Marvel Rise of Lord God Chapter 49

Loki's Lies

As Coulson returned to normal, he immediately sensed something was off. He had intended to interrogate someone, but here he was, idly passing the time—this was highly unusual.

Without showing emotion, Coulson glanced towards the detention room, then quickly averted his gaze and blended into the crowd of aimless time-wasters.

There was only one Amulet of Serenity; Coulson had to make himself appear as if he were bewitched. Otherwise, if Loki noticed, being subdued with a control spell would be the least of his worries; the real fear was that Loki might decide to eliminate him outright.

Time passed, and the detention room remained silent. Coulson continued to maintain his enchanted facade. As an agent, his acting skills were top-notch; without specific scrutiny, no one could tell the difference.

After busying himself for nearly a day, it was around the afternoon when someone finally came to pick up Thor.

“Hello, we’re here to pick up Donny; he’s my colleague. He got lost and accidentally wandered in here last night,” said the meteorologist Coulson had taken research data from.

Coulson stood aside as Melinda took the ID card, swiped it through the reader, and then completely ignored the computer’s “Person Not Found” alert, returning the card to the visitor.

The more Coulson watched, the more astonished he felt—this world was entirely of unknowns.

Two soldiers escorted Thor over, and after a brief conversation, Melinda and her team handed Thor over to the visitors.

Once the group had left, Melinda returned to the computer screen to continue her research.

Coulson sat aside, his patience ample. He would not show any signs of anomaly until he was sure the caster had left.

Half an hour later, the sound of helicopter blades echoed overhead. Coulson quickly rushed out.

A team member jumped down from the helicopter and handed a briefcase to Coulson. “The Director said if this thing breaks, you might be paying it off with your salary for the next decade.”

“What?” Coulson was startled; paying for broken equipment was on him. “Okay, you hand it over, and I’ll discuss the specifics with the Director.”

“Clearance granted.” After hearing Coulson’s response, the person finally released their grip on the briefcase.

When Coulson regained clarity, he used a code word to report the situation to Nick Fury and requested support.

Back in the monitoring room, Coulson sighed as he watched everyone ignore the screen’s alerts and work.

He then opened the briefcase, which contained strange instruments made up of precise components.

The instrument didn’t provide vocal prompts, only text.

“No abnormal psychic emanation detected. Security level yellow.” A yellow light lit up in the upper right corner of the device.

Coulson blinked; this probably meant that the caster had already left. Then, Coulson pressed a red button inside the briefcase.

Zzzt—Screech!!

A grating noise burst from the briefcase, piercing everyone’s minds.

It sounded like fingernails scraping glass but even sharper and more piercing.

Melinda and others clutched their heads in pain, their faces contorted with struggle.

Coulson desperately stuffed his fingers into his ears, and after five minutes, the noise stopped. Melinda was sweating profusely as if she had just endured an intense workout.

Sitting on the ground, Melinda looked dazed, her eyes unfocused, staring ahead.

“Melinda? Melinda!” Coulson crouched down, calling her name twice.

Melinda gradually came to her senses, looked up at Coulson, and said, “It felt like I had a long dream. Am I awake now or not…”

“Don’t worry, you’re awake now.” Coulson helped Melinda up from the ground.

Once revived, Melinda returned to her formidable self, charging into the monitoring room. After unlocking the alarm computer with an internal account, she searched today’s surveillance records. “What’s gotten into her? Haven’t seen her this fired up in a long time.” Hawkeye pressed his temples, coming to stand beside Coulson.

“Who knows, maybe she had a bad dream or something,” Coulson shrugged.

“Hey, you okay? You don’t look too comfortable either,” Coulson turned to look at Hawkeye.

“I’m alright, at least better than being controlled,” Hawkeye forced a smile.

He remembered a recent conversation with Nick Fury.

The Main God Space… it seems I need to make a move.

Hawkeye thought about how to surpass Black Widow and secure a spot; currently, only two were candidates.

“Found it! Come look!” Melinda called over to Coulson.

The computer screen showed a shadowy figure—it was Loki. After discreetly controlling those around him, the trickster swaggered.

The computer screen displayed a person who looked rather sinister. This person was Loki, who, without making a sound, controlled the people around him and then swaggered into the detention room.

Then, there was no more scene to be seen. The level of shielding in the detention room increased, making even the surveillance cameras unable to function correctly.

“I’ll catch this guy sooner or later, then make him listen to that sound for an entire day!” Melinda said, her hatred making her teeth itch.

Coulson shrugged his shoulders and exchanged a glance with Hawkeye. Women were genuinely vengeful creatures.

Meanwhile, Thor, who had been rescued, drowned his sorrows in a bar.

The day he had been eventful enough for him, starting with the discovery that he could no longer lift Mjolnir, followed by Loki informing him of Odin’s death.

The consecutive blows made Thor not quite himself, but after everything, he had also changed quite a bit. He had come to terms with many things.

Qi Yun stood by Thor’s side, his powerful psychic control abilities making everyone around him overlook his presence.

Only someone with a brain whole of muscles like Thor could be fooled by Loki’s inferior lies.

Odin’s divine power shimmered on Thor, and with such activity of the divine power, who would believe that Odin was already dead?

“Friend, troubled by something? Let’s have a drink together.” Qi Yun sat next to Thor, observing him closely.

Thor turned his head, the passive aura of the son of a god radiating from him. Even with Qi Yun revealing himself, Thor could still perceive Qi Yun’s form.

Lifting his glass, Thor downed the drink in one gulp. Right now, he didn’t want to talk, and he just wanted to drown his sorrows.

“Thor! You’re here.” Jane squeezed through the crowd to Thor’s side.

“You guys are here,” Thor said drunkenly to Jane.

“Yeah, by the way, who were you just toasting with?” Jane asked curiously.

Thor turned his head, but Qi Yun, who had just been beside him, had already disappeared.

Did I drink myself into hallucinations? Thor wondered, stunned.
