After visiting the “Fox Weapon Chain Store,” Eust felt a bit down and decided to engage in some healthy activity—fishing.
He managed to catch a rare fish, which he sold for 100,000 Beli. Eust couldn’t help but think if he could catch one such fish every day, he would accumulate a bounty equivalent to early-stage Luffy’s in a month.
Of course, he was being overly optimistic. Rare fish are called rare for a reason—they are scarce. In the vicinity of the island, there might not even be 30 fish of the same species. Catching 30 in a row was a daydream. Managing to catch one was sheer luck; catching more would be unrealistic.
After selling the rare fish, Eust bought some milk and other drinks, then returned to the shore to prepare his lunch.
Sunny’s ability to manage task space proved extremely useful. The 10 cubic meters of space were more than enough for Eust and Sunny’s needs.
For example, it contained a set of kitchen utensils, various basic seasonings, cooking oil, some flour, milk, other drinks, and two buckets of fresh water; most of their Beli, several sets of clothes, a few masks, some bandages, common medicines, and other miscellaneous items. The remaining space was reserved for future needs.
Sunny acknowledged Eust’s culinary skills. It now loved eating grilled fish with milk, calling it a true enjoyment.
To Eust, Sunny looked like it was enjoying itself whenever it ate, and it was very cute.
But Sunny didn’t like being called a foodie. It would get angry and launch a cat-paw attack, so Eust eventually stopped calling it that.
After lunch, Eust asked Sunny, “Sunny, can the task fruit only issue training and hunting missions?”
“Meow, it’s not like that. It’s just that my ability to develop the fruit is limited. These two types of tasks are the easiest to control. Choosing other tasks would be too random and could easily backfire on us, so I don’t mention them much. Meow!”
“Meow, and I’m currently developing the ability to boost training task rewards. Right now, training tasks yield the best results, but we can try other tasks occasionally. Still, I suggest focusing on training tasks. Meow!”
“Sunny, I understand. Training tasks not only enhance our strength through the training itself but also give additional rewards, making them the best choice early on. But doing the same task repeatedly can be mentally exhausting. How about we try a hunting mission next time?”
“Sunny, the first two tasks were beneficial. We might not encounter such luck again. Let’s try a hunting mission next time to see how it goes.”
“Meow, if Eust thinks so, we’ll issue a hunting task next time. A few different tasks won’t hurt. Meow!”
“Great, Sunny!” Eust exclaimed, picking up Sunny and spinning in a circle.
Sunny, however, remained indifferent.
After chatting for a while, Eust and Sunny resumed their training.
While Eust was swimming near the shore to strengthen his physique and improve his swimming skills, Sunny was bouncing around on the beach. Anyone who didn’t know better might think the cat had gone mad.
Suddenly, a bullet whizzed by, nearly hitting Eust’s arm. What was going on? Was someone trying to kill him? He hadn’t had any conflicts with anyone.
Eust quickly looked in the direction of the attack and saw two small boats in a chase. Each boat had two people—one rowing and one firing. The gunfire wasn’t intense, and their aim was poor. Neither side managed to hit the other effectively, and Eust almost got caught in the crossfire.
Seriously? Fighting and hitting an innocent bystander? The best plan was to retreat and avoid the trouble.
As for the “acquaintance” on the fleeing boat being pursued, well, it wasn’t Eust’s problem. That person had extorted him before. Bye-bye, it’s up to fate whether they live or die.
Eust grabbed Sunny and left the shore. The two boats also came ashore. Apparently, Jack and Carl realized that running on stable ground with their backs to the enemy was a bad idea. They chose to confront their pursuers, switching from long-range to close combat.
Eust watched closely as Jack fought another leader, paying only slight attention to Carl and the other rower’s fight.
Jack wielded a “domineering” sword against his opponent. The clash was intense, with weapons clanging constantly. Both sides were formidable, capable of taking on multiple Eusts.
As Eust watched Jack’s big sword, it looked increasingly familiar. He finally recognized it as one of the “domineering series” swords from the “Fox Weapon Chain Store.”
Impressive, Jack. Who knew you had such “grand” tastes, favoring these over-the-top weapons?
As Eust marveled, the battle raged on. The pursuer launched a “verbal attack”: “Jack, you traitor! When the Titan was in trouble, you attacked the young master and stole the treasures. You’ll die miserably.”
Jack didn’t hold back either, and his verbal attack was possibly stronger than his opponent’s: “Who isn’t selfish? Haven’t you thought about your future?”
“Ross, the young master is dead, the old man is elderly, and the lady only knows navigation, not business. With the Titan sunk, only the Nico remains. The Franklin convoy is finished.”
“Ross, stop the chase. Let’s split the treasure and live it up. Wouldn’t that be better?”
“Shut up, you ungrateful wretch. Have you forgotten who saved us? You killed our benefactor. You’re heartless.”
Jack’s verbal onslaught was relentless: “Ross, don’t pretend. After years together, I know you. You’re after the treasure too, aren’t you? Hahaha!”
“Shut up! I’ve never seen someone so shameless.” Ross was furious but lost his composure.
The next moment, Jack found an opening and struck Ross’s left shoulder, causing severe bleeding and leaving him at a disadvantage.
After a few more exchanges, Jack struck a fatal blow to Ross, who fell unwillingly. Before dying, he only managed to leave a shallow cut on Jack’s left arm.
Ross died with his eyes open, seemingly protesting the world’s unfairness—how the good suffer while the wicked thrive.
Meanwhile, Jack’s subordinate Carl also finished off his opponent and regrouped with Jack.
Eust realized he was in trouble. Absorbed in watching the fight, he hadn’t retreated. Now, Jack and Carl were approaching his hiding spot with ill intent.
Eust quickly assessed his situation. Judging by their performance, he was only on par with Carl and no match for Jack. They clearly didn’t intend to let him go.
It seemed he had to rely on Sunny’s transformation ability. Transformed Sunny should be on par with Jack. A small team leader in a convoy was this powerful? Damn, was his level too low?
Eust and Sunny exchanged a glance, both seeing the resolve in each other’s eyes. If the battle was inevitable, they wouldn’t shy away.
Eust and Sunny emerged from hiding, ready to fight.
But then, a shocking twist occurred. As Jack and Carl approached, they suddenly turned on each other.
In a surprising outcome, Jack once thought to be an “elite monster,” was stabbed through the chest, while Carl, the “normal monster,” only suffered a facial wound.
What was going on?
Eust and Sunny were dumbfounded.
Could Carl be the true hidden boss?
