“I’m going to be Hokage?”
Even though Uchiha Fugaku knew it was nearly impossible for him to be under a genjutsu with his Mangekyō Sharingan active, he still felt an unreal sense of disbelief.
Next to Fugaku, Elder Shana of the Uchiha clan was visibly nervous and excited, as if his decades-long hope was within reach.
“Yes, Fugaku will be Hokage… sigh… I’ll just have to deal with it,” Shana thought to himself with a slight grimace, but, seeing outsiders around, he forced a smile of approval.
With Fugaku and Shana’s arrival, the already tense atmosphere grew even more intense, as if the air was filled with explosive tags ready to go off at any moment.
“This can’t be!”
Koharu Utatane, in a discreet move, glanced at Sarutobi Hiruzen, her eyes revealing her anxiousness.
Although Koharu’s whisper was soft, it couldn’t escape the ears of the highly perceptive ninjas in the now silent room.
“What!”
Jin took a bold step forward, the ground cracking beneath him as dirt flew in all directions like a ravenous beast.
“Even the Sarutobi clan, a minor clan that sought refuge in the Leaf, produced a Hokage. Are you saying the Uchiha, founders of the Leaf and the foremost clan in the ninja world, can’t produce a single Hokage?”
“This is outrageous!”
Jin turned towards Shikaku Nara and the others, his voice filled with murderous intent.
“No one has ever dared insult the Uchiha like this. If anyone dares defile our honor, I’ll wipe out the entire Koharu clan. Any objections?”
With Jin’s declaration, the Uchiha Police Force members stepped forward, their eyes filled with madness and killing intent.
“Kill!”
The murderous aura of the Uchiha elites chilled everyone to the bone.
“This…”
Feeling the gazes of the Leaf clan heads, including the Uchiha, Shikaku Nara’s forehead was visibly sweating.
Everyone could see that Jin was spouting nonsense, but once it involved the honor of the Uchiha clan, it took on a completely different meaning.
Shikaku knew that if he spoke in defense of Koharu, he would face the full wrath of the Uchiha, likely leading to an all-out civil war within the Leaf and inviting other villages to attack.
Even Shikaku, known for his strategy and judgment, couldn’t stay calm under such pressure and hesitated to speak.
“Good!”
Jin’s lips curled into a cruel smile as he fixed his murderous gaze on the trembling Koharu.
“Don’t do anything reckless…”
“I’ve tolerated you long enough!”
Jin cracked his knuckles and took a step forward.
“Wait!”
Seeing Jin’s murderous intent, Sarutobi Hiruzen quickly stepped in to stop him.
“Koharu only feels that the election is too hasty and isn’t targeting the Uchiha. It seems we were overthinking it.”
“Hmph!”
Jin scoffed coldly.
With Hiruzen mediating, any further action would be seen differently, so Jin turned his murderous gaze on Hiruzen.
“My real target is you and the Sarutobi clan. Watch your words carefully!”
“As the head of the Police Force and a leader during the Third Ninja War against the Mist, Fugaku Uchiha is naturally qualified to run for the Fifth Hokage.”
Under Jin’s unwavering gaze, Hiruzen’s heart chilled, but he remained outwardly calm.
“But Jiraiya also performed admirably in the Third Ninja War. We can’t dismiss his accomplishments over a minor issue. So, I think…”
“What do you mean by minor issue!”
“It’s not becoming Hokage that earns recognition; it’s earning recognition that makes one Hokage!”
Jin interrupted, pointing to the nearby villagers.
“Now you tell everyone that a pervert who spied on old ladies can gain recognition. Ask yourself honestly, aren’t you ashamed to say that?”
Pretending to remember something, Jin added, “I recall you developed the ‘Telescope Jutsu,’ which can’t penetrate the barriers of the clans. Did you use it for peeping too?”
“As they say, if the upper beam is not straight, the lower beam will be crooked. With such a morally corrupt teacher, no wonder his student behaves this way. But don’t tarnish the Leaf with your vile thoughts!”
“It’s because of your disgraceful behavior that we Uchiha ousted you from the position of acting Hokage!”
Hearing about the ‘Telescope Jutsu,’ Jiraiya couldn’t help but be intrigued, but his anger flared up at Jin’s public criticism of his teacher.
“Calm down, Jiraiya.”
The Toad Sage Shima hit Jiraiya to calm him down, aiding him in exiting Sage Mode with Fukasaku’s help.
The Toad Sages saw it for what it was—political power struggles typical in the ninja world. While they wouldn’t interfere with Jiraiya’s choices, they didn’t want him caught up in this mess.
Jin glanced at the two toads from Mount Myoboku, a strange light in his eyes, then turned back to Hiruzen.
“If you can get the old ladies who were spied on to forgive Jiraiya, our Police Force will handle it fairly.”
Hiruzen, now somewhat immune to the constant humiliation, still felt a vein pop at this statement.
“You plan to use public office for personal revenge, and you dare say it out loud!”
But as Jin suggested, getting forgiveness from the villagers was tough.
Even with his high esteem, Hiruzen couldn’t force the villagers to forgive.
Maybe…
