“David, I didn’t expect we’d meet again. When was the last time? I can’t quite remember—maybe three years ago? Time sure flies, doesn’t it, my friend?”
What sounded like a simple greeting was made eerie by the accompanying hiss unique to lizards.
Colonel Johnson’s whisper felt like it came from the depths of hell. His sharp claws pierced the abdomen of the Oscorp commander, David Boreanaz, slowly slicing him open.
Internal bleeding and unbearable pain made David’s vision blur. He squinted at Colonel Johnson’s reptilian face, trying to recognize the man behind this heavily lizard-like visage.
“So, it’s you, Winston. With the way you look now, it was almost impossible to recognize you.”
David Boreanaz coughed, blood seeping from the corners of his mouth.
“No matter how much you change, I’d recognize you anywhere, David. You’re the idiot who left me surrounded by the Taliban. When they sawed off my left hand with a chainsaw, all I could think about was you, David!” Colonel Johnson snarled, lifting David’s body high into the air. Blood dripped from his open wound.
“I got sepsis and barely survived in a hospital while you, the traitor, enjoyed a cushy retirement and got hired by a big corporation like Oscorp. Life’s been good to you, hasn’t it, David? Don’t worry, I’ll find your wife and kids. I’ll tear them apart with my own hands, piece by piece.”
David Boreanaz’s eyes shot open. He strained to lift his head and locked eyes with Colonel Johnson.
“You won’t be able to, monster. The National Guard, SWAT—they’ll swarm over and blow you all to pieces. Even if I die, I’ll still be a hero to this country. And you, Winston, you’ll live forever branded as nothing more than a monster!”
Enraged, Colonel Johnson ripped David’s head from his body.
Nearby, the massive lizard-men were tossing corpses out of Oscorp’s riot trucks. The entire Oscorp security force had been wiped out. These soldiers, once trained by the U.S. military at the cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars, had become nearly unstoppable now that they possessed bodies that could regenerate from any injury.
All of the lizard-men, along with the remaining vulture-man, climbed into the riot trucks. The vehicles, which normally fit over a dozen people, became cramped with just three lizard-men inside.
Colonel Johnson tapped the roof of the truck with his sharp claws.
“Move out. We’re heading to Oscorp Tower!”
The engines of the riot trucks roared to life, and with the screech of rubber burning against the road, they sped off, barreling toward Oscorp Tower.
None of them noticed Alejandro and Broly watching from a distance.
“These lizard-men are much stronger than we anticipated. They haven’t turned into mindless beasts—they’re intelligent, and they still retain their combat skills. Oscorp’s armed forces didn’t stand a chance. Things are spiraling out of our control,” Alejandro said grimly.
When Dr. Connors first transformed into the Lizard, he completely lost his mind, reverting to a primal state. This had led Alejandro to underestimate the serum’s true effects.
If these lizard-men were allowed to rampage through New York City, the damage and casualties would be catastrophic.
Alejandro looked over at Broly, hoping he would step in to deal with the lizard-men.
“No need for me to act. Someone else is already on their way,” Broly said calmly, still floating in the air with his legs crossed. Not long ago, his instincts had suddenly alerted him to the presence of a tremendously powerful being within New York City. Strangely, however, he couldn’t sense this entity’s energy, which was highly unusual.
A few lizard-men might be able to threaten a few hundred people, but this unknown presence had the power to level the entire city.
“The energy is building.”
A grin spread across Broly’s face. Before his fight with the Fire Cloud Hermit, he had encountered a worthy foe.
Just two days ago, Broly had finally perfected the third stage of the Nine Turns True Martial Body technique. His organs, now gleaming like glass, no longer devoured his internal energy but instead began to replenish it.
His physical body had grown even stronger.
Reaching perfection in the third stage, his immensely powerful organs infused his energy with vitality, allowing him to progress toward the fourth stage at an astonishing pace, much faster than he had anticipated.
His muscles, bones, and even skin were subtly evolving, becoming denser and more capable of withstanding tremendous impacts and forces. His body was refining itself into a more perfect fighting form.
“I hope you show up soon so I can test just how strong I’ve become.”
Sirens blared as NYPD squad cars finally arrived on the scene. A dozen police vehicles raced toward the oncoming riot trucks.
“This is the NYPD. You are ordered to stop immediately for inspection!” an officer shouted through a loudspeaker.
In response, gunfire erupted. The lead police car’s windshield was riddled with bullets, and moments later, the heavy riot trucks slammed into it, sending it flying off the road. Other squad cars quickly swerved into position to block the trucks, and officers drew their weapons to engage the lizard-men in a firefight.
“Kill these insignificant pests,” Colonel Johnson roared in fury.
The lizard-men leaped out of the trucks, either shooting back at the NYPD officers or launching themselves directly at the police vehicles. Their sheer strength allowed them to flip cars with ease, clearing a path forward.
“The police are no match for the lizard-men. Their firepower is too weak,” Alejandro observed.
Unaware of the true nature of their opponents, the NYPD officers had come armed with only Glock 17 handguns and shotguns stored in their car trunks. These weapons were almost useless against the lizard-men, as even the bullets that pierced their scales became lodged in their muscles without causing significant harm.
“I wasn’t talking about the police,” Broly replied, shaking his head.
“What… what are these monsters?” one officer gasped as panic quickly set in. Their training had not prepared them for facing such creatures.
“They’re nothing but fools standing in the way of destiny,” Colonel Johnson muttered, grabbing the cowering vulture-man from the truck and hurling him forward.
“Prove your worth, you useless fool!”
