“Is our little genius Xingyu here?” called a young female sorcerer in her twenties in front of a small house. The one calling out for Lan Xingyu was Ye Meng, a guardian sorcerer at Kamar-Taj. She was originally assigned to take care of Xingyu and teach him basic knowledge like reading and writing. Unfortunately, although the Ancient One had taken Xingyu as a disciple, she was very busy. She often had to use the Time Stone to traverse the multiverse, protecting Earth from external threats. Given her responsibilities, she couldn’t be with Xingyu all the time.
So when the Ancient One was not around, Ye Meng took over his care. But that was until Xingyu was three and a half years old. Let me explain why everyone started calling Xingyu a little genius later on.
First of all, he was already speaking fluently by the age of one and a half, and by two years old, he was gradually mastering life skills (thanks to having an adult’s consciousness). Initially, everyone was concerned that Xingyu was too young and not strong enough. But after some time, they discovered that he had extraordinary strength. At two and a half, he was already stronger than an average adult, which scared the Ancient One and the other sorcerers. They worried that Xingyu might be possessed by a demon from another dimension.
Luckily, after a thorough examination by the Ancient One, they found that it was a false alarm. Xingyu did have a force strengthening his body, but it wasn’t from a demon; it was a remnant of the dragon vein power his mother Lan had used. The Ancient One breathed a sigh of relief. It was already concerning enough that he was born with immense magical potential, and his physical prowess was even more daunting.
However, the Ancient One’s assessment only partly explained it. Xingyu’s strength was indeed partly due to the dragon vein power, but the primary reason was the enhancement bestowed upon him by the celestial grandfather when he was reborn. The dragon vein’s energy merely added to this.
By the age of three and a half, Xingyu could take care of himself and had awakened the abilities of the Glint-Glint Fruit. At four years old, he was having a blast at Kamar-Taj! The Glint-Glint Fruit’s power made him uncatchable by anyone except the Ancient One, even if a group of sorcerers used teleportation portals to pursue him. Moreover, his Glint-Glint Fruit ability had been strengthened by the god, making him impervious to seawater and allowing him to turn at will.
We all know light travels in a straight line, but Xingyu could curve and even loop. It was as if he were prying open the coffins of every great physicist. Moving at the speed of light while still being human? It’s a good thing Einstein was cremated. Otherwise, Xingyu would have seen what it means to “rise from the grave”…
But his most formidable attribute wasn’t just his physical speed. It was his dynamic vision and brain processing speed that kept up. Like the Flash with light-speed capabilities, where others saw bullet time, Xingyu saw everything in slow motion. Even Quicksilver couldn’t outrun him. If Lan Xingyu were the second fastest on Earth, who would dare claim to be first?
After mastering the Glint-Glint Fruit’s powers, Xingyu began helping everyone around. Of course, it wasn’t for free. Since the Ancient One deemed him too young to learn magic, saying he should wait until he was six or seven, Xingyu, although verbally agreeing, felt quite frustrated. As a person over twenty years old in combined age, he found it absurd to spend his days reading children’s books. If he didn’t learn magic, the vast knowledge in his head would go to waste. Thus, Xingyu went around helping others, leveraging his adorable looks to persuade them to include him in classes or teachings.
Everyone initially thought he was too young for the rigorous training of magic. But when such a cute, considerate little boy looked at them with pleading eyes after helping them out, who could refuse?
Thus, through the shameless act of being cute, Xingyu managed to gain legitimate access to classes (Yes, shameless, but it works! It’s called ‘cuteness is justice!’).
Xingyu took his studies seriously. He often thought that if he had shown this level of diligence during his college entrance exams, he could have easily gotten into Tsinghua or Peking University. Ahem…
With his enhanced brain and knowledge of otherworldly magic, Xingyu often went into light-speed mode, combining what he learned with what he already knew. This led to some creative ideas that left his teachers and classmates in awe, frequently calling him a prodigy.
Moreover, Xingyu’s unique insights often brought fresh perspectives, benefiting even the veteran sorcerers teaching him. Upon hearing about this, the Ancient One allowed Xingyu to continue learning magic and began personally instructing him at the age of four. His magic skills advanced rapidly, allowing him to gradually use the “magic in his mind” under the guise of creating new spells.
By the age of six, Xingyu’s magical prowess had already reached the high-level ranks at Kamar-Taj. He could open a portal (gate) without the need for a sling ring and cast a spell called “Slip,” a nightmare-inducing spell that made everything within its range lose friction for a period of time. This spell earned him the reputation of being unbeatable at Kamar-Taj.
Participation in the high-level sorcerer tournament only cemented his reputation. The tournament that year was the largest in a decade, with 100 contestants from around the world, including from the various sanctums and Kamar-Taj, vying for ten spots. These were all top-tier sorcerers. But the competition turned into their worst nightmare…
On the day of the tournament, 99 sorcerers and Xingyu were transported to a 200×200 meter arena. Seeing a five- or six-year-old among them, they questioned how the Ancient One could let such a young child participate in such a dangerous competition. They requested that Xingyu be removed for his safety.
Though sorcerers in the mystical realm are generally kind-hearted, and no one looked down on Xingyu because of his age, they were genuinely concerned for his safety and thought the Ancient One was being reckless.
However, with the Ancient One’s assurance, the competition proceeded. Despite the oddity of a child participating, the sorcerers began the match earnestly once it started. As everyone heightened their senses, a child’s voice said, “Slip,” and the nightmare began…
A white magic circle appeared beneath the sorcerers’ feet. Suddenly, they all fell, unable to stop rolling due to the complete loss of friction. To their despair, the competition was broadcasted live across Kamar-Taj and the three sanctums to ensure fairness. Thus, they involuntarily performed a group human yo-yo demonstration for all the sorcerers watching.
Sliding up and down,
A pause and a release,
Back and forth,
The tricks vary endlessly,
It’s quite impressive,
Eternal motion,
Filled with wisdom,
Up and down,
Speed and force combined,
A training for the body and mind.
(“Song of Youth,” a nostalgic song for the 90s generation)
They rolled in various poses for 15 minutes… Watching them roll faster and faster, Xingyu felt a bit embarrassed. After all, these sorcerers had been concerned for him earlier (You knew they were worried about you, and you still made them roll for 15 minutes! What a demon!). Feeling a bit guilty, he lifted his hand and canceled the spell. The sorcerers collapsed to the ground with a collective “thud.”
One participant later left this quote: “Brother, have you ever experienced true despair? I have. Continuous, compounded despair for 15 minutes straight. After this competition, I’ve realized that everything in this world is fleeting. I’m done. I’m going back to grow vegetables and raise kids.” He left, with only a sigh and a lonely silhouette against the setting sun…
The Ancient One, acting as the referee, couldn’t help but marvel repeatedly at what kind of prodigy her disciple had given birth to…
(Now, back to the beginning of the story.)
“Sister Ye Meng, I’m here,” a flash of light appeared, revealing a six-year-old boy in front of Ye Meng. Now even cuter than before, Xingyu’s eyes sparkled like galaxies. His slightly chubby cheeks made people want to pinch them. Seeing him, Ye Meng couldn’t resist and started to knead his cheeks. Ah, the texture is as great as ever, Ye Meng thought.
Seeing Ye Meng was about to forget why she came to find him, Xingyu mumbled, “Sister Ye Meng, what do you need from me? Remember, I’m now a high-level sorcerer; it’s not right to pinch my cheeks like this!” (Translation: Sister Ye Meng, do you need something from me? Also, I’m now a high-level sorcerer, so it’s not right for you to bully my cheeks like this!)
Readers might have guessed by now that Xingyu participated in the high-level sorcerer tournament to stop people from pinching his adorable cheeks. But alas, it didn’t work. The sorcerers at Kamar-Taj, regardless of gender, couldn’t resist his cuteness.
Of course, I, Lan Xingyu, have principles. Except for the ladies, no one else is allowed to pinch my cheeks. Looking at you, Wang the Fat! Unable to tolerate it any longer, Xingyu participated in the tournament. But even as a high-level sorcerer, he couldn’t escape the fate of having his cheeks pinched…
“Oh, right! Seeing our cute little genius
made me forget. The Ancient One wants to see you. She agreed to your earlier request and wants you to go over now,” Ye Meng said, reluctantly letting go of Xingyu’s cheeks.
“Really! That’s great! I’m heading there now. Gate.” With a wave of his hand, Xingyu opened a portal and dashed through it at the speed of light.
Ye Meng had intended to pinch his cheeks a bit more, but as soon as she let go, Xingyu vanished…
Hah, trying to pinch my cheeks again? Do you think I, Lan Xingyu, am that easy to catch?
