The ice crystals gradually dissipated as time passed, revealing the entire battlefield to Tony.
During the time everyone’s vision was obscured by the ice, Loki had fled, taking the captured Hawkeye and Selvig with him.
Tony shook his head, realizing that Loki’s attack hadn’t come. He had anticipated this possibility but knew there wasn’t much they could have done to intercept him.
Turning his attention back to the battlefield, Tony saw a giant ice sphere standing over ten meters tall. Rambo and the ninja could be seen through the transparent ice, frozen along with a wall of earth and suspended bullets.
With a burst from his suit’s thrusters, Tony quickly flew to the ice sphere. He placed the laser emitters on his palms directly against the ice.
With the emitters blocked, the energy couldn’t be released quickly, causing significant heat buildup—ideal for melting the ice.
Wisps of steam rose from the ice sphere, indicating it was finally beginning to melt. However, if Tony worked alone, without worrying about his suit’s durability and energy depletion, it might take him half a day to melt a path through the ice.
“Big metal guy, at this rate, you’ll be here until next century,” the witch Anna said, tossing her hair as she approached the ice sphere.
Tony turned to see her. Only now, in the aftermath, did he notice the two women were quite attractive, very different from the usual depiction of witches in fairy tales.
“So, what’s your plan?” Tony asked.
Anna motioned for Tony to step back. Once she had enough space, she extended her hands, releasing black and white flames.
After waiting a minute without seeing any clear result, Tony landed beside the other woman. “Hey, you came together, what’s she doing?”
The woman glanced at Tony. “I’m Annie, and my sister is trying to extract the frozen people directly.”
Annie pointed to the two flames in Anna’s hands.
“See those flames? The white one represents life, able to connect with the living, while the black one represents death, able to connect with the non-living. Once the connection is established, my sister can swap the positions of the connected parties with herself as the center.”
Tony nodded. Although not an expert on magic, Annie’s explanation was clear enough. He understood what Anna was attempting.
Another small ice block encased Kingpin on the other side of the battlefield. After absorbing part of Loki’s freezing ray, Kingpin was mostly frozen except for his stomach.
Tony hadn’t rushed to save him because Jarvis had detected Kingpin slowly absorbing the energy from the ice, causing it to thin. If Kingpin wanted to break free, he could have done so already.
With a loud roar, cracks appeared in the ice surrounding Kingpin, the sound of breaking ice echoing as he moved within the block.
Under Kingpin’s immense strength, the ice shattered completely. He took a few deep breaths, satisfied. The ray had thoroughly filled his stomach, and he wouldn’t need to eat excessively for a while.
Glancing regretfully at the scattered ice, Kingpin ordered his men, “Collect all this ice and bring it back.”
“Yes, boss!”
The subordinates were a bit dazed, realizing they had been part of a significant battle. Kingpin’s performance in this battle further solidified his position.
After handling the future supply of shaved ice, Kingpin looked towards Tony’s group. Rambo had been freed, and the ninja was almost out.
Satisfied, Kingpin turned and left with his men. None of the S.H.I.E.L.D. or police officers tried to stop him.
Indeed, the New York police had arrived long ago, but with their limited combat power, they could only watch the battle unfold.
Feeling the respect from those around him, Kingpin was pleased. His plan to partially legitimize his operations was progressing well. He didn’t aim to be wholly clean but stepping out of the darkest shadows was a good start.
“Sir, Kingpin has left,” Jarvis informed Tony.
“I know,” Tony replied nonchalantly. They weren’t allies, and forcing interaction would only make things awkward. Knowing how Kingpin would act in critical situations was enough.
At that moment, Happy drove up and hurried over to Tony.
“The rescue team is ready, sir. Is there anything else you need?” Happy asked, panting.
“Prepare a meeting room and some hot water,” Tony instructed before turning to the sisters. “Ladies, care to join me for a break?”
Having pulled the ninja out, Anna dispersed the energy in her hands. It was the first time she had used her abilities so intensely since her talents were awakened in the Main God Space. It was time for a good rest.
The sisters had intended to discuss some matters with Tony, and this opportunity was perfect. Ever since Tony revealed his identity, many from the Main God Space had wanted to connect with him.
Seeing them nod, Tony waved his hand, and the remaining functional drones descended, linking to form a platform that lifted Rambo and the ninja. Together, they prepared to leave the battlefield.
From a distant high-rise, Nick Fury watched the scene and stopped the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents about to intervene.
“Let them go. Also, have Agent 9527 come see me,” Fury ordered.
Although the main God Space’s influence disrupted the Avengers initiative, the current situation didn’t seem bad. With New York’s forces able to repel Loki, further development would make them formidable against extraterrestrial threats.
Avengers? This time, vengeance was swift!
