Commodore Adkin laughed heartily, “This shows that the top brass of the Navy holds you in high regard, and your reputation precedes you! It’s rare for someone like you, still stationed at a branch, to be recognized and praised by headquarters. When you head to the Marine Headquarters’ training camp, make sure not to disappoint them and show those from other branches and headquarters the brilliance of our G-2 branch!”
“The Marine Headquarters’ training camp… Has the approval come through?” Rougishuasked softly, his expression changing slightly.
“That’s right. Although you’re already a major, it’s best not to miss this opportunity. Only those who come out of that incubator of officers are considered true elites of the Navy.”
Commodore Adkin continued with a look of longing, “Moreover, besides being personally taught by Admiral Zephyr, the training camp also occasionally has Vice Admirals like Garp and Akainu giving guidance. Plus, the future of this vast ocean will be gathered there, allowing you to greatly expand your horizons, connections, and influence.”
“I understand. I will definitely go to this training camp!” Rougishunodded firmly.
“Hahaha! With your talent and effort, Longinus, I’m sure you’ll stand out even in that camp full of strong individuals!” Commodore Adkin said, satisfied.
“There are nine of you from this cohort who have been recommended. Besides you, there’s T. Penn, Gregory, Abel, Abrahama Michion, Algernon, Austin, Alva, and Andre. You should be familiar with them, so I won’t say much.”
Rougishunodded. He was familiar with them; they were his subordinates within the G-2 faction.
“The timeframe is set for one month from now. You nine will board a warship and head to Marineford. Of course, I won’t be too rigid; I’ll give you half a month to complete your current tasks and handle the handover. The last half month can be spent sightseeing. After all, once you start at headquarters, it might not be easy to return to the branch.”
“Half a month, huh…” Rougishumurmured, his eyes narrowing as he thought of some issues he needed to attend to.
“But for now, I need you to accompany me on a mission. A large-scale war has broken out on Saintin Island. The kings have reached a political agreement and don’t want the war to continue, but for safety, they want the Navy to act as an arbitrator to end the conflict.”
Commodore Adkin continued, “In short, this is a diplomatic mission to mediate and quell the conflict. You know I’m not good with these political affairs, so I’ll need you to handle this farce like you did before.”
Rougishusighed, “Is this really appropriate? I’m just a major…”
“Haha! Don’t worry, those kings are all savvy individuals. No one will think you’re unqualified. Besides, I’ll be there to support you; just treat me as a mascot.” Commodore Adkin showed no embarrassment and was accustomed to this arrangement over the past two years.
“Alright, if you put it that way, I guess I have no choice…”
“Hahaha! Those who are capable do more work!” Commodore Adkin clapped Rougishuon’s shoulder and was about to leave the room when he paused, “By the way, don’t you have a little girlfriend in the Kingdom of Heiska? This alliance meeting will be held there so that you can visit her. No need to thank me… hahaha!”
“Please, Tina is only 12 years old!” Rougishureplied helplessly as Commodore Adkin’s increasingly mischievous laughter faded away. It reminded him of the school environment from the memories of his otherworldly soul, where any frequent interaction between boys and girls would instantly spark rumors.
It seemed that gossip was universally popular, regardless of the world!
Rougishus shook his head slightly and left the office area. Suddenly, a fierce wind came from behind. Seeming unaffected by gravity, Rougishuleaned forward over 90° to avoid the attack, then sprang back up like a spring, shoulder-bumping the attacker and sending them flying dozens of meters away.
“For me, attacks from any direction are the same. Haven’t you learned by now, Abraham Michion?” Rougishudid didn’t need to turn around to know who had attacked him.
“Hehe! I thought you’d be distracted, considering you were deep in thought. But you sure don’t hold back with that shoulder bump; my chest still hurts!” Abraham Michion’s voice echoed, revealing it was one of the nine names mentioned by Commodore Adkin.
“You’re really stubborn. Even Andre’s sniper rifle doesn’t work on the boss; your little sneak attacks are useless!” Austin scoffed.
“Actually, even if I hit the boss, it wouldn’t matter. Unless I’m within thirty meters, my sniper bullets can’t penetrate his defense,” Andre said helplessly.
“Boss, be honest with me. You’re actually an ancient sea king who ate a Devil Fruit and became human, right?” Gregory said in an eerie voice.
“So, you all gathered here because you received the news?” Rougishuasked.
“Yeah, Longinus, everyone’s excited about heading to Marineford in a month!” Penn said.
“Half excited, half terrified!” Algernon rolled his eyes.
Gregory nodded, “We may have some talent, but in the grand scheme of the Navy, we’re just average. There are plenty of people stronger than us at headquarters, not to mention compared to a real monster like the boss.”
Abel continued, “Although we don’t have the same grand ambitions as you, boss, we don’t want to fade into obscurity either. We want to go further on this path and keep following your lead!”
“So, you mean…” Rougishusmiled slightly.
“We hope to undergo another hellish training session with you, boss!” The eight of them exchanged glances, then bowed together.
“Are you really determined? Don’t end up quitting halfway like last time. As I recall, only Penn managed to stick it out.” Rougishushowed a dangerous smile.
Gulp! Remembering their fear, they broke into a sweat but still said with trembling voices, “Please, train us!”
