“Right now, our Transformation Jutsu isn’t much different from the regular Clone Jutsu,” Kotetsu sighed during the break.
“Yeah, whether we transform into a monster or our opponent, it doesn’t really make a difference against strong opponents,” Izumo agreed.
They had watched two matches involving Anko and Shisui during the class and grade combat tests.
From their perspective, Anko had done exceptionally well, creating a clone that looked like Shisui before playing a game of which was the real Anko. Despite this, Anko still couldn’t fool Shisui and was easily defeated.
“I think we should stick to my idea: create enough clones to distract the enemy, then attack,” Izumo insisted, believing his strategy was sound, just that the monsters they transformed into weren’t scary enough.
“But Izumo, you couldn’t even beat Anko,” Kotetsu countered.
“But I beat you,” Izumo retorted, pointing out that at least he had won against Kotetsu.
“If you can beat Shisui, then I’ll agree with your idea,” Kotetsu tried to shift the topic to Shisui.
But Izumo saw through Kotetsu’s tactic and chuckled, “Beating you is good enough.”
“You got thrashed by Anko.”
“But I beat you,” Izumo repeated, hitting Kotetsu’s sore spot.
Kotetsu couldn’t take it anymore, feeling that the end-of-term exam was a significant failure in his life.
“You guys really don’t understand anything,” said Ebisu, who had overheard their conversation and adjusted his glasses with a single finger, looking disdainful.
It’s such a good idea, wasted on transforming into monsters.
“Who are you?” Kotetsu asked, scratching his head in confusion.
“I think he’s a senior from Group B,” Izumo whispered, recognizing Ebisu because of his sunglasses.
“Senior, since you think we don’t get it, could you give us some pointers?” Kotetsu asked, hoping to gather more ideas.
As he spoke, Kotetsu offered Ebisu a bag of chips.
Ebisu looked around to ensure no one was close by before accepting the chips.
Sitting down, Ebisu beckoned Kotetsu and Izumo closer.
“Your idea is good. The key to the Clone Jutsu is distracting the enemy, but you shouldn’t think about transforming into monsters,” Ebisu began.
“Instead of monsters, you should transform into…” Ebisu’s voice lowered, and Kotetsu and Izumo’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Senior, are you a genius?” Kotetsu said with genuine admiration.
Imagining Ebisu’s suggestion for the Transformation Jutsu, Kotetsu felt he would definitely fall for it. What man could resist such temptation?
“I think this technique has a lot of potential,” Izumo said, eager to develop the idea based on Ebisu’s suggestion.
“Just don’t tell anyone it was my idea when you use it,” Ebisu said after looking around again.
Kotetsu nodded, then asked, “Senior, what’s your name? I’m Kotetsu.”
“And I’m Izumo,” Izumo introduced himself.
“Ebisu,” Ebisu said, standing up and walking away without looking back.
Kotetsu and Izumo silently memorized his name, watching him leave with respect in their eyes. This was indeed a gift of wisdom.
Today, Ebisu had helped them open the door to a new world.
As the afternoon session neared its end, Mokutsuki called everyone together.
“Starting this week, we will have a strength test every week and a combat test every two weeks. Performing well in these tests can earn you a promotion to a higher group for training,” Mokutsuki announced the upcoming test schedule.
Mokutsuki couldn’t resist trying to exploit a possible loophole in the system.
Since disciples received rewards for performing well in exams, and he couldn’t influence the exam frequency at the Ninja Academy, the summer camp under his complete control was his chance to test this theory.
Even though he previously thought it might not work, he decided it was worth trying now that he had the opportunity.
If it worked, it would be a significant gain. If not, everything would stay the same.
“What’s the difference between these tests?” Anko asked.
“Strength tests do not require fighting. They assess your skills in ninjutsu, taijutsu, and other areas through exams. Combat tests, on the other hand, involve fighting, similar to the Academy’s combat exams,” Mokutsuki explained.
Anko understood right away. The strength test was like the grouping test, and the combat test involved fighting.
After explaining the schedule, Mokutsuki announced the end of the class without dragging out the time.
Mokutsuki’s routine remained the same as yesterday. After the students left, he headed back to the central district for dinner before going to the southern forest to teach his disciples.
However, instead of heading straight back to the central district after dismissing the students, Mokutsuki stayed to continue his own training.
“It’s done,” Mokutsuki said, looking at the glowing chakra ball in his hand and the newly mastered Rasengan in his skill list, feeling satisfied.
Even though he knew the Rasengan’s training process and had proficiency in chakra shape manipulation, he had spent little time on the Rasengan, so he only completed it now.
Mokutsuki had been busy with teaching, guiding his disciples, studying sealing techniques, and recently adding breath training for body strengthening. Only after completing these did he work on developing the Rasengan.
The reason he didn’t prioritize the Rasengan was that it didn’t significantly enhance his current combat abilities.
The Rasengan consumed a lot of chakra. Despite its small size, it was highly compressed, requiring a significant amount of chakra.
For now, other advanced ninjutsu provided better returns than the Rasengan.
Mokutsuki’s primary goal in developing the Rasengan was to assist Minato in its creation in the future, earning Minato’s favor.
Since the Rasengan was inspired by the Tailed Beast Bomb, and Kushina wouldn’t use it against Minato, the idea likely came from seeing it on the battlefield during the Third Great Ninja War.
Therefore, Minato probably still needed to complete the Rasengan.
Until he had invincible strength, Mokutsuki wanted to make as many valuable friends as possible.
Additionally, just because the Rasengan wasn’t useful now didn’t mean it wouldn’t be in the future.
With more chakra and mastery of Sage Mode, he could use techniques like the Rasenshuriken and develop various nature transformation Rasengans. If nothing else, it could also be used to train disciples and earn rewards.
