Hals found himself bored on the ship.
Besides training, there wasn’t much else to do.
However, the system update was finally complete.
But before it finished, Hals had discovered a problem.
His soul could no longer be enhanced, which was alarming.
Hals quickly identified the issue.
His soul had reached a certain level, requiring a more advanced meditation technique to improve further.
So, during this period, he could choose to enhance other abilities or use some of his soul power. For example, he could invest in his magic. As his magic improved, his soul power would decrease, allowing him to continue enhancing his soul.
But Hals could currently only upgrade his magic to level 3. Level 4 magic required an even more advanced meditation technique.
Hals sometimes wondered if he was progressing too quickly.
But he didn’t dwell on it.
Improving faster was better, right? Why worry about other things?
Or maybe the system was designed to elevate Hals quickly beyond the level of the Four Emperors and even Imu, so it didn’t matter.
But why the system was fostering him, Hals didn’t know.
Was there something sinister?
System: “…”
I have such an idiot for a host.
Suspect me? I’ll break your neck, you fool.
Hals reopened his status panel.
- Body: 1690
- Soul: 2000
- Technique: Shave [340+], Paper Art [Learning]
- Magic:
- Level 3: Plant
- Level 2: Water/Wind/Ice/Fire/Earth/Lightning
- Level 1: Light/Dark/Space
- Negative Emotions: 16,351,000
Recently, the negative emotions had increased quickly. The 5 million spent had been replenished fast, and now there were even more.
Hals decided to upgrade his space magic. Currently, it only allowed him to enhance his storage space and perform short-distance teleportation.
Hals upgraded his space magic to level 2, spending 1 million negative emotions and 100 soul power.
He then bought a time magic, spending 500,000 negative emotions and 50 soul power, but the time magic only had one spell for now.
Time Magic: Self-Acceleration
This magic wasn’t very friendly. While everyone else’s time remained normal, his own time would speed up two, three times, or even more, but it would consume his own time faster, essentially shortening his lifespan.
However, Hals had a long lifespan due to his body cultivation, which granted him a lifespan far beyond that of ordinary beings.
Hals could now live at least 500 years.
Unfortunately, Healing Potion could heal all injuries regardless of the cause, restore normal conditions, and recover lifespan lost to special techniques or potions, but it couldn’t restore time magic consumption.
Because it purely consumed his time.
Normal lifespan consumption couldn’t be restored by Healing Potion.
However, Healing Potion could rejuvenate an aged body, though this was useless in the One Piece world.
Strong individuals here didn’t weaken with age.
Now, Hals had learned all the magic, but he couldn’t immediately upgrade his meditation technique, so he had to keep using his soul power.
The most important task for Hals was still body cultivation.
Time passed quickly, and Hals felt much stronger, training alone in his room. He didn’t know what Ain was up to.
Ain was also training, focusing on her swordsmanship.
Ain was a swordsman but hadn’t reached the level of an iron-cutting swordsman, which required enlightenment.
Understanding the breath of all things would allow her to enter the iron-cutting swordsman’s realm, releasing sword energy and instantly cutting through iron.
This seemed true, as shown when Zoro fought Kaku, using his Lion’s Song to cut through Kaku’s Iron Body, forcing Kaku to flee.
So Hals believed this.
Of course, Hals wasn’t a swordsman, so he wasn’t entirely sure.
Hals trained, Ain trained, using her sword to chop at the Diamond Wood stakes Hals grew with plant magic.
“These have the hardness of steel, just right. When you can cut through it with one strike, you’ll have understood the breath of all things and entered the swordsman’s realm.”
Hals could punch through steel. If properly equipped, he could also cut through it.
A day passed.
Hals woke up early, at five.
Usually, everyone else woke at six, washed up, gathered, ran laps, ate in the cafeteria, attended classes, and began training.
Hals left his room and looked out the window.
Although still training, his body no longer shook as violently.
And he constantly drank Strength Elixirs.
So now, he didn’t shake much during training.
The sun was rising, visible as a large orb slowly lifting from the sea. Too bad he couldn’t paint or draw; capturing this scene would have been great.
Hals had an idea but didn’t act on it, instead brushing his teeth, rinsing, and washing his face.
Breakfast wasn’t ready yet, so no need to rush.
Hals knocked on Ain’s door.
“Knock, knock, knock—”
In the darkness, Ain’s eyes opened, hearing a noise.
Ain had a rough night. Not used to sleeping at sea, the warship was large but not very stable, especially in a massive whirlpool area. She fell asleep around one, despite going to bed at nine.
Today, she felt tired and annoyed at the knocking.
“Who is it? Who’s knocking?”
Ain was grumpy.
“Negative emotions from Ain +5000”
It was obvious.
“It’s me, Hals.”
Hearing Hals’ voice, Ain’s anger subsided.
“What is it?”
Ain got up, ready to open the door.
“Oh, nothing much. Just letting you know it’s an hour till six.” Hals paused, “You can go back to sleep.”
Ain: “…”
Where’s my sword?
“Negative emotions from Ain +7000”
“Negative emotions from Ain +7000”
“Negative emotions from Ain +7000”
“…”
