could only assume that due to various coincidences and primarily his influence, Vegeta and Piccolo were accepted, and even Champa couldn’t object.
Later, Lin Chuan learned the truth: Vegeta and Piccolo were essentially test subjects.
Vados and Whis wanted to see what would happen if they cultivated another Saiyan, could he match Lin Chuan’s absurd talent?
As for Piccolo, he was training in Dragon God power, and they wanted to observe how far he could take it.
Lin Chuan walked leisurely toward the source of the clash.
In the sky above, Vegeta and Piccolo were exchanging blows in a fierce melee.
Though still in their base forms, their battle was overwhelming in scale and power.
Since exiting the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, their power had skyrocketed tens of thousands of times.
Though Vegeta had surged in power after his fight with Lin Chuan and grew even stronger over the following months, he still hadn’t matched Piccolo, until now.
Since arriving in Universe 6’s God Realm, Vegeta’s growth had brought him neck-and-neck with Piccolo.
It proved just how gifted Vegeta was, give him the right tools, and he could work miracles.
But, actually, if it were Goku and Raditz in the same situation, they would’ve achieved it too.
However, the two had been training in the Other World with King Kai, taking a different path.
Currently, both Vegeta and Piccolo’s base form power had reached the late stage of the sixth dimensional level.
Their combat power hovered around 5000 quadrillion. If they transformed into Super Saiyan 4 or Orange Piccolo, they could reach the late stage of the seventh dimension.
And all this, in just six months.
Vegeta had improved the most. Back then, his strength barely reached the hundreds of billions after fighting Lin Chuan. A few months later, he broke into the trillions.
Meanwhile, Piccolo had already reached the quadrillion level after exiting the Time Chamber, and within six months, soared to hundreds of quadrillions.
“Oh~ Little Lin Chuan is here? Looks like your meditation has ended. So? Any new insights? …Well, never mind. This isn’t the time. Tell me, who do you think will win, Vegeta or Piccolo?” Vados teased as soon as she noticed him.
Lin Chuan smiled wryly. “How many times have I told you? Can you not call me ‘Little Lin Chuan’?”
“But to me, you really are little! Barely in your thirties! Puhuhu~” Vados chuckled behind her hand.
Lin Chuan was already used to this by now.
She was an Angel, powerful beyond imagination, and treated him so well, he didn’t have the heart to get angry.
“By the way, where’s Champa? I can’t sense his presence. Off goofing around again?” Lin Chuan looked around.
The past half-year had been rough on Champa.
But it also gave him purpose.
The chaos from Vegeta and Piccolo’s battles constantly woke him from his beauty sleep.
Still, it wasn’t all bad, he rediscovered his sense of existence.
He couldn’t vent on Lin Chuan, but he could take it out on others.
Whenever his temper flared or he felt itchy to fight, Vegeta and Piccolo became his sparring partners.
They couldn’t resist, and neither Vados nor Lin Chuan stopped him.
After all, it was a kind of training.
The more pressure they felt, the more they understood how far they still had to go.
“You know Lord Champa can’t handle the pain of training. He was supposed to descend to the lower realms with me, but since I was worried about all of you, I asked Supreme Kai Fuwa to accompany him instead,” Vados explained with a playful sigh, as if accusing Lin Chuan of not appreciating her dedication.
Or perhaps it was more of a woman’s complaint toward a man.
[You little minx…] Lin Chuan thought. For him, it was torture.
This Angel teased him constantly, sometimes verbally, sometimes physically.
At her worst, she made him feel like he was soaring to the heavens, then immediately plummeting into the abyss.
Ignoring her banter, Lin Chuan looked up.
The battle between Vegeta and Piccolo had grown even fiercer.
Though their fighting styles differed, there was a striking similarity between them.
Vegeta’s royal technique had become far more refined, his improvements were unmatched.
Piccolo used a 70% offense, 30% defense strategy.
Their battle raged on for half an hour before they finally landed, exhausted.
Once again, it was a draw, like many of their recent fights.
Over the past six months, Piccolo had still won more matches overall. Vegeta had only recently caught up.
“Looks like it’s another tie,” Vados said with a smile, glancing at them differently. “At this pace, you’ll both soon reach the pinnacle of this dimension. But between the two, Vegeta seems even more relentless.”
Piccolo hesitated.
Not just now, he’d been uncertain about the future for a while.
“Hmph! I’ve already given everything, just to become stronger!!” Vegeta snapped, his tone defiant even toward an Angel.
Piccolo said nothing.
Unlike Vegeta, he believed his path was one he had to walk alone.
Lin Chuan had always forged the way ahead. The others merely followed behind, they didn’t need to explore uncharted ground.
But Piccolo was different. His future would be one only he could create.
In that way, he believed he and Lin Chuan were alike.
He didn’t realize that Lin Chuan had it easier.
As a transmigrator who knew the original story, Lin Chuan had a clear goal, and progressed quickly.
Even though he worked hard, he still had direction.
Only once Lin Chuan surpassed the known canon would his path truly become uncertain, like Piccolo’s.
Lin Chuan saw through Piccolo’s thoughts but said nothing.
That was the nature of training.
Still, a few words of encouragement or sharing insights wouldn’t hurt.
Piccolo and Vegeta’s rapid progress had helped Lin Chuan’s own enlightenment. He was inspired by their growth too.
In a group of three, one can always learn from another.
Even if they weren’t as strong as him, they still had qualities worth learning from.
After chatting a bit, the three enjoyed a hearty meal prepared by Vados.
Piccolo, who had previously only consumed water, had started accepting small portions of food. Though he didn’t eat much, it was a change.
Just as they were dining, Vados’s Angel staff received a message from Whis in Universe 7.
Upon reading it, she was visibly shocked.
She quickly relayed the news to Lin Chuan, Vegeta, and Piccolo.
Lin Chuan wasn’t surprised. After all, Goku and Raditz had been using the complete divine training method he passed on.
That it took them this long to succeed was already a bit slow.
Goku and Raditz had become gods!
Lin Chuan remained calm, but Vegeta and Piccolo were visibly shaken.
Especially Vegeta. Only after learning about the Super Saiyan God transformation did he realize, there was still another path.
His resentment toward Goku and Raditz deepened.
They had once trained together, but then the two left for their own path and left him behind. He resented them deeply for it.
Luckily, he seized the opportunity to follow Lin Chuan and train here.
Though the past six months were harsh, he now found Piccolo and Lin Chuan more comfortable companions.
Unlike before, when he found Piccolo hateful and Lin Chuan infuriating, now, that had changed.
“Hmph! According to Talos, the Super Saiyan God transformation isn’t even that much stronger than Super Saiyan 4. So Goku and Raditz, those two fools, aren’t that impressive,” Vegeta scoffed.
He ignored the fact that he’d trained in the Time Chamber for three full years.
“We don’t know how strong they are now,” Piccolo added. “But judging by their power from a year and a half ago… even if they’ve become gods now, they’re probably not that big a deal to us.”
Both had their own judgments, and both felt that Goku and Raditz were no longer part of their team.
“Maybe. We should head back soon, it’s been two months,” Lin Chuan said.
But not yet.
Goku and Raditz becoming gods wasn’t enough to ignite his fighting spirit.
But perhaps Vegeta and Piccolo might want to test them.
“Hmph! You’re just giving them time to enter the Time Chamber and train, aren’t you?” Vegeta accused.
Lin Chuan just smiled. Piccolo also realized it.
“Letting them grow stronger makes it more fun. Otherwise, it’s just boring.”
