Bella didn’t consider herself particularly special but finally understood her unique traits under Death’s scrutiny.
Her uniqueness was a composite of various factors.
What does Death despise the most? He detests those who should have died but did not. The survivors of the Flight 180 crash all fell within this category.
Bella was among the undying and prominent ones at that time.
Her lineage carried the undying traits of Will Turner and Hector Barbossa.
It’s unclear whether Barbossa’s affiliation with the Aztec gold curse or his daughter’s birth came first unless you ask him directly, as these details are now beyond confirmation.
However, when Pirate Queen Elizabeth Swann bore Henry Turner, Will Turner was the captain of the Flying Dutchman, his heart safely encased, securing his undying trait. Even after the Trident of Poseidon lifted all curses and magic, traces of undyingness continued to flow through the bloodline generation after generation.
The Turner and Swann families were notably long-lived for the first few generations. By modern times, the undying trait had faded, and they became as mortal as anyone else.
That’s when Bella arrived.
For the original Bella, her soul dissipated, but her body didn’t die, a form of undying in its own right. For the transmigrated soul, evading death was also a manifestation of undying.
Even the surname ‘Swann’ sounds eerily similar to ‘swan’, which in some languages is close to ‘death.’
With ancestral blessings, her own bizarre experiences, and her foreknowledge of death threats, which helped her save a third of the survivors, not to mention the sudden appearance of the vampire Edward during the truck incident, and now the trio of vampires chasing her pickup, all these factors combined gave her an undying attribute so potent it practically glowed in Death’s eyes!
From the truck incident to now, more than half a day had passed, and she had a strong hunch that Death was watching her incessantly.
This urgency was distressing; Death not pursuing the other survivors was a relief, but his constant vigilance over her was too much to bear; fortunately, she now faced three evil vampires.
Jacob had modified the pickup, but it hadn’t reached its speed limit yet. Bella wanted to test some theories in her mind, even deliberately slowing down during the vampire chase.
Before the female vampire could warn him, the black vampire was already close enough to reach out and grab the pickup.
Hearing his companion’s cry, he quickly looked left.
A gust of wind blew, and a roadside billboard suddenly fell, its steel cables whipping from left to right with a fierce whoosh, targeting the dreadlocked black vampire’s head and the pickup ahead.
What kind of power was this? The black vampire was baffled, without time to ponder. Relying on his superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes, he dodged slightly and grabbed the steel cable.
After a careful feel, there was nothing unusual—no energy flames, curses, targeted spells, nothing at all, just like grabbing a regular broken steel cable by the roadside.
This delay allowed Bella’s pickup to move another three hundred meters forward.
“Is this your power? Child’s play!” the black vampire scoffed, convinced he had seen through Bella’s tricks, tossed the steel cable aside, and growled menacingly.
Bella almost laughed out loud at this scene. Keeping a straight face, she leaned out the window and shouted, “You’re all doomed!”
“You dare to chase? Chase any further, and I’ll unleash all my energy!”
“I am a disciple of Thanos, you filthy bugs. To chase me is to desecrate my master!”
Her insincere warning was taken as a joke, and the three vampires continued their furious pursuit.
The black vampire with dreadlocks laughed wildly: “You talk of death to a vampire? Tell your Thanos to kiss my ass! Hahaha—”
They then truly understood Bella’s capabilities; this woman always managed to use unexpected coincidences to create deadly situations.
Fortunately, they were vampires with superior physical qualities and regenerative abilities; an average human couldn’t have withstood it.
A steel cable struck the black vampire, and then an explosion from a mower on a distant farm sent shrapnel flying at him.
The white vampire James nimbly avoided a sinkhole and a large tree slamming down in a sequential attack.
The female vampire Victoria was less fortunate, getting hit by a malfunctioning transformer at the roadside. A massive electrical arc struck her. Any average person would have been charred by now, and even for a vampire, it was overwhelming, leaving her incapacitated for a solid three minutes before she shakily stood up.
It was no longer just for fun or a game. Having been toyed with by Bella, they were filled with immense anger.
Their anger, repeatedly obstructed, made Thanos furious as well!
“See my power now? Ants! I was holding back before; chase me again, and I’ll kill you all!” Bella mocked the three enthusiastic vampires who came to unwittingly share her burdens, her spit flying far with sheer spite.
She had a vague hunch. Because of the vampires’ involvement, Thanos shifted some of his attention onto these three brutes, and her sense of impending doom weakened.
Why stop now? She thought to keep dragging these three along, perhaps gradually draining Thanos’s energy.
The vampires weren’t fools, either. They sensed something was off; the closer they got to Bella’s pickup, the more misfortune befell them, so they deliberately slowed down.
But Thanos noticed them, too, hurling various deadly accidents at them from a distance.
“This power is so bizarre! Are we really?” the dreadlocked black vampire was scared; he was a bully at heart, fearing the strong, unrelated to his vampiric nature.
Victoria, the female vampire, disagreed: “No! I want to chop off that bitch’s pretty fingers one by one, carve out her heart, and smear her brains on the wall!”
She had been badly shocked, and with her fierce nature, she certainly wasn’t going to give up.
One advocated retreat, while the other wanted to continue the chase.
The final decision fell to James, the white vampire.
He was the most bloodthirsty and cruel of the trio.
Licking his lips, his slender eyes gleaming with crimson light, he said, “What interesting prey. Even if you disagree, I’ll continue the chase. I’m bored to death.”
