On the vast sea, the weather on the Grand Line is like the most whimsical artist, showcasing different scenes based on its mood.
Sometimes, it is bright and sunny, sometimes gentle, but in an instant, dark clouds can gather, covering the entire sky. Or it starts calm and peaceful, only to be filled with lightning and storms, throwing the sea into turmoil.
This is the Grand Line. If the Grand Line were personified, it would be an inconsistent artist, unpredictable and incomprehensible as a lunatic. As for the New World, it’s entirely on a different level. If the Grand Line is a neurotic painter, the New World is a mad anti-physicist.
Michion was unaffected by the current weather because he had already set foot on Jaya Island, also known as Mock Town.
Michion slipped away after instructing Adolph to sell Alabasta’s goods on Jaya Island, ignoring Adolph’s objections.
Joking aside, if Adolph knew he was heading to the “unrealistic” Sky Island, Michion would likely be heavily burdened by Adolph’s insistence to prevent the trip.
Before leaving, Michion took a Den Den Mushi to stay in touch.
On the endless sea, Michion continuously jumped upwards. If anyone saw him, they would see a series of semi-transparent “block stairs” forming beneath his feet. As the creator ascended, more steps appeared, steadily lifting him higher and higher above the sea.
Sky Island is 7,000 meters above the White Sea, which is 10,000 meters up. Michion had prepared thoroughly, carrying a large backpack filled with food.
Why not just fly directly instead of making floating steps? The answer is simple: it consumes too much energy.
After continuous trials, Michion had developed a significant understanding and improved his “air” abilities, even using them for flight. However, sustaining flight with his power consumed too much energy, so he reserved it for emergencies during combat.
At other times, he created stable, fixed air blocks to act as stepping stones, using them to climb.
Moonwalk (Geppo) had a similar effect, but Michion’s mastery of it was still rudimentary. With his air abilities, he developed the “Air Stairs” specifically for climbing to Sky Island.
These air stairs were like temporary items that floated at a set height. However, controlling them to carry his weight upward drained his energy quickly. Even though his stamina far exceeded his peers, “flying” to 10,000 meters was unrealistic.
Fortunately, maintaining a hovering state consumed minimal energy, allowing Michion to rest and recover as he ascended step by step.
As he reached about 2,000 meters, Michion stopped to rest on a large air block, taking a break and looking down at the ocean below.
From his vantage point, Jaya Island appeared like a small puzzle piece set on a vast blue background.
Michion marveled at the world’s wonders high in the sky, contemplating the origins of the island’s skull shape.
Sitting at such heights didn’t frighten Michion but inspired him to consider bungee jumping. Of course, that would have to wait until his return, and he would need to prepare thoroughly.
For now, he shook off these thoughts, grabbed some jerky from his backpack, and resumed his climb.
Thanks to his rigorous training and exceptional physique, Michion reached an altitude of 5,000-6,000 meters in just half a day. He paused to adapt to the altitude, remembering how Luffy and his crew had been overwhelmed by the thin air.
Although he could manipulate the air somewhat, adapting to harsh environments was also part of his training to enhance his body’s resilience.
Despite the challenge, the physical adaptability in the One Piece world was impressive. After a brief break, Michion felt his strength returning.
Surrounded by clouds, Michion felt like he was in a dream. In his previous life, humans could fly in the sky with airplanes but never truly conquer it. In this world, living in the sky seemed within reach.
As he ascended, the White Sea, a floating sea at 7,000 meters, became visible. Reaching this point was already akin to entering Sky Island.
Though Michion was a Devil Fruit user, he hadn’t experienced the typical aversion to water. This meant he could swim up to the White Sea, unlike others who might have to find its edge.
The White Sea is an expanse of cloud-sea at 7,000 meters, entirely suspended in the sky. While it bears the name “sea” and floats high above, with no land beneath. Falling into it would mean a 7,000-meter free fall.
Just thinking about it was thrilling!
This chapter describes Michion’s ambitious journey to Sky Island, highlighting his unique methods and careful preparations. The juxtaposition of the Grand Line’s unpredictable nature with Michion’s determined ascent underlines the adventurous spirit of the story.
