“Do you want to head back together?” Shisui asked Obito, who was putting away his test papers.
“Are you heading back early today?” Obito asked, puzzled.
They were both from the Uchiha clan and lived close by, but they rarely went home together because Shisui often stayed late.
Obito wasn’t unwilling to train more, but he worried his grandmother would be concerned if he came home too late.
“Yeah, Mokutsuki-sensei said to go back early today to rest up for tomorrow’s training,” Shisui nodded.
The reason Shisui stayed late every day was that there was no one at home, so it didn’t matter where he was.
“Then you’d better rest well, Shisui. Tomorrow’s training will surely be exhausting,” Obito advised, looking at Shisui with a hint of sympathy.
After all, if Mokutsuki had said this, tomorrow’s training for Shisui would definitely have been harsh.
Even with his own level of training, Mokutsuki hadn’t reminded him to rest well.
“I have a feeling it will involve more physical training,” Shisui said.
Mokutsuki had mentioned that the new Body Flicker Technique would put more pressure on his legs, so strengthening his body was necessary.
“Maybe I’ll even join your battles. If that happens, I’ll go all out,” Shisui joked.
“Let’s hope that’s not the case,” Obito clasped his hands together and silently prayed to the Sage of Six Paths.
He had seen Shisui practicing the Body Flicker Technique, and it was too fast for him to react to in battle.
If Shisui became his opponent, the number of assignments he’d have to do would likely double.
“That probably won’t happen. If it were, Mokutsuki-sensei would have said so already,” Shisui laughed, seeing Obito’s earnest praying.
To be honest, neither Obito nor Might Guy posed any challenge to him, so Mokutsuki wouldn’t arrange for them to train together.
Unless Mokutsuki’s goal was to put pressure on Obito and Guy.
As they walked, Obito suddenly stopped. Shisui, puzzled, looked back at Obito.
“Wait a minute, Shisui. That old lady over there seems to need help,” Obito pointed to an elderly woman struggling with a large bundle on her back.
Shisui looked in the direction Obito indicated. There, indeed, was an older woman having a hard time moving along the street.
“Is Obito’s observation really that sharp?” Shisui was surprised, as he hadn’t noticed it at first.
After finding out what the older woman needed, Obito immediately offered to carry her luggage and escort her to her destination.
“Don’t worry, granny. I may look small, but I’ll be a ninja next year. I’m very strong,” Obito said with a cheerful smile, patting his chest.
Then he performed a set of taijutsu moves, which impressed the elderly woman enough to hand over her luggage to him.
Obito walked ahead with the luggage, followed by the older woman, while Shisui brought up the rear, wearing a thoughtful expression.
After helping the older woman, they continued on their way home. After a while, Obito stopped again to help another older woman with a cane get home.
Shisui now understood why Obito was considered an outlier in the Uchiha clan.
The first lesson Uchiha children learned wasn’t about respecting teachers or caring for older people but about the supremacy of strength and the primacy of ninjutsu power.
Nothing was more important than enhancing one’s strength. With enough power, nothing else mattered.
Although Shisui was young, his talent and strength were evident, making him a leader even among older children.
Obito, on the other hand, lacked enthusiasm for training to enhance his strength but was very interested in helping older people.
Shisui thought that this might be why Obito noticed the older woman needing help.
“Shisui.”
As they entered the Uchiha district, they began to encounter familiar faces. Uchiha Tekka greeted Shisui but looked puzzled when he saw Obito standing next to him.
“Tekka,” Shisui greeted back.
“I’ll head home first,” Obito said hurriedly, eager to see his grandmother, and quickly said goodbye to Shisui.
He didn’t greet Uchiha Tekka because they weren’t familiar with each other.
“Sure,” Shisui nodded.
“Why are you with him?” Uchiha Tekka asked curiously.
Before the last exam, Obito had always been seen as an oddball in the Uchiha clan—poor grades and no ambition, behaving nothing like a typical Uchiha.
After the exam, those labels faded, but he was still considered a peculiar Uchiha.
This wasn’t just Tekka’s opinion but a standard view among their peers.
“What’s wrong with that?” Shisui asked.
“Uh, it’s just surprising, given that he’s Uchiha Obito,” Tekka replied after thinking for a moment.
“Actually, once you get to know Obito, you’ll find he’s a great person,” Shisui said.
Shisui didn’t elaborate much and soon returned home.
“Could Obito’s improvement be because Shisui taught him some training secrets?” Tekka wondered, watching Shisui walk away.
Losing to Obito had made him resentful, and he had been training hard to reclaim his pride in the end-of-term exam.
…
The following day, Shisui and Obito got up early and headed to the training area in the Southern Forest.
As Shisui expected, Mokutsuki had arranged a lot of physical training for him.
Push-ups and squats were just the basics. He also had to swim and run laps around Konoha, with a training load far beyond Shisui’s expectations.
“Isn’t this training too intense for my age?” Shisui couldn’t help but ask.
Though there was talk of a ninja’s body having unlimited potential, the reality was that overtraining could cause hidden injuries.
Hearing Shisui’s comment, Obito curiously looked over and was stunned by what he saw, suddenly feeling that his own training was elementary.
“Normally, such a high training load wouldn’t be possible, but I have a special elixir that can relieve fatigue and heal the body,” Mokutsuki explained.
What Shisui didn’t know was that this was a reward for his excellent performance.
The elixir provided by the system was limited. Mokutsuki had saved two for future study, and each use reduced the quantity.
Among his three disciples, only Might Guy was destined to rely solely on taijutsu. Mokutsuki had initially intended to save all the elixir for Guy.
However, after seeing Shisui’s outstanding performance, he decided to use two doses for intensive training.
Shisui’s potential was the highest among his disciples, and Mokutsuki hoped he would quickly enter a phase of rapid growth. The chakra returned to Mokutsuki from Shisui’s progress would be substantial.
“Elixir?” Shisui was surprised. If it had special effects, it made sense.
Given Mokutsuki’s usual training plans, he wasn’t the type of teacher to increase the training load without reason.
“Mokutsuki-sensei, how much does this elixir cost? My family left me plenty of money,” Shisui asked.
Though his grandparents and parents had passed away, they had left him their assets.
“You don’t need to worry about that. Completing your training diligently is the best repayment for me,” Mokutsuki said with a smile.
Seeing Mokutsuki’s sincere expression, Shisui felt deeply moved. He could tell Mokutsuki meant what he said from the bottom of his heart.
Honestly, the warmth Mokutsuki brought him exceeded even that of his uncle.
