One Piece: Devouring Fruit Chapter 14

Aokiji

The issue of a pirate’s moral limits is quite a topic.

On the worst end, pirates are ruthless criminals who rob, kill, and burn with no remorse.

On the better end, some are adventurers sailing under the pirate flag. These ships are full of like-minded companions, maintaining a good atmosphere and overall solid capabilities.

After all, if they weren’t strong enough, their chances of survival would be far lower than those of the ruthless pirates.

Representatives of such pirate crews include the Rumbar Pirates and the future Straw Hat Pirates.

These two pirate crews share a unique connection, being the pirate crew Brook was a part of in life and the one he joined as a skeleton after death.

But truthfully, these crews are different from what you’d call proper pirates.

Take the Straw Hat Pirates, for example. The protagonist, Luffy, is an idiot, and the main fighters on the ship are a directionally challenged swordsman and a perverted cook.

The crew includes a thief, a liar, a scheming archaeologist, a bizarre shipwright, a mascot, and a skeleton.

Despite their various unflattering characteristics and professions, they share one common trait.

To sum it up, they’re a ship of kind-hearted fools.

Their sense of justice is far more upright than that of some corrupt marines.

From the East Blue to the New World, they have done countless good deeds and few bad ones.

Given how many prisoners he released, causing chaos in Impel Down might be Luffy’s biggest crime.

Anyway, let’s talk about the Rumbar Pirates. Their flag is a wide-faced skull with bull horns, and the ship’s figurehead is a bull’s skull.

Their motto: “Make even crying children laugh.”

What kind of pirate crew is this?

There are so many aspects to discuss regarding the moral boundaries of pirates that Aburahamu Michion didn’t want to dwell on it any longer.

But not having to gamble his life on the unknown decisions of others was the best choice for him.

After all, having your life in someone else’s hands is not a pleasant experience.

Relaxing, Aburahamu Michion couldn’t help but reflect on his connection with the navy.

Previously, he was saved by the navy when captured as an enslaved person, and now, stranded on a deserted island, he reencountered a navy ship.

As the navy ship approached the shore, Aburahamu Michion finally saw the figure standing at the ship’s bow, and he couldn’t help but feel surprised.

The person was tall, yawning as if very tired. He was wearing a green sleep mask above his forehead, paired with a white suit vest and a dark blue shirt.

Recognizing this attire, Aburahamu Michion immediately knew it was Aokiji, one of the future Three Admirals of the Navy!

But why was Aokiji here on this island?

Seeing Aokiji made Aburahamu Michion feel uneasy and uncertain.

“Hahaha, I knew you’d still be alive, kid!”

Upon reaching the bow of the ship, Yokimura immediately spotted Aburahamu Michion standing on the shore and, without waiting for the ship to dock, used Geppo to rush over.

“Bang! Bang! Bang!”

With the dull sound of Geppo breaking the air, Aburahamu Michion found himself in the embrace of a tall figure.

“Hey, put me down, Uncle Yokimura,” Aburahamu Michion protested, grateful for Yokimura’s memorable trip to find him but still uncomfortable with being held by another man.

“Hahaha, got a bit excited there. I can’t believe you actually survived in this forsaken place. On the way here, I was afraid you’d become food for this island. After all, you were thrown off the ship so suddenly during that intense battle. You didn’t even know about this island’s situation, which made it easy to get caught…”

Yokimura put Aburahamu Michion down, patting his shoulder with relief and joy.

“Ah la la, so this is the kid you mentioned who’s skilled in surgical stitching? Surviving on this island is no small feat. Looks like you’ve grown much stronger,”

Aokiji said with a yawn, starting to take Aburahamu Michion more seriously.

At this moment, Aburahamu Michion had grown considerably taller, his muscles defined, and a wild aura radiated from him, making him look more like a young warrior who had battled beasts than a small child skilled in medicine.

“Ah, Vice Admiral Aokiji, I hadn’t noticed until you mentioned it. How did you grow so tall, kid?” Yokimura said, finally realizing Aburahamu Michion’s growth after Aokiji pointed it out.

“It might be because of the island’s abundant nutrition. When I first arrived, the island had just finished one feeding cycle. Learning the island’s secret, I trained hard to avoid becoming fat and being eaten,” Aburahamu Michion said, rubbing his nose and telling a small lie. He couldn’t possibly tell the whole truth, given his still-childish appearance. This provided a reasonable explanation for his transformation.

“Haha, you’re lucky you encountered the island’s feeding cycle. If you had gotten fat before ‘Stomach Baron’ started feeding, you’d be done for,” Yokimura laughed.

This was true. For those unaware of the ‘Stomach Baron’, the first feeding cycle was the hardest to survive. After surviving it once, anyone would desperately train to lose weight for the sake of their life.

After saying this, Yokimura laughed heartily, patting Aburahamu Michion’s back loudly, making him grimace.

“Yeah, I had to constantly switch between eating and training to resist the allure of the food. Otherwise, I’d have become a fat blob long ago,” Aburahamu Michion said, recalling his struggle against the island’s culinary temptations with lingering fear.

It wasn’t just an act. The addiction to the island’s food was comparable to Big Mom’s dependence on sweets in the future. The madness of not getting to eat was unbearable.

“You’ve had a tough time,” Yokimura said, feeling guilty. This child had been well-behaved and sensible since being rescued. Yokimura had planned to send him to the Navy headquarters for training as a future naval prospect. The fact that Aburahamu Michion survived such an ordeal filled Yokimura with both guilt and a sense of inadequacy.

“It’s okay, really. Look, I’m fine, aren’t I?” Aburahamu Michion smiled, trying to reassure Yokimura. “Besides, I’ve become stronger because of it.”

After a pause, Aburahamu Michion continued, dropping a bombshell, “And not just that. I even ate a Devil Fruit!”
