Magneto wanted Hawking and Apocalypse to fight to the death so he could reap the benefits. Nick Fury wanted the mutants to fight to the death so he could reap the benefits.
Now that he had killed Apocalypse and been captured by Magneto, Nick Fury wouldn’t just sit back and watch. He would definitely send Captain Marvel to deal with Magneto.
So, it was time for Hawking to watch the battle between Captain Marvel and Magneto leisurely. Once they had exhausted each other, he would step in and finish things off.
Sure enough, about ten minutes later, a glowing figure flew in at high speed from a distance, landing in front of Magneto.
It was this universe’s black Captain Marvel, Maria Rambeau.
“Magneto, you can’t beat me. Surrender now while you still can.”
She had fought Magneto before and knew his level. He was no match for her.
But Magneto wasn’t surprised to see Captain Marvel. He had been waiting for her. Defeating her meant no one could stop him.
“You think I’m still the same as before?”
Magneto activated his powers, gathering a massive amount of metal around him. With a wave of his hand, the metal shot towards Captain Marvel like a barrage of meteors.
Having been strengthened by Apocalypse, his abilities had significantly improved. He was confident he could now defeat Captain Marvel, and he wasn’t alone.
Captain Marvel’s body glowed with energy as the metal approached, and she charged head-on. She could punch through Kree warships, so she wasn’t afraid of Magneto’s metal.
But when she collided with the metal, her expression changed.
Compared to their previous battle, the force behind Magneto’s metal attacks was much stronger. Even she couldn’t break through immediately.
Furthermore, upon contact, the metal transformed into a stream that wrapped around her like a snake.
If it were just physical restraints, she could have easily blasted them away with her energy. But it wasn’t that simple. In addition to the physical bindings, a strong magnetic field enveloped her, restricting her movements.
“It’s useless. I knew you would come, so I prepared for this. Blame your husband, Nick Fury. He’s too selfish. If he had sent you and Hawking together, you might have defeated Apocalypse, and I couldn’t handle both of you at once. But this was expected. Selfishness is human nature.”
Magneto used his metal and magnetic powers to pin Captain Marvel to the ground, but it was clear he wasn’t having an easy time. Sweat began to form on his forehead.
Captain Marvel’s strength was immense. Even with his enhanced powers, maintaining this hold was exhausting.
Captain Marvel realized this, too, and continued to unleash her energy, trying to break free.
“Magneto, you won’t last. My energy is limitless. I will break free.”
Though restrained, her internal energy shielded her, preventing Magneto from killing her. It was a stalemate, but she believed she could outlast him.
Magneto laughed.
“You’re too naive. Raven, it’s your turn!”
Satisfied that he had Captain Marvel restrained, Magneto called out to Mystique.
Mystique walked over to Captain Marvel, transforming into Professor X.
“Stop resisting, stop resisting.”
Using Professor X’s mental abilities, Mystique launched a powerful mental assault on Captain Marvel, forcing her to stop resisting and retract her energy.
Enhanced by Apocalypse, Mystique could transform into anyone and gain their powers if that person was a mutant. Although her abilities were weaker than the original, they were still significant.
Under Mystique’s mental control, Captain Marvel’s energy began to fluctuate.
Once she retracted her energy, Magneto could kill her.
“How long to make her retract her energy?”
Seeing Captain Marvel’s continued resistance, Magneto frowned and asked.
Mystique replied while continuing her mental assault.
“Her will is strong. With my current abilities, it will take at least half an hour to control her enough to retract her energy.”
“Half an hour, fine.”
With Mystique’s mental control, Captain Marvel’s struggle weakened. Magneto felt he could hold on for another half hour.
Hawking, pretending to be powerless, overheard their conversation with his enhanced senses.
“I’ll wait for your half hour.”
Seeing the stalemate between Captain Marvel and Magneto, Hawking originally planned to break his restraints and attack Magneto. But after hearing their conversation, he changed his mind.
Attacking now might save Captain Marvel, but she wasn’t on his side. Who knew if she would help him afterward? It was better to wait until both were exhausted before making a move.
By then, the Goku template would end, and he could switch to the Naruto template, summoning Toads and using Kurama’s power.
Half an hour later, as Captain Marvel’s energy began to recede, Magneto was drenched in sweat. Hawking knew the time had come.
“Snap!”
Hawking broke his cuffs and dashed towards Magneto at lightning speed.
“It’s over!”
In his weakened state, the old Magneto would have fallen to Hawking’s sneak attack. But the enhanced Magneto detected him within range using his magnetic field.
To save himself, he abandoned his hold on Captain Marvel and recalled the metal stream to protect himself, blocking Hawking’s attack.
“How can you use your powers?”
After deflecting the attack, Magneto looked at Hawking in shock.
“Too bad, I was a bit slow.”
Seeing Magneto escape his strike, Hawking retreated to avoid being trapped like Captain Marvel. He then activated the Naruto template, creating a clone to communicate with Kurama.
“The answer is simple: I’m not a mutant!”
