Having once been trapped and beaten by over a hundred miners in a narrow alley, Agent 006 despised this kind of terrain, urging Bella to drive out quickly.
Bella also felt the environment wasn’t suitable for a fight and stepped on the gas to speed away.
Just ten meters out, a human-sized, faceless, armless, and skinless creature wrapped in what looked like layers of plastic wrap stumbled out of the shadows.
This creature, wrapped in plastic, barely resembled a human. There was no way it had emerged from hiding to welcome the three of them.
Despite having no mouth or eyes, the creature seemed to see the pickup and hobbled towards them.
What did it want? Who knew?
If it were an ordinary girl, she would be screaming hysterically by now. But Bella remained calm, saying casually, “Let’s see your shooting skills.”
When it came to dealing with ghosts and monsters, 006 wasn’t great, but shooting? He had trained hard for twenty years!
Still somewhat puzzled, he asked, “Do I just shoot it? No spells or anything?”
Bella remained composed: “Trust in science! It’s the age of science! Just shoot. Whenever you see something that doesn’t fit your worldview, shooting it is always the right move!”
You don’t fit my worldview! Agent 006 thought, but he didn’t dare say it aloud.
Trained rigorously by MI6, he was older but his basic skills were still sharp.
His shooting skills were excellent. Extending his arm out of the car window, he hesitated—where should he aim at such a bizarre creature?
Not wanting to appear ignorant, he aimed his M1911 at what he assumed was the creature’s head and fired repeatedly.
The bullets penetrated like they were hitting a water balloon, spurting dark green fluid everywhere.
The creature’s abdomen seemed to emit some sort of wailing, like a baby or perhaps some wild animal. Bella didn’t plan to investigate; she just wanted to shoot it dead.
The pickup emerged from the alley, and Silent Hill’s outer world gradually revealed itself to the three.
“That’s Rose’s car!” Agent 006 suddenly exclaimed, pointing to a Jeep on the roadside.
They got out and circled the Jeep.
The doors were open, and the interior was empty. There were faint bloodstains on the driver’s seat and steering wheel and some scattered, doodle-like paintings on the back seat.
They looked into the distance.
Dense fog filled their vision, with the town’s buildings barely visible. Staring directly into the fog’s center felt like being drawn into a giant vortex.
The sky seemed to snow down specks of ash, which felt slightly hot on the skin. Wiping it off, they saw it was coarse, blackish-gray particles.
“Rose! Where are you? Rose! Sharon!” 006 cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted.
The sound traveled even less here than in the real world. Some force was limiting the sound’s range.
Bella waved to the pickup, and Xiao, understanding her signal, handed over a pink, cartoon-shaped megaphone. Heather had left it in the car after a fencing competition a few days ago, and now Bella passed it to 006.
“Shouting won’t help much. Use this.”
006 dumbly took the megaphone. It was more of a children’s toy than a serious tool.
To save his wife and daughter, he would endure any humiliation. A megaphone was nothing, so he turned it on and began shouting: “Sharon! Rose!”
The sound still didn’t travel far, maybe thirty to fifty meters in diameter. Bella listened carefully for any responses. If someone answered, they could go and rescue them.
But after listening for a while, all she heard was 006’s voice, with no reply.
“Don’t lose hope. Let’s search deeper into the town.” Bella respected Rose a lot. A defenseless woman, in such a dangerous place like Silent Hill, ran from east to west, north to south, and eventually sacrificed herself to save her daughter.
Her self-destructive determination was strong, but so was her genuine motherly love.
Bella recorded 006’s calls with the megaphone’s recording function and set it to loop on the car.
With the recorded shouts of “Sharon, where are you? Rose! Sharon!” playing, the silver-gray pickup drove slowly into the town like a street vendor.
Shouting himself didn’t feel awkward, but listening to his own voice on a loop made 006 feel incredibly embarrassed.
The awkwardness was indescribable, but he couldn’t say Bella’s method was bad. It just felt like the tension was gone.
Bella didn’t care about the atmosphere. With a shotgun at her feet, she kept observing, trying to find clues in the surroundings.
She knew about the church and remembered the plot, but the goal was to rescue Rose and Sharon, not wage war against cultists. If she could rescue the mother and daughter, the church’s affairs were optional.
“Left, that road!”
“Send me home.”
The ghost and human pointed simultaneously. Professionally trained, 006 was better at tracking than Bella, a novice detective. The pickup followed the trail to a dilapidated school.
Bella turned to Xiao: “Can you get us inside?”
The ghost shook her head: “Send me home.”
“So that means no? This environment suppresses even a ghost’s abilities. Alright, Xiao, you guard outside. Mr. Eric, let’s go find them.”
Bella carried a famous M79 grenade launcher, held an M4 carbine, and had a Beretta 92F tucked at her back. She wore a U.S. military tactical vest, tied her hair into a ponytail, and kicked open the school gate in a relatively standard combat stance. She then entered the campus quickly, with 006, also heavily armed, following close behind.
It looked less like they were dealing with a supernatural event and more like they were on an anti-terrorism mission!
006 found this bizarre, but he wasn’t nervous anymore. Enemies that could be dealt with using firearms weren’t truly enemies in his eyes.
“I always thought you’d be more mysterious,” he said to Bella, somewhat bemused.
Bella rolled her eyes but didn’t respond.
Why use magic when you can use guns? Wouldn’t that be stupid?
