Surprised but undeterred, Roy didn’t think much of the Lizard. It had merely caught him off guard.
Roaring, the Lizard called out, and from the surrounding alleys, twenty more Lizards appeared, each looking similar to the first.
“Oh, great. This is going to be a bit more troublesome,” Roy said, releasing the clothesline pole. An explosive sound echoed as he vanished at superhuman speed.
With their natural dynamic vision, the lizards could barely track Roy’s movements and had no chance of countering them.
“Huh! Ha!” Roy shouted as he moved, his afterimages appearing around the Lizards, knocking them out one by one.
Once the dozen or so Lizards were unconscious, Roy stopped and shook his hand, blood dripping from his knuckles to the ground.
The blood wasn’t just the Lizards’; some of it was his own.
Roy’s hand-to-hand combat skills and healing factor were among the best, but his defensive capabilities were one of the worst, possibly a trade-off for his super speed.
“Is that it? You guys aren’t strong enough, and there aren’t enough of you! Call more! I want to fight fifty more!” Roy taunted, lifting the unconscious Hawkeye and mocking the fallen Lizards.
Thud, thud, thud—the sound of running echoed from the sewer.
Roy leaped onto a nearby platform, tossing Hawkeye onto a balcony, eyes fixed on the ground below.
The noise grew louder and more numerous.
Bang!
A manhole cover flew into the air, and dozens of Lizards climbed out of the sewer.
Roy’s face twisted into a manic grin. He could fight to his heart’s content.
But as more Lizards emerged, his grin faded. Once they all surfaced, his expression turned completely serious.
“Requesting backup,” Roy said into his earpiece. “There are about two hundred Lizards here. I might not be able to handle this…”
Hissing filled the air below him, sending chills down his spine.
“Two hundred Lizards?!” Tony Stark was startled by the request. Jarvis projected the scene onto Tony’s visor, showing a sea of green that made Tony’s scalp tingle.
Realizing the severity, Tony sent half his drones to assist Roy.
Bzzt—a blue laser shot from below, forcing Tony to dodge mid-air. He glanced down. It was Loki!
“Loki has appeared! This should be the real one. I’ll hold him off; the rest of you must secure the Tesseract before the portal opens!” Tony announced over the comms.
“No problem! I’ll handle it!” Steve Rogers, with Natasha Romanoff, headed towards the destination. Surprisingly, they were the only S.H.I.E.L.D. team not encountering any obstacles.
Hearing Rogers’ response, Tony hovered in the air, locking eyes with Loki.
He raised his right hand, and the suit’s rotary cannons fired superheated flames, colliding with the incoming laser, and neutralizing it. Tony had designed this specifically for Loki.
“Can’t you come up with something new? It’s always the same trick,” Tony said calmly.
“You’re bold, to speak to a god this way,” Loki replied coldly.
“A god who only attacks from the shadows?”
As Tony finished speaking, a dozen Lokis appeared on the ground.
“More people? I think you picked the wrong person,” Tony smirked.
Over twenty armored suits flew out from around Tony, forming a circle. Each suit was distinct, some recognizable as part of the “Hulkbuster” series.
Jarvis took full control, each suit attacking Loki in a coordinated, relentless assault.
Tony used the opportunity to distance himself, observing from afar.
The observation didn’t last long; within two or three minutes, the sound of cracking ice filled the air.
All the suits were instantly encased in ice, too quickly for even Jarvis to react.
Loki silently returned a small box-like device to his cloak.
“Interesting, I knew he’d have something up his sleeve,” Zhao Jian commented from the Helicarrier, watching Loki’s move.
“There’s nothing more to command. Let us know if anything happens,” Zhao Jian said, switching to a smaller earpiece.
“You’re going over? I can call a pilot,” Hill offered.
“No need, I’ll go myself.”
With that, Zhao Jian walked to the deck, made a hand sign, and stepped onto his sword, flying off the Helicarrier like a shooting star.
Without his suits, Tony’s combat ability was limited. He relied on his agility and drones to harass Loki, who surprisingly seemed content to stay put and fight.
As the gamma radiation levels surged, Oscorp’s power supply faltered, causing the entire building to flicker.
“What’s going on now?!” Norman Osborn shouted, emerging from his lab.
He had hoped to devote all his time to the serum research, which would have freed Harry from his suffering, but circumstances prevented him from doing so.
“No idea, sir. The police just ordered an evacuation, saying terrorists are at our energy center,” his assistant explained, panicked.
“Energy center? Evacuate? The center is miles away; why lock down such a large area for some terrorists?”
Norman checked his phone, confirming the police message. Just as he pondered, his phone rang. It was Kingpin.
“Norman, do you have any special security at your energy center?” Kingpin asked politely.
Norman was puzzled. Although they were cooperating on some matters, their relationship wasn’t that close.
“Why do you ask? Are you behind this?”
“Terrorists? No. The target is in your energy center. I wanted to make sure there’s no self-destruct system there,” Kingpin explained. He wasn’t worried about Norman stealing the glory; he’d be the first to arrive at this rate.
“Target?!” Norman understood the situation now.
“There’s no self-destruct. By the way, did you find the things I asked for?” Norman asked, not wanting to get involved.
“I’ve collected some. Contact my men; they’ll give you what you need.” Kingpin ended the call.
