One Piece: Devouring Fruit Chapter 40

The Impending Execution

The storm of a new era is about to descend.

This world is about to enter the Great Pirate Era, where countless people hope to find the Pirate King Roger’s treasure—One Piece.

But as for what Roger is about to do, Michion is powerless to change it, nor does he want to.

This involves too many things: the Void Century, the hidden answers in the Poneglyphs, and even the numerous significant events and historical trajectories that will unfold following the start of the Great Pirate Era.

There’s too much at stake, and no one can guess why Roger would use his death to kickstart the Great Pirate Era.

It’s a mystery, but Michion never denies the necessity of this event.

The storm of the era is painful, but perhaps it’s something this world must go through. Whatever Roger planned to achieve with his death is beyond Michion’s comprehension.

From Michion’s perspective, he can only plan if history unfolds as he knows it. And this is thanks to his extraordinary memory from his previous life.

This grand plan starts with Roger’s death and extends to an unknown future.

During this long period, which spans over twenty years, Michion must use his knowledge to continuously accumulate strength and allies, and plot every possible advantage to fulfil his plan.

Moreover, even if Michion were to stop Roger from uttering those words at the execution platform that incited the Great Pirate Era, Roger might still have a backup plan to spread the message.

And as the instigator, Michion would offend the Roger Pirates, and just one red-haired Shanks would be enough trouble.

Even if Roger didn’t trigger the Great Pirate Era, it would eventually come. Roger merely ignited the fuse early.

Ultimately, it’s all because of the Celestial Dragons.

These scum, who consider themselves “descendants of the creator,” regard others as inferior beings.

Arrogant and overbearing, they believe themselves so superior that they can’t even breathe the same air as others, hence the bubble helmets, and they treat everyone else as disposable enslaved people, taking pleasure in torturing them.

To them, anyone who isn’t a Celestial Dragon isn’t even considered human.

Moreover, the Celestial Dragons enjoy every privilege.

The Marine Headquarters or CP0 must exhaust all their forces to protect and uphold the Celestial Dragons’ dignity if offended.

They’re a group of scum with enormous power, capable of committing all sorts of atrocities.

Under such rampant abuse from the top down, it’s no wonder the Great Pirate Era erupted.

Think about why Roger could trigger such an era, attracting countless people. It’s because they had no other way to survive.

Roger’s death was just a catalyst.

If they could live peacefully, most people wouldn’t choose the dangerous life of a pirate.

Those who did would be like adventurers like Luffy, and even fewer would be true villains like those under Big Mom and Kaido.

Even Big Mom, as a child, was a kind-hearted, gluttonous kid.

The large number of pirates now is because the first wave of people couldn’t survive and turned to piracy, causing havoc and making more people unable to live peacefully, creating a vicious cycle.

And this vicious cycle can largely be blamed on the Celestial Dragons.

After all, without their demand for enslaved people, there wouldn’t be a slave trade that breaks families apart.

The Celestial Dragons demand vast amounts of tribute and treasures.

So, every country has to pay a heavy “Heavenly Tribute,” leading kings and nobles to exploit their people, with some even more greedy.

So, people couldn’t survive and turned to piracy, perpetuating the vicious cycle.

A single pirate causing havoc could ruin many villages, forcing more people into piracy.

So, it’s all the Celestial Dragons’ fault. No wonder Luffy’s father, Dragon, formed the Revolutionary Army.

Roger’s death simply ignited this situation.

At this moment in Loguetown, heavy military presence couldn’t even describe the scene.

Marine powerhouses were stationed not only in Loguetown but also in the surrounding seas, making the defense the strongest in history.

But so what? The tides of the era will not stop; they will push forward relentlessly and crush anyone in their way!

Upon arriving in Loguetown, without any sightseeing, Michion and his group entered a state of alert after a day of rest.

The group was having lunch in a restaurant.

Though the chef’s skills were impressive, and the menu featured delicious grilled meat, fried rice, and seafood dishes, everyone ate in silence, saying nothing.

Because this afternoon was the execution of Roger!

As elite trainees, Michion and his companions were assigned to the innermost area, where they assisted in maintaining order on both sides of the execution platform!

That was a spot equivalent to seeing Roger’s execution up close!

This made the kids like Tina and Zola feel immense pressure because it was the Pirate King!

Even knowing their final line of defence was just to observe Roger’s execution and maintain basic order, not facing ordinary people or strong pirates.

But it was still the last line of defense, so Michion and the others could not help but feel nervous.

Michion and his group didn’t know about the rest of the security arrangements. Kuzan and others were the guards, and their movements and positions were top secret.

But the many Marines and World Government personnel would surround the execution platform, and even Loguetownattempts to cause trouble would be squashed before they could act!

The execution of the Pirate King must not fail!
