Chapter 16: Got a Grandson? Time Off!
On the way back to Marine Headquarters. “Rokujin, you keep pacing repeatedly; you’re almost making me dizzy. Are you worried about something?” Seiza asked suspiciously. “Hehe, no, nothing, just felt like moving around!” Rokujin replied awkwardly. Walking, naturally, was to increase the experience points for his ‘Soru’ technique.
An hour later, everyone finally arrived at Marine Headquarters. After a brief rest, they began training ‘Soru,’ part of the Six Powers of the Navy. Each trainee had weights tied to their legs and body, continually kicking. Of course, Rokujin was also training. He was walking while kicking, using the weights to challenge himself and increase his Armament Haki experience, and walking to boost his ‘Soru’ experience.
Ding, congratulations, host, ‘Armament Haki’ experience +2!
Ding, congratulations, host, ‘Rokushiki: Soru’ experience +1!
Ding, congratulations…
What followed was another month of nonstop training…
Meanwhile, at sea. Three pirates, significant Black Cat Pirate Crew members—hypnotist Zango, fighter Sam, and Buchi—were sailing on a small boat. Sam glanced behind and asked, “Why hasn’t the captain come yet? It’s been so long!” “He might have run into trouble; after all, he had made plans; maybe he changed them,” Zango replied. “Let’s go to the rendezvous point and wait for him!” “Alright!” And so, they continued sailing.
A few days later. Garp was leisurely eating donuts in his office when there was a knock at the door. “Knock, knock, knock!” “Who is it? Don’t bother me!” Garp said, taking another bite of his donut. Bogart’s voice came from outside: “Vice Admiral Garp, it’s me!” “Oh! It’s you, come in!” “Yes!” Bogart pushed open the door, walked in, and handed over a stack of documents. “Vice Admiral Garp, this is the bounty for your grandson killing the pirate Kuro!” “My grandson… oh, Rokujin!” Garp finally remembered, almost forgetting he had a grandson at Marine Headquarters. “Yes!” Bogart had already gotten used to it and didn’t say much. So, Garp opened the file and read carefully: “This kid did well! He killed Kuro on his own, though Kuro isn’t powerful. I could have killed him with one punch!” Bogart chuckled silently. Pirates of that level were nothing in front of Garp. “Alright, I have some time. Let’s go see that grandson of mine!” “Yes, Vice Admiral!” Saying this, Garp stood up and left the office for the first time in a while.
On the other side, at the Marine training camp’s training ground. Most of the trainees were still doing weight training, while Rokujin had already taken off his weights and was trying out ‘Soru.’ Others noticed and started to watch him, curious to see what he was doing. “What’s Rokujin doing? Why has he taken off all the weights?” “Could he have mastered ‘Soru’?” “Impossible, it’s only been a few days… wait, maybe it’s possible!”
Rokujin took a deep breath, stepped back with his right foot, and slightly crouched. Instantly, he exerted force with his right foot! In a very short time, he stomped on the ground several times, creating a powerful thrust. Especially the last stomp, which was the strongest. With a ‘bang,’ even the air made a noise due to friction! Rokujin moved like a speeding bullet in a flash, instantly appearing dozens of meters ahead. Seeing this, everyone was amazed. “Hahaha, he did it! He learned it!” “That’s Rokujin for you! Truly a genius!” “Hahaha, awesome…” Barton shook his head helplessly, muttering, “Ah, when will I ever beat him? No, I must learn ‘Soru’ quickly!”
Instructor Peter stepped forward, shouting, “What are you yelling about? It’s not like you’ve learned it!” “What are you standing around for? Get back to training!” “Yes, Instructor!” The trainees, startled by his outburst, quickly resumed their training. Peter turned his head, looking at Rokujin with shock and admiration, ‘A genius! An absolute genius, I never thought I, Peter, would teach such a talent!’ Everyone else was surprised, but Rokujin was somewhat dissatisfied, “Is this the best ‘E+ level Soru’ can do?” Although fast, it seemed less effective than Kuro’s ‘Silent Steps.’
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out. “Rokujin! How’s it going at the training camp?” Garp and his aide Bogart approached the training camp. Seeing the two of them, all the Marines stood straight, saluting respectfully, “Vice Admiral Garp!” “Vice Admiral Garp!”
Garp nodded slightly at them and continued walking toward Rokujin. “Grandpa, you’re here!” Rokujin quickly approached, smiling. It had been a long time, and he missed him! After all, Garp was a relative of his in this world. “Hmm, you did well killing Kuro, but don’t get cocky!” “When you get to the advanced training camp, make sure to join Zephyr’s elite camp, or else you’re not my grandson,” Garp patted Rokujin on the shoulder, praising him.
“Understood, Grandpa,” Rokujin nodded. At the same time, a mission notification popped up from the system. Ding, congratulations, host. You have triggered a mission: Join the elite training camp under Zephyr. The system reward is +2 energy points and +1 Ryousoku Knife! If Garp hadn’t mentioned it, Rokujin would have joined the camp anyway. However, joining an elite training camp wasn’t that simple!
Garp slapped his forehead, suddenly remembering something. “That’s right, you’ve also learned ‘Soru’ now. I was planning to check if Luffy has learned it yet, but you should go instead; consider it a vacation! There were two reasons for sending Rokujin. One, he preferred to stay in his office and slack off. Rokujin was already a Marine, and he could influence Ace and Luffy to reconsider their paths.
“Sure, Grandpa, I was also thinking of returning to see Luffy,” Rokujin quickly agreed. Training at Marine Headquarters was genuinely exhausting and incredibly dull. A trip back to Foosha Village would be nice!
“Mm!” Garp nodded slightly, turning to Peter beside him to explain, “Rokujin is on leave. I’ll explain the situation to Fleet Admiral Sengoku.”
“Understood, Vice Admiral Garp!” Peter said.
Following that, Garp took Rokujin and left. Once they had departed, the rest of the camp immediately began whispering among themselves. “Rokujin’s grandfather is Vice Admiral Garp? The former Marine hero!”
“No wonder he’s so strong!”
“Yes! With such a strong background, yet he’s so humble usually!”
In everyday life, Rokujin never talks about his background with others or receives any special treatment. It was entirely his strength that earned the admiration of his fellow trainees!
