“Jin!”
Just as Uchiha Jin stepped into the western district of Konoha, a familiar voice rapidly approached him. Captain Uchiha Hayahara, leading a squad from the police force clad in cloaks emblazoned with the word “Justice,” rushed toward him with the pride of peacocks, their black cloaks fluttering behind them.
“Hayahara, how’s it going?” Jin asked, curiosity evident in his voice as he observed Hayahara’s brisk approach.
According to Jin’s prior instructions, the police force should have been in the midst of a fervent operation. He hoped Hayahara hadn’t been slacking off.
“Mission accomplished!”
Unlike the haughty demeanor he showed to outsiders, Hayahara’s face was filled with barely contained excitement in front of Jin.
Once upon a time, despite the authority and formidable combat abilities of the police force, the villagers they protected viewed the Uchiha clan with deep fear and apprehension. Although the proud Uchiha didn’t care much about outsiders’ opinions, no one liked being met with constant scorn.
If it weren’t for the frequent reminders from their leader, Fugaku Uchiha, to avoid heavy-handed law enforcement and accept criticism from fellow villagers, Hayahara wouldn’t have hesitated to show those who gossiped about them the power of Uchiha’s Fire Release techniques. As proud Uchihas, they didn’t need reminders to uphold their duties without oppressing the villagers.
Despite their meticulous adherence to their duties, many Konoha villagers remained ungrateful, with more joining the ranks of those who scorned the Uchiha. Over time, Hayahara resigned to the belief that the noble Uchiha bloodline was incompatible with ordinary villagers.
However, the tide had turned completely in just a few short days. In Jin’s “Crackdown on Black Market Activities,” the police force went all out. Disputes that once required lengthy arguments to resolve were now easily settled with a painless Sharingan genjutsu. Riots were quelled with relentless force, ensuring no one could withstand them for more than three minutes. Gossip and slander, once silently endured, were now met with the full brunt of genjutsu and taijutsu, uncovering numerous Root operatives in the process.
Fairness! Justice! Transparency!
Since donning the cloaks of Justice, the familiar fear in the eyes of the villagers remained, but something new and surprising emerged—admiration! It was as if the Justice cloaks had cast a large-scale genjutsu, allowing the Uchiha to perform their duties without the previous restraints.
“According to your orders, the police force has completed the cleanup operation!” Hayahara’s tone conveyed a hint of pride, clearly relishing his newfound enjoyment of his duties.
“So quickly!” Jin wasn’t surprised that the police force completed the task efficiently. In Konoha, who would dare to oppose such a minor matter? However, the intricacies of the task would have exhausted him had he led the operation. How had Hayahara and his squad managed it with such enthusiasm?
These familiar dark circles… Jin’s gaze grew curious as he scrutinized Hayahara, sensing something unusual.
“You haven’t slept for days, have you?” Jin asked, his tone uncertain.
Hayahara’s face flushed slightly, and he responded softly, “We may have dozed off a bit, but it didn’t affect the operation.”
Typical Uchiha!
They treated enemies with cold indifference but showed warmth when needed. Jin’s eyes betrayed a mix of amusement and approval. This work ethic seemed wasted on the police force; no wonder they completed the task so quickly.
Handling the police force was not a challenge for Jin, who had faced far more daunting tasks. Human nature often involves finding faults with the kind and admiring the ruthless, but reversing this perception works wonders. Embracing their reputation as ‘villains,’ the Uchiha had abandoned pretense and approached their duties with a straightforward attitude.
Over time, once the villagers adapted to this new order, even the slightest kindness from the Uchiha was appreciated. Jin’s primary goal was not public opinion but the displeasure of Konoha’s higher-ups. The enemies’ suffering brought him the greatest satisfaction.
Thinking this, Jin gave Hayahara a look of approval and asked, “What about Tonan?”
The shift in public perception was a minor part of the plan. The primary focus was on countering the impending retaliation from Hiruzen and his allies.
Hayahara’s smile faded, returning to the typical Uchiha stoic expression. “No signs of Tsunade yet, but Jiraiya has returned to Konoha.”
