Yesterday’s five sets of physical training had greatly drained Eust’s energy. This morning, he woke up with his entire body aching, clearly a sign of overtraining.
However, for the sake of the reward, to become stronger, and for the adventure, Eust had no intention of giving up.
Having arrived in the world of pirates, how could he become a strong person without enduring the hardships of training? Without firm resolve, becoming strong was impossible.
Today’s training schedule was better planned, drawing from the experience of the previous day, making it more reasonable.
The first set was relatively easy to complete. From the second set onward, it took Eust longer to finish each set of exercises.
After completing the second set, Eust planned to take a break before preparing lunch when Sunny informed him that a ship was passing by.
Eust couldn’t just lie there; he rushed to the shore and looked out, spotting a ship in the distance.
Judging by the flag, it was neither a pirate ship nor a Marine ship, but an unknown emblem. Sunny thought it was a merchant ship. Eust was a bit skeptical, but since there was a ship passing by, he had to call for help.
Eust shouted himself hoarse, but no one came over. The signal fire was also producing black smoke, but the ship gradually sailed away, never coming close to their island, and eventually disappeared from their sight.
Without expectations, there would be no disappointment. Eust lay on the shore, exhausted, until he recovered. Prompted by Sunny, he got up to prepare food.
After a hearty meal, Eust regained his fighting spirit and could calmly reflect. The fact that a ship passed by after just a few days suggested that this area might be on a shipping route.
Eust had drifted to this island because the merchant ship he was on had been sailing a route near the island.
With this deduction, Eust felt less worried. He explained this to Sunny, who seemed a bit embarrassed, realizing that as a strategist cat, he should have deduced this useful information first.
Since the passing ship had waved them goodbye without any response, life—and training—had to go on.
During the third set of training, Eust hoped that his optimistic deduction might improve his condition, but it didn’t. The fatigue remained, and mental relief couldn’t replace physical exhaustion.
Surprisingly, the seemingly straightforward physical training turned out to be quite strenuous for Eust. The further he progressed, the harder it became.
By the time Eust completed the five sets of physical training for the day, it was much later than the previous day, leaving him too tired to talk.
After finishing, Eust returned to his “nest” and fell asleep immediately, leaving the task reward for after he woke up.
Zzzzzz…
The next day, the fifth day of survival on the island, Eust woke up around noon, surprised at how late it was. Sunny hadn’t woken him, which was unusual.
The artistic holes in the shelter, which weren’t there yesterday, were likely Sunny’s doing. Eust got up and looked for Sunny, finding him sunbathing on the beach.
“Sunny, are you hungry? Should we go fishing together and make some delicious roast fish for you?”
“Meow, Eust, you say strange things. I felt sorry for your hard training and let you sleep. I’ve been hungry for a while now, hurry up and get moving. Don’t forget to wash the fruit, meow!”
“Alright, thanks, Sunny. I’ll wash up and then prepare food. I won’t let you go hungry.”
Eust headed to the stream, realizing he had forgotten to ask Sunny about the task reward.
Upon waking, he felt almost fully recovered, a stark contrast to the previous morning. This must have been the task reward’s effect, significantly boosting his recovery. He hadn’t expected it to be so noticeable.
He planned to ask Sunny about it during breakfast to see what Sunny thought. After all, Sunny was the “Task Assigning Cat,” so it was normal to ask him, even if it meant being called an idiot.
Eust prepared the ingredients and started cooking.
“Sunny, the task reward’s recovery boost really works. Yesterday, I was exhausted, but now I feel much better. Does this mean the recovery boost is really that effective?”
“Meow, of course. The recovery ability of an ordinary human without special training is quite low. This task’s ‘slight increase in comprehensive recovery’ effectively doubled your recovery rate. Even for me, the boost is significant, meow!”
“Oh, so a ‘slight increase in physical fitness’ really is just slight, but a ‘slight increase in recovery’ isn’t the same. What a strange standard.”
“Meow, that’s how it is, meow!”
“Sunny, can you cut down on the ‘meows’? Although your voice is lovely, it starts to sound strange after a while.”
“Meow, that’s impossible. I like it this way, meow, meow, meow!” Sunny retorted.
“Alright,” Eust replied helplessly.
They then talked about the merchant ship they saw yesterday. Eust realized a potential problem: what to do with the treasure chest if they were rescued.
Eust considered the treasure his property, but as a stranger rescued by a merchant ship, it was unlikely he could keep the treasure.
Eust’s combat strength was around 10 Douriki thanks to the task reward. Sunny, despite eating the Devil Fruit, had not gained much combat power either. They wouldn’t be able to fend off even ten opponents, hardly fitting for protagonists.
Bringing the treasure chest was like parading gold in a dangerous market. If encountered by ill-intentioned people, they might end up dead in the sea.
Hiding the treasure on the island wasn’t a good idea either, as they needed initial funds for food and lodging.
Eust jokingly asked Sunny if there was something like Doraemon’s “fourth-dimensional pocket,” earning another disdainful look from Sunny.
“Meow, I have two forms, danger-sensing abilities, luck attributes, and the convenience of the Task Fruit. What more do you want? An invincible fruit, meow?”
“Hey, Sunny, do you think there’s an invincible fruit in the pirate world? Should we look for it?”
Sunny turned away, refusing to respond to Eust.
