“Fire Style: Dragon Flame Jutsu!”
Obito quickly performed hand signs, gathering chakra in his mouth. He swiftly executed both nature and shape transformations, spewing a fiercely burning dragon of flames that shot toward Uchiha Tetsuo.
Uchiha Tetsuo had been growing increasingly surprised during their close-quarters combat. He hadn’t expected Obito to improve so much in just one-holiday break; his progress was immense compared to his third-year self.
Seeing Obito perform hand signs to release a jutsu, Tetsuo immediately began his own hand signs, preparing to counter with a jutsu. He didn’t believe that Obito, despite his improvement in taijutsu, could have advanced equally in ninjutsu. He couldn’t fathom losing to Obito in a ninjutsu showdown.
“Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!” Tetsuo released a massive fireball, roughly the height of a person, toward Obito.
On one side was a fierce, fanged fire dragon; on the other, a raging fireball. The two jutsus were on a collision course.
“Man, I envy them. They’ve already learned offensive ninjutsu.”
Many of the watching students were envious. Some of them were still struggling with the basic Three Techniques, let alone learning new jutsus.
“You call this guy a loser?” Other students from different classes were shocked. They originally wanted to see Tetsuo’s strength, but they were astonished that Obito could use such a well-executed fire-style jutsu.
“With this level, he should be considered a top student, not a failure.”
“Still, it seems like Uchiha Tetsuo has the upper hand. His fireball looks much bigger than Obito’s dragon,” someone commented.
He believed that in a ninjutsu duel, the larger fireball would prevail.
“Uchiha students are impressive. Who knew Obito was hiding this much? Even if he’s not as strong as Tetsuo, his skills would make him a top contender in my class. It’s a shame his theory scores are so low,” Kimura Sugito remarked, scoring the two as they fought.
The students from prominent clans were different. During his own student days, mastering the Three Techniques was enough to make him happy.
Based on his taijutsu performance and the showcased ninjutsu, Kimura was prepared to give Obito a decent score, even if he lost early.
Just as the two jutsus were about to collide, the dragon suddenly ascended, avoiding the fireball entirely and continuing its charge toward Tetsuo.
Meanwhile, Obito began to move quickly, dodging the fireball while controlling his dragon.
Tetsuo didn’t expect Obito to break the unwritten rule of continuing a ninjutsu clash. He was caught off guard and had no way to redirect his fireball.
Seeing the dragon approach, Tetsuo realized it was too late to dodge and braced himself to take the hit.
At that moment, Mokutsuki, who had been prepared, used the Body Flicker Technique to move to Tetsuo’s side, pulling him out of the arena and preventing him from getting hurt.
“Thank you, Sensei,” Tetsuo expressed his gratitude to Mokutsuki, knowing he would have been injured otherwise.
Mokutsuki nodded and then announced the result:
“The winner of the first match is Uchiha Obito.”
The spectators were momentarily stunned by the rapid shift in the battle’s momentum.
They had been ready to witness a head-on collision of fire jutsus, but Obito’s unexpected maneuver quickly ended the fight.
If not for the teacher’s intervention, Tetsuo might have been injured.
“This Obito is not to be underestimated,” one of the watching students remarked, now wary of Obito.
Tetsuo’s large fireball looked impressive, but in reality, it was challenging to hit a moving target.
Obito’s Dragon Flame Jutsu, on the other hand, was smaller but much more agile, making it more likely to hit its target.
“Well done, Obito!” Rin cheered, genuinely happy for him.
She was thrilled that Obito had beaten Tetsuo in the practical exam. Even if his theory scores were still poor, no one could call him a failure now.
Ninjas ultimately prove their worth through strength.
Hearing Rin’s praise as he walked over, Obito couldn’t help but grin broadly. He proudly said, “See, I told you I could do it.”
Inside, Obito felt immense gratitude towards Mokutsuki.
He knew this transformation was all thanks to becoming Mokutsuki’s student and receiving his daily guidance.
Had it been his former self, Tetsuo would have easily overwhelmed him in the taijutsu.
[Disciple Uchiha Obito’s trust level has increased to Level 3]
While Mokutsuki was calling the next list of examinees, the system displayed a message.
He glanced at Obito, who was currently chatting happily with Rin.
“It seems having a crush isn’t entirely a bad thing,” Mokutsuki thought.
Increasing trust levels was challenging because each level up brought significant benefits, doubling the rewards and enhancing the disciple’s feedback.
Although previous feedback had only slightly increased Mokutsuki’s chakra, that was because Shisui and the others were not yet at the stage of rapid growth.
When they reach that stage, a substantial increase in chakra for Shisui could translate into a large boost for Mokutsuki, especially with higher trust levels.
Mokutsuki had hoped for at least one disciple to reach trust level three within a semester.
Obito achieving this in a month was an unexpected bonus.
The subsequent battles were less intense than the first. There were no more instances requiring teacher intervention, allowing Mokutsuki to sit back and score the students while chatting with Kimura Sugito.
Had he not been invigilating, Mokutsuki would have wandered around using his appraisal technique to scout for hidden talents.
He had four disciple slots and had used only three. One slot was still available.
Without knowing if he could increase the number of disciple slots, Mokutsuki was reluctant to fill the remaining slot with someone of less than S potential.
The higher the disciple limit, the more rewards he could earn in the future.
Konoha had many geniuses, and the ninja world was vast. There was no rush to fill the slot. Another disciple wouldn’t bring immediate gains.
Mokutsuki opened his status panel and glanced at his attributes.
Name: Mokutsuki Hanyu
Age: 18
Chakra: 5300
Skills: Water Style: Water Severing Wave, Fire Style: Dragon Flame Jutsu, Water Style: Water Wall, Wind Style: Pressure Damage…
Evaluation: You have mastered numerous jutsus, including various high-level techniques, allowing you to handle a wide range of situations. Ordinary Jōnin are no match for you.
His rate of improvement was quite fast, gaining 1000 points of chakra in a month. He had gone from knowing only two jutsus to mastering dozens, including powerful techniques like the Water Severing Wave. Compared to when he first arrived, he was much stronger.
The morning passed quickly, and the first two rounds of battles concluded.
Guy, however, hadn’t yet managed to change his image as a failure. His opponents were relatively weak, and although he defeated them cleanly, it wasn’t enough to completely overturn his reputation.
But Mokutsuki knew it was only a matter of time. The afternoon would conclude the intra-class practical exams, deciding the class champion.
