The pickup truck, loaded with weapons and equipment, drove out of San Francisco.
Bella was driving, while Agent 006 sat in the passenger seat, occasionally glancing at the truck’s exterior.
The more he looked, the more familiar it seemed. It reminded him of a pickup he almost got hit by while delivering in Phoenix. Could this be the same vehicle? He couldn’t be sure, and he didn’t dare ask.
With nothing else to do, he sneaked glances at the rearview mirror, noticing that the former agent, now a ghost, wasn’t messing with ropes, nails, or claws. Instead, she had her hair tied up and was fiddling with a sniper rifle.
Honestly, this scene didn’t fit his preconceived notions. Do ghosts in the modern era use firearms now?
“Don’t worry,” Bella reassured him, noticing his doubts. “Xiao is a bit special. I’m sure you’ll be a normal ghost when you die.”
Is that what I’m worried about? Agent 006’s voice was dry: “Let’s continue talking about my wife and daughter.”
Silent Hill in West Virginia was an abandoned town. According to official records, a fire swept through the town in November 1974, igniting the underground coal mines. Toxic gases filled the underground, and thick, deadly smoke often seeped through the ground, making the town uninhabitable.
Local police had set up checkpoints on the roads leading in and out of Silent Hill to prevent unsuspecting visitors from entering.
This clearly showed that the authorities were aware of Silent Hill’s dangers but chose the most conservative approach.
The pickup truck activated its full ghost mode, making 006 feel like he was plunged into an ice cave, his brain freezing. In a trance, they passed through the police blockade and entered the town.
The town was deserted, with traces of the past fire visible everywhere. The brown-black roads were covered in a thick layer of ash. The tires crushed it, scattering snowflake-like dust. Charred buildings stood scattered around, their dark doorways and windows resembling the gaping maws of monsters.
006 pointed at the road ahead: “I came here yesterday, entering from the western entrance. Use your mysterious power; my wife must be nearby! But I can’t see her!”
His voice involuntarily lowered, unsure if it was intentional or if the town was absorbing his voice. The sound traveled less than two meters before dissipating, with an invisible silence enveloping the pickup as if they were prey in a trap.
Bella said nothing, carefully observing the surroundings.
The fame of Silent Hill’s real world, outer world, and inner world was immense. Even people who didn’t follow such movies should know these terms.
Watching a movie was one thing, but experiencing it firsthand through a psychic perspective was another.
“Impressive!” Bella and 006 were still in the real world. With her abilities, she could only faintly see traces of the outer world. The inner world was completely invisible.
Even in the outer world, she saw various forces mixed within—ancestral spirits of the Native Americans, church faith, some magic, voodoo curses, psychic manifestations, and demonic power, but mostly negative emotions.
Like tides, these negative emotions gathered various supernatural energies, using the real town as a foundation and evil thoughts as fuel to create an interlayer space filled with endless nightmares outside the real town.
Entering the outer world wasn’t difficult for Bella. The challenge was getting out.
“Once we go in, can you find a way out?” she asked Xiao, who was enthusiastically playing with the gun.
“Sending me home?” Even the ghost wasn’t very sure this time.
006 looked at her nervously, afraid she would back out.
Bella thought about the plot. How did Sharon escape in the original timeline? It was because her mother, 006’s wife Rose, stole a piece of the Seal of Metatron, sending her daughter back to the real world.
Metatron! Just the name suggested great power!
Bella’s study of the Forty-Two Chapters wasn’t in vain. She knew Metatron’s deeds well. This figure reportedly lived 365 years before dying and becoming a Seraph. He was considered the Chancellor of Heaven and the highest-ranking angel near the throne.
However, he was a Jewish angel, not a Christian one, considered a high-ranking official by some ancient Jewish texts. They believed Metatron’s status was above Jesus, which Christianity firmly denied.
In reality, Judaism and Christianity together weren’t even comparable to a younger brother, but they were ancient! The specific power level of Metatron, the Seraph, was hard for Bella to judge. She only knew to stay away as much as possible.
She took out the remaining helm from the Flying Dutchman. It had absorbed a lot of ghostly energy from the haunted house. After detaching it from her wrist, it grew from the size of a fingernail to that of a basin.
Bella removed the pickup’s steering wheel and replaced it with the helm.
Xiao: “???”
Bella tore at the air, and thick dust from the outer world began to seep into the real world through the crack.
A void appeared, seemingly leading to another world. This sight challenged 006’s worldview, but he gritted his teeth and stood firm.
Ignoring his reaction, Bella asked Xiao again: “Now, if we go, can we come back?”
With the Flying Dutchman’s helm, Xiao was more confident: “Send me home!”
Bella understood. It meant, OK! They could do it!
“Get in! Mr. Eric, prepare for combat. I’m going to forcefully break through the barrier, which will definitely alert the other side.” She signaled 006 to get in, then began widening the gap between the two worlds.
Bella concentrated her psychic power to the maximum, using her will to cover the interlayer space barrier of Silent Hill’s outer world.
She didn’t need to cover the whole barrier, just a small part of the edge.
A light gray world gradually appeared before them. When the gap was large enough, Bella jumped into the truck, hit the gas, and charged into the outer world of Silent Hill.
The lead-gray sky in the outer world of Silent Hill blocked most sunlight, leaving the surroundings dead silent, true to its name—only silence remained.
The pickup forcibly drove over broken, rusted barbed wire, entering a narrow alley instead of the road.
