Like a bystander, Bella arrived at the tumultuous Caribbean Sea, her sight reaching countless warships, the fierce murderous aura chilling to the bone. Even though she wasn’t physically there, she could feel the oppressive air of death.
Outnumbered and overwhelmed, fear and death affected everyone present.
When people were at a loss, a blurry figure clambered over the ship’s side, pulled on the ropes, and delivered a passionate pre-battle speech.
“The pirates are watching us, waiting for the Black Pearl to lead. What will they see? A frightened rat, a ship without a fighting spirit? No! They will see free people and the spirit of freedom!”
“With the sweat of our brows, the strength of our backs, and the courage in our hearts!”
“Gentlemen, raise the flag!”
“Raise the flag!”
The pirates’ morale soared to its peak, each roaring, eager to engage the enemy with blade and blood. The charm of the Pirate Queen, Elizabeth Swann, was evident.
The subsequent battle became blurry to Bella, like a considerable mosaic fighting before her eyes. At that moment, the light sphere came to her side.
“Child, your heart is full of kindness, and your actions are noble. A minor ordeal cannot defeat you. I have roamed the seven seas, possessing numerous methods to make you stronger, but ultimately, those are not meant for you. Some are too dangerous, but I can also help you unlock your powers, which might truly be what you can rely on. Which method would you choose?”
I want them all! But Bella knew that was impossible.
Bella wasn’t the brightest, but she understood the underlying message in her ancient ancestor’s words. Without a doubt, the Pirate Queen wanted her to choose the latter.
“I trust in myself and choose to unlock my powers.”
The light sphere gently touched Bella’s chest, and she felt her limitations wholly lifted. Her past self seemed trapped in a pond for others to watch, but now she was diving into the vast ocean, with the limitless sky above and the endless blue sea around. A whole new world unfolded before her in an instant.
“Me? What is this?” She was startled by the vast changes within her body.
A youthful giggle emanated from the light sphere: “Stunned? Your ancestor is pretty impressive, right? Go back, silly child, think it over. Even if you can’t figure it out, this power will ensure your safety.”
Bella instantly left the spirit sea, the pain in her palm bringing her consciousness back to reality. She quickly bandaged her still-bleeding right hand, washed her face with cold water, and, once entirely calmed, genuinely began to understand the changes within herself.
The Pirate Queen didn’t gift the anomaly in her, but it was an inherent ability she had.
These abilities were intimately linked to her, not due to genetic mutations or mystical powers exchanged through a pact with deities or demons.
It was a power that belonged to Isabella Swan herself.
Perhaps it was due to being bullied too often at school, or maybe it was her natural introversion; her wariness towards the outside world had caused her heart to close off. Over time, she developed the ability to prevent psychic intrusions. After her previous self struggled and became a vampire, this ability manifested.
Using the vampire method to manifest the ability might seem like a permanent solution, but it also cut off any further progress, permanently halting her development. Her actions severed the potential that once seemed limitless.
Now, the Pirate Queen helped Bella take this crucial step to manifest her abilities without influencing her future. How far she could go was entirely up to her.
She could use her beliefs, willpower, and determination to create a unique energy source. Drawing energy from within herself, she called this force “psychic energy,” distinct from the 40K psychic energy, as it required no extraction from subspace; she needed only to focus inward. This was an ideological power, the power of the mind!
This ability did not cause the backlash common among Marvel sorcerers because it was her power, to begin with—there was nothing to backlash against! However, due to her reliance on her psyche, Bella couldn’t comprehend or accept things that didn’t resonate with her mind, meaning her diversity in casting spells was less than that of traditional sorcerers.
Sorcerers borrowed power from demons, drew symbols, and chanted spells to cast magic, which could be used whether or not the meaning was understood since both the magic and the chants were external.
Bella had to understand fully; if she didn’t comprehend a spell, she couldn’t use it.
Her psychic power was entirely dependent on her level of enlightenment; she couldn’t just claim, “I am God,” and become one.
Are you worthy? You’re not!
Her ability was somewhat similar to that of a D&D position but still distinct.
Everyone’s psychic world is different.
Some have a psychic world resembling an animal or a plant; Bella’s was a lake shaped like an inverted triangle.
Her “spirit lake” had a small surface with just a thin layer of liquid—small and shallow.
According to her understanding, the lake’s surface represented her knowledge, insights, beliefs, and so on—her magical reservoir.
The depth of the spirit lake represented the power of her magic; the deeper her understanding of her psychic world, the stronger the energy she could manipulate, akin to her level.
Bella’s psychic ability differed from that of mutants.
Mutants awakened their X-genes during puberty, extracting new powers from them.
Once stabilized, they slowly mastered their abilities through extensive practice.
These were genetically based superpowers, fixed in effect; no matter how hard they trained, there was little room for growth, except for Omega-level mutants who could alter their genetic sequences. Most mutants’ abilities were fixed once their genes were changed.
Bella’s psychic ability was different; it was a power left to her by her ancestors based on her lineage.
Her genes were undamaged; she could add her abilities to human genetics.
After becoming a vampire, the original Bella manifested a power called “Shield Magic,” a deformed ability resulting from the vampire lineage disruption of her psychic talent.
She also gained the ability to control emotions, which, as the name suggests, was a remnant produced after her psychic talent was disrupted.
The proverbial pearl hidden in the chest described her former self; now, Shield Magic and emotion control were within her spirit lake, fully comprehended and controlled by her, ready to be invoked whenever needed.
