Matt could only struggle feebly under the influence of Alice’s telekinesis, his immense physical strength wholly neutralized.
“Hmm… Alice, did he have something against you before?” Jill asked quietly, watching Matt’s pitiful state.
“This could scare the kids. Didn’t you see even the two-hundred-pound Peyton is scared to come close?” she added.
“No, he was my friend before being transformed. I feel partly responsible,” Alice said while manipulating Matt to perform aerobatics in mid-air. “So, I need to help him regain his senses.”
Watching Matt flip through the air like on a roller coaster, Tony wondered whether he had upset Alice during this time.
“Mr. Stark, the target person, Dr. Charles, is under threat,” Jarvis interrupted Tony’s reverie.
Tony looked at the monitors. It appeared that Cain blamed the failed experiment on Charles and was now menacingly confronting him.
“Alice, there’s trouble with Charles! I’m going to help him; remember to follow up!” Tony said to Alice.
Then, activating his thrusters, flames burst from both his hands and feet, propelling him rapidly toward Charles’s location.
“What have you done? What exactly have you done?” Cain shouted, banging his hands on the table in front of Charles.
“Seems like you’re a bit heated up. What, computers not reliable enough for you?” Charles taunted.
Cain stepped forward, grabbed Charles by the collar, and lifted him from his wheelchair.
“I’m telling you! Even if I fail, you will die before I do!” Cain glared into Charles’s eyes.
“Spit!” Charles responded by spitting directly into Cain’s face.
Consumed by rage, Cain threw Charles to the ground, pulled out a gun, and aimed it at Charles’s head.
“I’ll give you one last chance. Tell me everything!” Cain demanded, wiping the spit from his face.
“In your dreams!” Charles retorted defiantly, now fearless since his daughter was no longer under Umbrella’s control.
“I created the T-virus; I’m the main culprit. Now it’s my time to atone,” Charles said, closing his eyes.
He had never regretted creating the T-virus because it was the only way to save Angela, regretting that the technology had fallen into Umbrella’s hands.
“You think I won’t kill you?!” Cain cocked the gun, issuing his final request.
Boom! An explosion erupted from above them.
Bang! The bullet fired from the gun, but it did not hit Charles.
Charles opened his eyes to find Iron Man standing before him.
“Doctor, redemption isn’t that simple,” Tony spoke. “If you die now, there is no way to stop Umbrella’s plans.”
“It’s you! It’s all because of you!” Cain, realizing Tony’s involvement, yelled furiously.
All the experiments had not been fully initiated, and such a result would lead to criticism from Umbrella’s upper management. Going back now, the best outcome might be becoming a test subject himself.
So, Cain needed to find a way to salvage the situation, and upon seeing Tony’s suit, he thought if he could bring it back to the company, forget punishment; they’d have to promote him.
“Fire! Kill him!” At Cain’s command, the soldiers’ guns blazed.
A mere clown! Tony silently labeled the now irrational Cain.
Twin repulsors rose from the shoulders of the Mark armor, and under Jarvis’s control, they fired accurately, effortlessly shredding the surrounding soldiers.
Simultaneously, Tony’s palm emitted a laser beam that pierced directly through Cain’s skull. “Not… I haven’t reached the top yet…”
Cain’s last thoughts as the laser took his life were of his unfulfilled ambitions.
Tsk, letting this guy die so quickly feels a bit unfair to the innocent people of Raccoon City.
As Tony was slaughtering, Alice and the others made their entrance on the outskirts of the camp.
Jill and Peyton, two of Raccoon City’s best officers, utilized their high proficiency with firearms to ensure each bullet killed an enemy.
Alice and the now-conscious Matt were an even more formidable duo. With Matt acting as a human shield, Alice could unleash wide-range telekinetic attacks without needing to defend herself.
The journalists and Angela, the only two who lacked combat skills, simply needed to hide at a distance.
The sudden shift in circumstances caught Charles by surprise, and he struggled to get back into his wheelchair.
Ignoring the bullets whizzing around, Charles drove his electric wheelchair to the now-empty control room.
At the central console, Charles pulled out Cain’s severed finger from his pocket.
After unlocking the computer with the fingerprint, a screen showed the status of a nuclear weapon launch with just ten minutes remaining.
Frustrated, Charles hammered on the computer, annoyed at his slowness.
“Stop hitting it! The nuclear missile will arrive in ten minutes!” Charles shouted outside.
Whoosh—Hearing the shout, Tony flew past Charles, scooped him up, and headed towards the helicopter.
Alice lifted her hand, and the dirt rose with her telekinesis, blocking the soldiers’ view.
Then, with a swoop of her hand, including herself, six people were lifted by telekinesis and flew toward the helicopter.
Once inside the helicopter, Peyton rushed to the cockpit.
“Can you operate this thing?” Tony asked.
“No problem, I learned during a vacation in Hawaii,” Peyton replied efficiently, taking control of the helicopter.
Alice stood behind Tony and gently tapped on his armor.
Tony turned around, puzzled. Alice’s expression was odd—not adoration, but more like she had seen hope.
“Is there any mission left undone? I can help you,” Alice said, her tone unusually tender, making Tony uncomfortable.
Glancing unconsciously at the mission prompt in his suit, Tony saw that all tasks were completed and shook his head.
Alice didn’t press further and sat at the far end of the cabin, watching outside, waiting for the shockwave to arrive.
She had already seen the variables, felt the changes in the world, and everything was moving positively; nothing could make Alice happier.
Boom! The nuclear missile exploded not far behind the helicopter, sending a terrifying shockwave spreading out.
Alice extended her hand, and a visibly dense telekinetic barrier formed, firmly blocking the shockwave outside.
With this layer of protection, everyone inside the helicopter was spared from the significant impact. After the shockwave passed, Tony disappeared from inside the cabin.
